The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) is an international body dedicated to seabird rehabilitation. The only seabird rehabilitation organization registered with the South African Veterinary Council, the non-profit centre is based at the Rietvlei Wetland Reserve in Table View, South Africa.

Recent days volunteering at SANCCOB!
Can you guess how many spots are on a penguin, compared to a cheetah? We sent some of our team to find out!
Just like the cheetah, African penguins are also endangered, even critically so.
The only way that we’ll ever stop the decline of our indigenous wildlife is for organisations to learn from each other and to grow the passion from a young age.
Some of the Ashia staff, interns and international volunteers have been helping out at SANCCOB over the past few weeks. Their experience working with a completely different type of animal was a great learning opportunity 🐧 well worth a days volunteering for anyone interested.

Sanccob is in desperate need of fish (sardines), to feed the African penguin chicks, as well as veterinary supplies, rehabilitation consumables and additional donations of towels and linen ... .
SANCCOB clinical veterinarian David Roberts said all five suffered from seizures and 30 other African penguins have been isolated after showing signs of corneal oedema, but there may be others that were exposed that have not shown clinical signs.
