Neil Mullane FinnOBE (born 27 May 1958) is a New Zealand singer/songwriter and musician. Along with his brother Tim Finn, he was the co-frontman for Split Enz, a project that he joined after it was initially founded by Tim Finn and others, and is now frontman for Crowded House. He has also recorded several successful solo albums and assembled diverse musicians for the 7 Worlds Collide project; contributor Ed O'Brien, also guitarist for Radiohead, has hailed Finn as popular music's "most prolific writer of great songs".
Finn rose to prominence in the late 1970s with Split Enz and wrote the successful songs "One Step Ahead", "History Never Repeats", "I Got You" and "Message to My Girl", among others. Finn rose from prominence to international fame after Split Enz broke up in 1984. While his brother Tim Finn left for England, Neil was the founder of Crowded House with Split Enz's final drummer Paul Hester in 1985. The group achieved international success in 1987 when they released the single "Don't Dream It's Over", written by Neil Finn.
Neil Finn (born 29 December 1978, in Rainham, Essex) is a former professional footballer. He played one game for West Ham United in the Premier League during the 1995-96 season, aged 17, becoming at that time the youngest player to ever to appear in a Premiership match.
Career
Finn was a product of the West Ham youth academy, and began his professional career as a trainee in August 1995. After just three reserve games, he became the then youngest player to ever to appear in a Premiership match on New Year's Day 1996 against Manchester City, when first-choice goalkeeper Luděk Mikloško was suspended and Les Sealey was injured. He won a runners-up medal in the 1996 FA Youth Cup final with Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand. He was offered a new contract in July 1997, but joined Dorchester Town on loan in March 1998 and was released by West Ham two months later. After a period out of the game, he joined non-league side Romford in 2004.
Sessions at West 54th is a solo live album released in 2000 by New Zealand singer-songwriter, Neil Finn as part of the US live musical television series Sessions at West 54th. The album was recorded in 1999 and features mostly songs from Finn's debut solo album Try Whistling This, however also included two songs ("Fall at Your Feet" and "Don't Dream It's Over") from his group Crowded House and one ("I Got You") from his earlier group Split Enz. The concert was dually released as a DVD as well as an audio album.
The album was released on DVD on the same day as the CD. The DVD release features sthandard 2.0 stereo audio as well as enhanced 5.1 surround sound audio, features standard fullscreen 1.33:1 display and was released only in the US in Region 1.
Sessions at West 54th was an Americantelevision program that featured music performances, and was in some ways a pop music variation on the theme set by the long-lived Austin City Limits, though the featured musicians represented a number of musical genres. It was called Sessions at West 54th because it was taped at Sony Music Studios on West 54th Street in Manhattan. Jeb Brien and Niki Vettel, APS senior v.p. for program development, developed the series after working on APS concert specials with Suzanne Vega and Ottmar Liebert. It was produced for public television syndicator American Program Service (APS) (now American Public Television, Boston) and was carried on many public television stations. It first aired in most places on July 5, 1997, when it was included in the Saturday late-night lineup of stations covering 85% of the country. After the program ended, an edited for commercial television version also aired on the commercialTriocable television network.
