Robbie Basho (August 31, 1940 – February 28, 1986) was an American composer, guitarist and pianist, and a proponent of the acoustic steel string guitar in America.
Basho was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was orphaned as an infant. Adopted by the Robinson family, Daniel Robinson, Jr. attended Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and went on to study at University of Maryland College Park. Although he played the euphonium in the high school band and sang in middle school and high school ensembles, his interest in acoustic guitar grew during his college years, as a direct result of his friendships with fellow students John Fahey, Ed Denson, and Max Ochs. In 1959, Basho purchased his first guitar and immersed himself in Asian art and culture. It was around this time that he changed his name to Basho, in honor of the Japanese Poet, Matsuo Basho.
Basho's vision was to see the steel string as a concert instrument and to create a raga system for America. During a radio interview in 1974, promoting his album Zarthus, Basho discussed his music in detail. He described how he had gone through a number of "periods" related to philosophy and music, including Japanese, Hindu, Iranian and Native American. Zarthus represented the culmination of his "Persian period". Basho asserted his wish, along with John Fahey and Leo Kottke, to raise the steel-string guitar to the level of a concert instrument. He acknowledged that the nylon-string guitar was suitable for "love songs", but its steel counterpart could communicate "fire".
The Blue is a market place in Bermondsey, London.
The Blue may also refer to:
The Blue is a central market place in Bermondsey an area in London. The market is open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm and has about 10 stall holders, selling food and clothes. The area has been known as The Blue for more than two hundred and thirty years and is probably named after the original Blue Anchor public house that gave its name to Blue Anchor Lane. The market has capacity for 24 stalls.
Immediately north of Blue Anchor Lane on an arched viaduct are the multiple railway tracks of the Brighton and South East Main Lines. The Blue Anchor Lane joins St. James's Road where the viaduct arches to the immediate north west contain the remnants of the disused Spa Road railway station which was the original terminus of London's first railway.
In 2005 a Metropolitan Police report described the area as a crime hotspot for "race crime and youth disorder". In 2009 during the funeral procession of Jade Goody a white dove was released at The Blue, where her family once had a stall.
The Blue is the seventh studio album by the Italian progressive doom/gothic metal band Novembre.
Sea of Tranquility described the album as a continuation of the sound experiment on Materia with the addition of a heavier approach, especially in the vocal department.
From the "Visions of the Country" album (1978). More amazing singing from Basho.
First ever footage of Robbie Basho surfaced last week. This is from a TV show called "Scan" that was on KQED in 1971. The folks responsible for finding and presenting this footage are; David Greenberger, Glenn Jones, and "Tessaract3" from robbiebasho.com
Unreleased song by the master of American primitivism, taken from a collection of pieces entitled 'Indian II'. This was probably the title given to the album by Vanguard as opposed to the title given to it by Basho himself.

Unforgettable song, the way he plays the piano is out of this world, Basho himself was born an orphan... Off of "Visions of the Country" one of the finest albums I've ever heard.
Notes from Robbie Basho : Once upon a time it seemed to me that all the good things that came to me were dressed in the Zodiacal sign of CANCER. Then I found out that my "VENUS" was in CANCER. And then I discovered a great song on a very CANCER - Like summerlike day in the company of a lovely VENUS, also CANCER. And so the birth of a Musical Realm called VENUS IN CANCER. A noise was heard by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in 1997 and it bewildered researchers for years. The sound was heard in a very remote portion of the Pacific ocean near the southern tip of South America and was detected by several hydrophone arrays. Hydrophones are essentially underwater microphones and the NOAA had several series of them set up autonomously to capture mysterious sounds just like this. The first autonomous array was used in the cold war to detect Soviet submarines. Usually, researchers would use the sounds recorded to learn about seismic activity and marine animals, but the mysterious bloop was something different. The NOAA described the noise as rising rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard ...
