Steven Paul "Elliott" Smith (August 6, 1969 – October 21, 2003) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Smith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised primarily in Texas, and lived for much of his life in Portland, Oregon, where he first gained popularity. Smith's primary instrument was the guitar, though he was also proficient with piano, clarinet, bass guitar, drums, and harmonica. Smith had a distinctive vocal style, characterized by his "whispery, spiderweb-thin delivery", and used multi-tracking to create vocal layers, textures, and harmonies.
After playing in the rock band Heatmiser for several years, Smith began his solo career in 1994, with releases on the independent record labels Cavity Search and Kill Rock Stars (KRS). In 1997, he signed a contract with DreamWorks Records, for which he recorded two albums. Smith rose to mainstream prominence when his song "Miss Misery"—included in the soundtrack for the film Good Will Hunting (1997)—was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Song category in 1998.
Elliott Smith is a book about the musician Elliott Smith that was compiled by photographer Autumn de Wilde. The foreword was written by Beck and Chris Walla. The book was released in November 2007.
Those interviewed for the book include:
A five-song CD featuring previously unreleased live recordings of Smith performing acoustically at Club Largo in Los Angeles on 1998-04-11 is included with the book. The track listing is as follows:
Elliott Smith (1969–2003) was an American singer-songwriter and musician.

"Say Yes" is the final track of Elliott Smith's 1997 album Either/Or, and one of three tracks from Either/Or that was used in the soundtrack of Good Will Hunting.
"Say Yes" is one of Smith's widely recognized songs. It is considered happy and optimistic in both instrumentation and lyrics in comparison to the dark tone in most of his other songs. In an interview, Smith said that the song was written about "someone particular, and I almost never do that. I was really in love with someone."
Smith performed the song often, even during full band shows, in which he would play the song solo on an acoustic guitar.
"Say Yes" has been used in a wide variety of movies, including Hurricane Streets and American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, as well as being covered by Death Cab for Cutie and live by Ben Folds. It was also covered in an episode of One Tree Hill, when Bryan Greenberg sings to his daughter Jenny.
Say Yes may refer to:
Say Yes (Hangul: 세이 예스; RR: Saei Yaeseu) is a 2001 South Korean film.
Young married couple Yoon-hee and Jung-hyun go on a road trip, and along the way they pick up a lone drifter, Em. Em turns out to be a violent and sadistic psychopath who terrorises the couple at every turn. After capturing Jung-hyun, Em gives him a choice: submit to torture or allow Em to kill Yoon-hee.
Say Yes was released in South Korea on 17 August 2001, and received a total of 55,200 admissions in Seoul.
"Say Yes" is a song by performed by Floetry, issued as the second single from their debut studio album Floetic. It was written by lead singer Marsha Ambrosius along with Andre Harris, and was produced by Harris. The song was the group's only single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #24 in 2003.
In 2004, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, but lost to "My Boo" by Usher and Alicia Keys.
The official music video for the song was directed by Jeremy Rall.
