Silesian as an adjective can mean anything from or related to Silesia. As a noun, it refers to an article, item, or person of or from Silesia. Silesian may also refer to:
Silesian or Upper Silesian (Silesian: ślōnskŏ gŏdka, ślůnsko godka, Czech:Slezština, Polish:język śląski / etnolekt śląski) is a West Slaviclect, related to Polish and Czech. Its vocabulary has been significantly influenced by Central German due to the existence of numerous Silesian German speakers in the area prior to World War II and after, until the 1990s.
There is no consensus on whether Silesian is a separate language or a somewhat divergent dialect of Polish.
Distribution
Silesian speakers currently live in the region of Upper Silesia, which is split between southwestern Poland and the northeastern Czech Republic. At present Silesian is commonly spoken in the area between the historical border of Silesia on the east and a line from Syców to Prudnik on the west as well as in the Rawicz area. Until 1945 Silesian was also spoken in enclaves in Lower Silesia.
Lower Silesian, a variety of Central German, was spoken by the ethnic German majority population of that region until their mass deportation to Germany after World War II.

Poland: Dispute over Silesian Minority | European Journal
An old debate is stirred again as Silesians question their national heritage. Rightwing conservatives in Poland feel national unity is threatened, minorities feel discriminated against. The dispute was unleashed by the former prime minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski. The nationalist politician said those who chose to describe themselves as 'Silesian' in the recent census were selecting a 'disguised option for Germany'. While most Silesians would never consider breaking away from Poland, they say they don't want to be treated as second-class citizens.

Polabian
Native to: Poland, Germany
Extinct: 18th century
Language family: Indo-European (Slavic)
The Polabian language is an extinct West Slavic language that was spoken by the Polabian Slavs (German: Wenden) in present-day northeastern Germany around the Elbe (Łaba/Laba/Labe in Slavic) river, from which derives its name (po Labe - [traveling] on Elbe or [living] up to Elbe). It was spoken approximately until the rise to power of Prussia in mid-18th century, when it was superseded by Low German.
By the 18th century, Lechitic Polabian was in some respects markedly different from other Slavic languages, most notably in having a strong German influence. It was close to Pomeranian and Kashubian, and is attested only in a handful of manuscripts, dictionaries and various writings from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The nationalist politician said those who chose to describe themselves as 'Silesian' in the recent census were selecting a 'disguised option for Germany'. While most Silesians would never consider breaking away from Poland, they say they don't want to be treated as second-class citizens.

This video was recorded in Czerwionka-Leszczyny, Poland and features Silesian speaker Piotr Usiek. Silesian was spoken by 60,000 people as of a 2002 census, but its international native speaking population was far larger at around 500,000 speakers. Silesian is a West Slavic language within the Indo-European langauge family. Silesian has been greatly influenced by Central German given the historically large number of Silesian Germans living in the region, primarily southern Poland and eastern Czech Reoublic. The German speaking population in Sliesia was either evacuated by the German government at the end of World War II, or deported when Poland annexed Silesia. Unfortunately, the status of Silesian and its various dialects as constituting a language entirely separate from Polish or Czech has been intensely politicized, due to the tug-of-war over Silesian land by the Poles, Czechs, and Germans during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Ever since Katowice took part in the competition for the European Capital of Culture, the Silesian region became more popular and there was a tendency to abandon stereotypes associated with Silesia as an industrial location. We asked the Silesians on what they think about their small homeland.

Silesian as an adjective can mean anything from or related to Silesia. As a noun, it refers to an article, item, or person of or from Silesia. Silesian may also refer to:
