Lying in the upper Dulais Valley – in which coalmine workings are still very evident (the village is named after Seven Sisters Colliery which closed in the early 1960s) – the area is characterized by extensive forestry to the north, east and south, and open moorland in the northwest and central areas.
Prior to the oil crisis of 1973, the members of the Seven Sisters controlled around 85 percent of the world's petroleum reserves, but in recent decades the dominance of the companies and their successors has declined as a result of the increasing influence of the OPEC cartel and state-owned oil companies in emerging-market economies.
Composition and history
In 1951 Iran nationalized its oil industry, then controlled by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP), and Iranian oil was subjected to an international embargo. In an effort to bring Iranian oil production back to international markets, the U.S. State Department suggested the creation of a "Consortium" of major oil companies. The "Consortium for Iran" was subsequently formed by the following companies:
The seven sisters of the Hollywood film industry were the major movie studios of the period between the early 1980s, when The Walt Disney Studios emerged as a major, and 2005, when MGM was acquired by a consortium including Sony Pictures Entertainment. The seven sisters were:

Chinese solar power companies have a bigger share of global energy than our Seven Sisters of Oil
A major geopolitical and economic shift may be underway, as Chinese companies now have a dominant share of global energy output.
The Industrial Revolution was powered by coal, and economic success was enjoyed by the giant coal producing countries of England, Germany, and the United States. The 20th century saw the rise of crude oil that powered transportation and logistics, and the US furthered their lead while oil-producing countries rose in prominence.
China is building a renewables energy colossus, and already its top seven solar panel and power equipment producers comprise a larger share of global energy output that the Seven Sisters companies did in the previous century. If history repeats, and the balance of power shifts again to the country and regions that produce abundant, che...

the early 1950’s, revelations surfaced that the oil companies would
pump the oil from the Middle East, then split the profits with the
government of the country where the oil was produced. OPEC was
formed to make people believe that the Arabian oil reserves were not
owned by non-Arabian oil companies.
Those non-Arabian oil companies are another cartel, which had been informally called “The Seven Sisters,” and control what is shipped to
the United States, and how much is refined into gas and heating oil.
Originally, it was made up of the Rockefeller-controlled Exxon
(previously known as Standard Oil of New Jersey, or Esso), Mobil
(Socony or Standard Oil of New York, which merged with Vacuum Oil),
and Chevron (Socal or Standard Oil of California); the Mellon’s Gulf
Oil; Shell (Royal Dutch Petroleum), Texaco, and British Petroleum
(Anglo-Iranian). They controlled 90% of crude exports to world markets
by controlling every important pipeline in the world, such as the 753-
mile TransArabian Pipeline, from Qaisuma in Saudi Arabia to the
Mediterranean Sea, which was owned by Exxon, Chevron, Texaco, and
Mobil. Exxon owned the 100-mile Interprovincial Pipeline in Canada;
and also the 143-mile pipeline in Venezuela. The 799-mile Alaskan
Pipeline was owned by British Petroleum and Exxon. By controlling
these, and other vital arteries, they can restrict the flow of oil, limiting
supplies to refineries.

=======
"Seven Sisters" was a common term for the seven transnational oil companies of the "Consortium for Iran" oligopoly or cartel, which dominated the global petroleum industry from the mid-1940s to the mid-1970s. Alluding to the seven mythological Pleiades sisters fathered by the titan Atlas, the business usage was popularized in the 1950s by businessman Enrico Mattei, then-head of the Italian state oil company Eni. The industry group consisted of:
Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP)
Gulf Oil (later part of Chevron)
Royal Dutch Shell
Standard Oil Company of California (SoCal, now Chevron)
Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (Esso, later Exxon, now part of ExxonMobil)
Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony, later Mobil, also now part of ExxonMobil)
Texaco (later merged into Chevron)Preceding the 1973 oil crisis, the Seven Sisters controlled around 85 percent of the world's petroleum reserves. Since then, industry dominance has shifted to the OPEC cartel and state-owned oil and gas companies in emerging-market economies, such as Saudi Aramco, Gazprom (Russia), China National Petroleum Corporation, National Iranian Oil Company, PDVSA (Venezuela), Petrobras (Brazil), and Petronas (Malaysia). In 2007, the Financial Times called these "the new Seven Sisters".According to consulting firm PFC Energy, by 2012 only 7% of the world's known oil reserves were in countries that allowed private international companies free rein. Fully 65% were in the hands of state-owned companies.

"Seven Sisters" was a term coined in the 1950s by businessman Enrico Mattei, then-head of the Italian state oil company Eni, to describe the seven oil companies which formed the "Consortium for Iran" cartel and dominated the global petroleum industry from the mid-1940s to the 1970s. The group comprised Anglo-Persian Oil Company; Gulf Oil, Standard Oil of California, Texaco; Royal Dutch Shell; Standard Oil of New Jersey and Standard Oil Company of New York.

One oil cartel is the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries,
known as OPEC, which is made up of Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, Kuwait,
Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Indonesia, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, and the United
Arab Emirates. The group was created on September 14, 1960, for the
purpose of setting oil prices by controlling oil production. They were
originally thought to be primarily Arabian, in ownership, however, it is
actually an international group, which includes Americans. The cartel
was established from an agreement signed on September 17, 1920, by
Royal Dutch Shell, Anglo-Iranian, and Standard Oil, for the purpose of
fixing oil prices. By 1949, the cartel was made up of Anglo-Iranian,
Socony-Vacuum, Royal Dutch Shell, Gulf, Esso, Texaco, and Calso. In
the early 1950’s, revelations surfaced that the oil companies would
pump the oil from the Middle East, then split the profits with the
government of the country where the oil was produced. OPEC was
formed to make people believe that the Arabian oil reserves were not
owned by non-Arabian oil companies.
They controlled 90% of crude exports to world markets
by controlling every important pipeline in the world, such as the 753-
mile TransArabian Pipeline, from Qaisuma in Saudi Arabia to the
Mediterranean Sea, which was owned by Exxon, Chevron, Texaco, and
Mobil. Exxon owned the 100-mile Interprovincial Pipeline in Canada;
and also the 143-mile pipeline in Venezuela. The 799-mile Alaskan
Pipeline was owned by British Petroleum and Exxon. By controlling
these, and other vital arteries, they can restrict the flow of oil, limiting
supplies to refineries.

If history repeats, and the balance of power shifts again to the country and regions that produce abundant, cheap power at scale for their consumers and factory sectors, it may be impossible to catch China.

SUMMARY
=======
The last part of a special four-part series that reveals how a secret pact formed a cartel that controls the world's oil.

Lying in the upper Dulais Valley – in which coalmine workings are still very evident (the village is named after Seven Sisters Colliery which closed in the early 1960s) – the area is characterized by extensive forestry to the north, east and south, and open moorland in the northwest and central areas.
