San Polo is the smallest of the six sestieri of Venice, northern Italy, covering 86acres (35hectares) along the Grand Canal. It is one of the oldest parts of the city, having been settled before the ninth century, when it and San Marco formed part of the Realtine Islands. The sestiere is named for the Church of San Polo.
Overview
The district has been the site of Venice's main market since 1097, and connected to the eastern bank of the Grande Canal by the Rialto bridge since the thirteenth century. The western part of the quarter is now known for its churches, while the eastern part, sometimes just called the Rialto, is known for its palaces and smaller houses.
The municipality of Torrile contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Bezze, Borgazzo-Ca'Scipioni, Gainago Ariana, Quartiere Minari, Rivarolo, San Polo (municipal seat), San Siro, and Sant'Andrea.
In the comune is the pieve of Gainago, known from 1144. It houses important 13th-century frescoes with a Deposition, Saint and Madonna with Child. The town is also the home of Erreà, which is one of the leader sportswear producers of Italy.
San Polo is a station of the Brescia Metro, in the city of Brescia in northern Italy. The station is centrally located in the populous district of San Polo.
Although the station is officially designated as just "San Polo", it is usually referred to as "Cimabue" to distinguish it from the "San Polo Parco" station.
With its 20,000 inhabitants San Polo is one of the most densely populated districts of Brescia and most people get to the station by bus, the bus stop is right in front of the stairs, on foot or by bicycle. Because the station primarily serves the neighbourhood and is not a transportation hub there are only about thirty parking spaces along the street. In the immediate vicinity there are two schools to the north and south, and the Church of Saint Angela Merici to the west.

The Chiesa di San Polo is a Catholic church in Venice, dedicated to the Apostle Paul. It gives its name to the San Polosestiere of the city. The current Gothic church dates from the 15th century, but a church has stood on the site since the 9th century and the south doorway, possibly by Bartolomeo Bon, survives from this church. The campanile, standing detached from the church, was built in 1362.
The interior has a ship's keel roof and was restored in 1804 by Davide Rossi. On the left wall near the entrance is a Last Supper by Jacopo Tintoretto, while the first altarpiece on the left, is attributed to his studio. Other walls have canvases by Paolo Piazza (St Silvester baptizes Emperor Constantine and St Paul Preaching; by Jacopo Guarana (Sacred Heart).
The altar of the absidal chapel on the left has a Marriage of the Virgin by Paolo Veronese. The presbytery has canvases by Palma il Giovane including St Peter and the Keys, the St Paul at Tarsus, and a Temptation of St Anthony Abbot). Next to the altar are two bronze statues by Alessandro Vittoria:St Paul and St Anthony Abbot.
