The Santa Fe River is a 75-mile (121km)river in northern Florida. The watershed of the river is approximately 1,380 square miles (3,574km2) and spreads across southern Columbia, southern Suwannee, western Bradford, far southern Baker, Union, northern and eastern Gilchrist, and northern Alachua counties. The headwaters of the river are Lake Santa Fe, near Keystone Heights. The Santa Fe River is usually a slow-flowing river. This slow speed, combined with the abundant leaf-drop from nearby trees, especially Bald Cypress, leads to a very dark-brown river.
The Santa Fe River is unusual in that it completely disappears underground and then reappears 3 miles (4.8km) downstream. The river drops into a large sinkhole in O'Leno State Park and reappears in the adjacent River Rise Preserve State Park. A map of the watershed clearly shows the gap in the river where it flows underground. Springs like Gilchrist Blue, Ginnie, Hornsby, Lily, Poe, and Rum Island springs are located at the banks of the river, mostly downstream of the river's reappearance above ground level.
The river is 46 miles (74km) long. It was first dammed in 1881 and flows when water is released by the city of Santa Fe from two continuous reservoirs. The site of the 1881 dam, upstream of Santa Fe, is now part of the 190-acre (0.77km2) Santa Fe Canyon Preserve, a trailhead for the 20-mile (32km) Dale Ball Foothill Trail System.
The Santa Fe River Watershed is 285 square miles (740km2), ranging in elevations between 12,408ft (3,782m) to 5,220ft (1,590m).
The environmental group American Rivers designated the Santa Fe River as America's most endangered river of 2007, and Santa Fe Mayor David Coss has made reviving the river one of his administration's top priorities.
Florida (officially Florida Este) is a mostly residential barrio of the Vicente López Partido in the northern suburbs of Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is principally a middle-class neighbourhood and is located between the barrios of Olivos and Vicente López, also in the same partido (department).
Location
The city is located between The Autopista Pascual Palazzo (mostly known as "Panamericana" or "Acceso Norte") highway and the Maipú Avenue. The Acceso Norte splits the district into two neighborhoods: Florida Este (from Panamericana to Maipú Avenue) and Florida Oeste (from Panamericana to De los Constituyentes Avenue).
Florida is served by the Mitre Line, which provides easy access to the city of Buenos Aires. Due to the railway lines, Este and Oeste neighborhoods are also called "Florida Mitre" or "Florida Belgrano". Its main commercial area is centered on General San Martín avenue.
History
Florida was founded in 1891 when the Buenos Aires and Rosario Railway opened a station in the section from Belgrano that then reached Bartolomé Mitre, Borges and San Isidro. Some versions state that the station (and subsequently the village) was named "Florida" to commemorate a victory over Spanish army in the Paraje La Florida of Alto Perú on May 25, 1814, during the War of Independence.
The station is located below the Avinguda Catalunya, between the Carrer Ceravalls and Carrer Mimoses. It has two entrances, from the Placa Blocs Florida and the Avinguda Masnou, which serve an underground ticket hall. The two 98-metre (322ft) long side platforms are at a lower level.
About 2 hours west of St. Augustine, you'll find one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the southern United States - the fresh water springs of the Santa Fe River. We got there by renting a canoe at Santa Fe Canoe Outpost and paddling down river.
As can always be the case in Florida, we ran in to a sudden change in weather. Thunder, lightning, and a downpour of rain chased us to the swampy banks to find shelter under some trees!
The fact that it's only a 1 in 5 chance to see an alligator on this stretch of the river was cold comfort....I mean, the odds were less than that we'd get caught in the rain!
Thankfully, our son was up to the challenge as he set about setting up the comforts of home (like a place to go to the bathroom!)...

North Florida Ultralight Fishing on the Santa Fe River
I decided to give the darters and shiners a break and just do some ultralight fishing for sunfish and smaller bass. It ended up being a great little session with over a dozen fish caught in about an hour. Most were spotted sunfish, but I also managed two Suwannee bass and a lone largemouth. Best fishing session of my northern Florida trip so far.

The Santa Fe River is Unsafe
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has designated the Santa Fe River as an Outstanding Florida Waterway (OFW) but in recent years boat traffic has made the river extremely unsafe for historical recreational uses such as swimming, canoeing and fishing. Long term residents are being denied access to the river that they live on due to high speed boaters. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulates boaters. Please contact the FWC at myfwc.com and let them know that boaters need to travel at idle speed regardless of river stage. Please help us make the Santa Fe River safe again.

Kayaking On the Santa Fe River in Northern Florida
View the Post: https://mountainmodernlife.com/kayaking-down-santa-fe-river/
In this video we go Kayaking on the Santa Fe River in Northern Florida. We rented a tandem Kayak from Rum 138 and hit the water. The amount of nature and clear water we saw was breathtaking.
We were low on battery and our phones died along the way but here are some highlights from our journey.
The people at Rum 138 were amazing and the river was beautiful. As you paddle along you can take different small branches off the river to springs with crystal clear blue water.
If you're in Northern Florida and looking to get out on the river you can check them out at the below web address:

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has designated the Santa Fe River as an Outstanding Florida Waterway (OFW) but in recent years boat traffic has made the river extremely unsafe for historical recreational uses such as swimming, canoeing and fishing. Long term residents are being denied access to the river that they live on due to high speed boaters. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulates boaters. Please contact the FWC at myfwc.com and let them know that boaters need to travel at idle speed regardless of river stage. Please help us make the Santa Fe River safe again.
