When Louis the Pious subdued Aquitaine and took it from his rebellious grandson Pepin II in 839, he began partitioning it into counties for those loyal to him. Seguin was one of the new counts. It was probably the emperor's intention to install a duke with local connections to offset the power of Sancho Sánchez, the local factional leader who opposed both Pepin and then Louis.
Seguin continued to support Louis until his death and then his successor in the west, Charles the Bald, but his fidelity to the latter wavered and he went over to the side of Pepin. He was rewarded with the title of dux Wasconum—Duke of Gascony—which probably referred to the Frankishmarch against the Gascons of Sancho. In Autumn 845, Seguin marched on the Vikings assaulting Bordeaux and Saintes but was captured and put to death.
Gascony (/ˈɡæskəni/; French:Gascogne[ɡaskɔɲ]; Gascon: Gasconha[ɡasˈkuɲɔ]) is an area of southwest France that was part of the "Province of Guyenne and Gascony" prior to the French Revolution. The region is vaguely defined, and the distinction between Guyenne and Gascony is unclear; by some they are seen to overlap, while others consider Gascony a part of Guyenne. Most definitions put Gascony east and south of Bordeaux.
Gascony was historically inhabited by Basque-related people who appear to have spoken a language similar to Basque. The name Gascony comes from the same root as the word Basque (see Wasconia below). From medieval times until today, the Gascon language has been spoken, although it is classified as a regional variant of the Occitan language.

is a dialect of Occitan, considered by some linguists to be a separate language.
It is mostly spoken in Gascony and Béarn in southwestern France (in parts of the following French départements: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Landes, Gers, Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, and Ariège) and in the Aran Valley of Catalonia.
Aranese, a southern Gascon variety, is spoken in Catalonia and has been greatly influenced recently by Catalan and Spanish. Both these influences tend to differentiate it more and more from the dialects of Gascon spoken in France. Since the 2006 adoption of the new statute of Catalonia, Aranese is co-official with Catalan and Spanish in Catalonia (before, this status was valid for the Aran Valley only).
The majority of scholars think that Occitan constitutes a single language.
Some authors reject this opinion and even the name Occitan, thinking that there is a family of distinct lengas d'òc rather than dialects of a single language. Gascon, in particular, is distinct enough linguistically that it has been described as a language of its own.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect to be featured here. Submit your recordings to [email protected]. Looking forward to hearing from you!

00:00 The charolais in Burgundy is famous for its beef breed, but being a part of Burgundy it is full of traditional French specialities, like the Charolais cattle, that are well-known for their flavor and tender texture.
03:15 When travelling through the Normandy, don't forget to taste camembert. Dairy products are such an integral part of the region that even the towns carry the names of famous cheeses. In the Pays d’Auge, apples grow in abundance and are used to make delicacies like sparkling apple wine, cider, and calvados.
06:48 The market of Peyrehorade in Gascony is popular for its pig’s trotters, already available for breakfast at 7 am. Here in the southwest of France every village has its bullfighting arena, a place where acrobatic and non-violent performances with cows are celebrated, known as "Course Landaise".

Gascony
Gascony (/ˈɡæskəni/; French: Gascogne [ɡaskɔɲ]; Gascon: Gasconha [ɡasˈkuɲɔ]) is an area of southwest France that was part of the "Province of Guyenne and Gascony" prior to the French Revolution. The region is vaguely defined, and the distinction between Guyenne and Gascony is unclear; by some they are seen to overlap, while others consider Gascony a part of Guyenne.

Gascon
Native to: France, Spain
Region: Gascony
Language family: Indo-European (Romance)
Special Thanks to Puta de mòrt
is a dialect of Occitan, considered by some linguists to be a separate language.

The other specility of the region is the beef. Not only eaten, the cows are used for the acrobatic and non-violent shows, called "Danse Landaise". These take place in every bullfighting arena of every village. Annie's daughter, Caroline Larbère practices this dance.
What's cookin' is about traditional culinary recipes from different European regions.
