International Women's Day
Friday 8th March is International Women’s Day. We have been celebrating this at school by holding up the women we have in our lives who inspire us. We should also consider celebrating the work of women both in our own organisation at Sexey’s and in our families and friendship groups and consider how we as people of all genders and/or none can continue to celebrate and support the work, the rights and the wellbeing of the wonderful women in our lives.
Sexey’s school right from the top down our own female leaders across all teams are amazing examples of strong, capable and successful women. The young people and staff in our school are lucky to have some amazing female role models who also offer amazing nurturing ‘mothering’ skills too which we can also celebrate on Sunday.

‘Mothering’ in our current society does not always feel valued (certainly in our current socio-political climate it is not financially easy to be either a stay at home or a working mother. The struggle is real for many women and a thousand judgements and compromises happen for women at every turn). Women take time out of the workplace to have children and the skills we learn as mothers although often transferrable are not always valued by employers and the return to work, perhaps part time, can either obviously or more likely more subtly bar women from or delay promotions or prospects that are more freely available to men. Sometimes this comes from the workplace or it comes from within, with some women potentially feeling less confident to assert their rights or even less clear about how they will potentially be perceived for doing so. This is why days like International women’s Day are vital in raising that for women. Thank you to Mrs Guest for these words of wisdom ✨
