Saint-George is first mentioned in 1153 as Sancti Georgii de Essartinis.
Geography
Saint-George has an area, as of 2009, of 12.32 square kilometers (4.76sqmi). Of this area, 2.18km2 (0.84sqmi) or 17.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 9.42km2 (3.64sqmi) or 76.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.71km2 (0.27sqmi) or 5.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.02km2 (4.9 acres) or 0.2% is unproductive land.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.7% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.8%. Out of the forested land, 74.9% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 8.0% is used for growing crops and 4.8% is pastures and 4.8% is used for alpine pastures.
The municipality was part of the Aubonne District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Saint-George became part of the new district of Nyon.
Saint George (Greek:ΓεώργιοςGeorgios; Latin:Georgius; AD 275–281 to 23 April 303), according to legend, was a soldier in the Roman army who later became venerated as a Christian martyr. His parents were Christians of Greek background; his father Gerontius was a Roman army official from Cappadocia and his mother Polychronia was a Christian from Lydda in the Roman province of Syria Palaestina (Palestine). Accounts differ regarding whether George was born in Cappadocia or Syria Palaestina, but agree that he was raised at least partly in Lydda. Saint George became an officer in the Roman army in the Guard of Diocletian, who ordered his death for failing to recant his Christian faith.
The date of its creation is unknown, but 1130 was agreed upon as this date is on the back of the icon. However, the back itself was only made in the 19th century. Art critics also state either 1030, which is the foundation year of the Yuriev Monastery, or 1130-1140s to the Yuriev Monastery's consecration ceremony. This theory is supported by art historians Viktor Lazarev, Engelina Smirnova and Natalya Salko. Viktor Lazarev states that its size is suitable for that purpose.
The iconography corresponds to the common since 10th-century Byzantium depiction of Saint George not as a warrior, but as a young martyr.
Gothicizing tendencies in Paolo Uccello's art are nowhere more apparent than in this painting. It shows a scene from the famous story of Saint George and the dragon. On the right George is spearing the beast, and on the left the princess is using her belt as a leash to take the dragon up to the town.
The eye in the storm gathering on the right of Saint George is lined up with his spear showing there has been divine intervention.
An earlier less dramatic version of the same subject by the Italian artist is in the Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris.
The chapel fell into ruin in the early 18th century, only being restored in 1779. The murals were then rediscovered in 1844, and the castle and chapel became a 19th-century tourist attraction. The castle began to pass from private ownership into the hands of the Office of Works from 1915 onwards. Attempts were made to preserve the wall paintings in the chapel during 1931 and 1955, but the treatments, which involved the use of red wax, stained the paintings and caused considerable damage: the wax was removed in the 1970s.
Deals Gap is a popular and internationally famous destination for motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts, as it is located along a stretch of two-lane road known since 1981 as "The Dragon" . The 11-mile stretch of the Dragon in Tennessee is said to have 318 curves. Some of the Dragon's sharpest curves have names like Copperhead Corner, Hog Pen Bend, Wheelie Hell, Shade Tree Corner, Mud Corner, Sunset Corner, Gravity Cavity, Beginner's End, and Brake or Bust Bend. The road earned its name from its curves being said to resemble a dragon's tail. The stretch bears the street name "Tapoco Road" in North Carolina and "Calderwood Highway" in Tennessee and is signed entirely by US129 (hidden SR115).

Once there was a land beset by a dragon. The dragon breathed noxious fumes that poisoned the water and the countryside. To try and appease the dragon, the city paid it tribute in the form of farm animals, but those quickly ran out. They were left with no choice but to sacrifice village members to the dragon. But along came a mythic knight named George with a crazy idea: What if we killed the dragon instead?

There once was an old man who loved power and glory But in his long life he just had never won So he had a dream, let us call it obsession To stand in the middle, be admired by everyone He saw his one chance when rumors were spreading A dragon arrived in the outskirts of the town He thought if someone whould challenge the beast He would live forever even if he died by hunting it down And drawing his longsword with it´s edges blazing He rode to the lair to shed thick dragon blood He daydreamed that he would return home as a hero But his horse stumbled and he landed headlong in the mud As he lay there sobbing the dragon came along And saw the poor old man, oh, there had something to be done He invited the man to his cave where they drank tea And they became the best friends in the world of dragon and man He wants to fight the dragon, he wants to kill the beast
