Sheung Shui Station is the penultimate northbound station on the East RailLine in Hong Kong. This station serves as the terminus of northbound trains after the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau boundary crossings have closed. Passengers wishing not to enter the Boundary Area illegally by proceeding to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau without a Closed Area Permit, valid passport and visa, or without the intention of crossing over to Shenzhen must disembark here.
Markers are provided on the northbound platform following the opening of Lok Ma Chau station. Two queues, blue and green, are set up at the boarding areas. The blue queues are for passengers travelling to Lo Wu, while the green queues are for those travelling to Lok Ma Chau. Platform 1 is the termination platform of northbound trains after Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau boundary crossings have closed, and so platform 2 (southbound platform) is the only platform for boarding.
Shek Wu Hui (石湖墟) used to be the marketplace of the Sheung Shui area, before the development of Sheung Shui Town. Bounded by Lung Sum Avenue (龍琛路), San Fung Avenue and Jockey Club Road, it was the main market in the Sheung Shui area from the 1930s onwards. Today some private residences can be found towering over the old flats in the hui (market). The majority of the buildings still standing were repaired in the 1950s.
The Fung Kai No.1 Secondary School (鳳溪第一中學), located near Sheung Shui Wai and originally established by the Liu clan, is the largest secondary school in Hong Kong, in terms of area covered. More than one turfed football pitch can be found inside the school campus. Because of its green and ample campus, the school used to serve as a scene for local educational television programs.
In the early hours from Wednesday to Friday, after the East Rail Line ceases service, a special KMB bus service, RouteN73, will run at Sheung Shui Station to carry passengers to the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-border shuttle bus interchange.
