Samora Moisés Machel (September 29, 1933 – October 19, 1986) was a Mozambican military commander, revolutionary socialist leader, father and eventual President of Mozambique. Machel led the country from independence in 1975 until his death in 1986, when his presidential aircraft crashed in mountainous terrain where the borders of Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa converge.

(3 Feb 1977) Frelimo resolution to transform the Liberation Front to the National Ruling Party of Mozambique, carried to the capital Maputo across the water. President Machel has announced that a general election will be held in a year's time. this will be the first election since mozambique gained independence from portugal, 20 months ago. President Machel begins his day by unveiling a monument to the Frelimo soldiers slain in the struggle for independence. Frelimo, which operates along Marxist-Leninist lines, is now firmly established as the country's major political force.

A Renamo surgiu em 1976 de uma iniciativa descrevida por Samora Machel neste vídeo como “Contrarrevolução” Inicialmente a Renamo teve financiamento do Pais vizinho, Rodésia (atual Zimbábue), governado, naquela ocasião, por uma minoria branca que tinha objetivo de desestabilizar Moçambique, esse foi o período de governação de Ian Smith. Segundo William Minter (1994, p. 7) citado em Macagno (2009) é ja um facto que a Renamo foi fundada pelo regime da Rodesiana, a Renamo começou como um pequeno grupo naquela altura chamados de bandidos armados, ao longo dos anos a Renamo tornouse-se em uma potente força militar.

Apos o fim do regime de Ian Smith e a proclamação da independência do Zimbabwe em 1980, muitos analistas políticos internacionais perguntavam-se como é que uma força política tão impopular como a Renamo era capaz de se manter firme mesmo após o fim do regime de Ian Smith, pouco depois foi descoberto que os guerrilheiros da Renamo eram apoiados pelo governo da Africa do Sul. Existem fontes que também indicam que a Renamo tinha apoio dos Portugueses, alias Samora Machel faz essa afirmação no vídeo acima "Esse Renamo tem a sua capital em Lisboa"
R. Joseph Parrott (1973) Em seu filme feito durante a guerra de Libertação, afirma que os Portugueses acreditavam que o governo da Frelimo só ia durar poucos meses por isso que durante a guerra de libertação, o governo Português atacou muitos civis para fazer com que as populações acreditasem que a vida era melhor sob domínio Português, então se é que os Portuguese apoiaram a Renamo esse pode ter sido o fio de pensamento usado, desestabilizar Moçambique para destruir a credibilidade da Frelimo.
As negociações para um acordo de paz entre a Frelimo e a Renamo iniciaram em 1990 em Roma e se estenderam até 1992, quando Joaquim Chissano e Afonso Dhlakama finalmente assinanram, o Acordo Geral de Paz, pondo em fim uma das guerras civis mais sangrentas da África.
