Shredding (tree-pruning technique)
Shredding is a traditional European method of tree pruning by which all side branches are removed repeatedly leaving the main trunk and top growth. In the Middle Ages the practice was common throughout Europe, but it is now rare, found mainly in central and Eastern Europe.
The purpose of shredding is to allow harvest of firewood and animal fodder while preserving a tall main trunk which may be harvested for timber at a later date.
It was formerly practiced in Britain although Oliver Rackham notes that "The medieval practice of shredding – cropping the side-branches of a tree leaving a tuft at the top – vanished from Britain long ago. Only at Haresfield (Gloucestershire) have I seen a few ancient ashes that may once have been shredded".Another name for cutting side branches off trees, used ...

Don't be a Hack | How to prune a tree | arborist tips & tricks
A quick primer on making good cuts and deciding which branches to prune. Remember, a proper pruning is highly dependent on the species, and while these tips will generally apply to most trees, be sure to do your research before attempting any major pruning.
Edit: I said “Deciduous” evergreen, but meant “broadleaf” evergreen. “Deciduous” means it loses its leaves annually which these trees Do NOT they are evergreen, meaning they keep the majority of their leaves all year, photosynthesizing all winter. How to trim a tall tree branch in 20 minutes for only $7 without climbing or a ladder (DIY)
Need to trim dead wood out of a tree in your yard? Worried about getting up on a tall ladder, or trying to climb with cutting equipment? Here I explain step-by-step how I trimmed a 30-foot-high branch in just 20 minutes, without getting up into the tree or operating a gas or electric chainsaw. It only cost me about $7.
DON'T BE UNSAFE. IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE OR UNSURE ABOUT HOW TO SAFELY TRIM TREE BRANCHES, HIRE A PROFESSIONAL.
The chainsaw I used in the video is a 24-inch saw, which I bought for $7 on Amazon. UPDATE: the saw I used in the video is no longer available, but here is another one just like it: https://amzn.to/2JCxvpc
There's nothing special about the rope I used - just make sure it's more than twice as long as the height of your branch. The rope in the video I bought at H...

Olive trees pruning and shredding.
Olive branches, from pruning, being shredded, instead of being burnt.
That way, emissions are less, shredding takes only 1/3 of the time compared to burning them. Further more the shredded wood can be used as fertilizer.

Cheaters Undercut: a specialty cut (FOR REMOVALS ONLY)
THIS CUT IS FOR REMOVAL ONLY.. DO NOT USE IT FOR PRUNING
I use this cut for maximum efficiency when taking out heavy horizontal and near horizontal limbs. The "Cheater's undercut" allows a climber or bucket operator to remove a large limb in one smooth action, without the need to reposition the saw, and offers the additional benefit of preventing saw snatch and keeping the limb from splitting which could pinch the bar.
This is one of many specialty cuts I developed over the years and part of a system I use from the bucket which will be introduced in new videos coming soon.
You won't find this cut in a book or learn it from any training organization. This video gives a thorough explanation of the technique and when, why and how it it used. It looks simple once you understand it and is cer...

Shredding and root cutting
In this video you will see a few activities we did.
Unfortunaly i was unable to capture the shredding with the brush sweeper, but that's due to the amount of work we have to do and filming stuff comes in the 2nd place there :(.
The International 633SA is a tractor we use alot for all kinds of activities and it's bought new at the end of the 1970's or begin 1980's (no one seems to know exactly). when driving home last time we used it i got a flat tire, and the tires were already cracked for a few years so it's time to put new tires on.
Because we don't want our sprayer to get damaged, and the trees still have branches from winter pruning hanging in the trees we decided to first shred a round without the brush sweeper so we were able to start spraying.

The rope in the video I bought at Home Depot, but Amazon also sells rope: https://amzn.to/2Jv7fON
UPDATE: If you don't want to throw a hammer into the air, I recommend a throw weight, like this one: https://amzn.to/2AaxF6i

It looks simple once you understand it and is certain to become a potent weapon in the arsenal of any production climber or bucket operator.

We also had to do alot of root cutting to prevent our trees from growing too much. The root cutting beam is newly painted as you will see in an upcoming video. and we broke the cutting knife at a ground anchor so i had to weld a new horizontal knife on there which ensures that the knife will go down into the ground.

We also had to do alot of root cutting to prevent our trees from growing too much. The root cutting beam is newly painted as you will see in an upcoming video. and we broke the cutting knife at a ground anchor so i had to weld a new horizontal knife on there which ensures that the knife will go down into the ground.
