Ryan Wayne White (December 6, 1971– April 8, 1990) was an American teenager from Kokomo, Indiana, who became a national poster child for HIV/AIDS in the United States after being expelled from middle school because of his infection. As a hemophiliac, he became infected with HIV from a contaminated blood treatment and, when diagnosed in December 1984, was given six months to live. Doctors said he posed no risk to other students, but AIDS was poorly understood at the time. When White tried to return to school, many parents and teachers in Kokomo rallied against his attendance due to concerns of the disease spreading through bodily fluid transfer. Western School was actually located in Russiaville outside of Kokomo and was not part of the local Kokomo school system. A lengthy legal battle with the school system ensued, and news of the court case turned White into a popular celebrity and advocate for AIDS research and public education. Surprising his doctors, White lived five years longer than predicted but died in April 1990, one month before his high school graduation.
White made his NHL debut in a call-up with the Montreal Canadiens on November 5, 2009 against the Boston Bruins, recording an assist. He was called up once again for a game against the Ottawa Senators the following month on December 8. After playing in the first period of that game, he pulled from the game after the NHL noticed he was playing, despite the Canadiens not having properly reported his call-up to the league before the 5 p.m. deadline.
"He led for a while, I led for a while. We're always trying to beat each other."
"We look at these back-to-back games as a playoff series. That's what we've done all year. We want to win both games and not give them any life."
"We got out of the pace we wanted. Fifty-two points is not our style, and Kellie going out, she is what holds this team together. That always hurts, and I think the combination of free throws and we got shots, but we didn't score."
"We have engineers in Iowa, Washington State and France. Although we have a critical need for good communications, we can't afford to spend the time and money to fly folks for weekly design and review meetings."
"We were noticing an increase in these problems. We couldn't go to freshman orientation anymore and tell parents there were no problems with the old system."
"I came face to face with death at thirteen years old."
"People would get up and leave so they would not have to sit anywhere near me."
"AIDS can destroy a family if you let it, but luckily for my sister and me, Mom taught us to keep going. Don't give up, be proud of who you are, and never feel sorry for yourself."
"Because of the lack of education on AIDS, discrimination, fear, panic, and lies surrounded me."
"Even at church, people would not shake my hand."
"How could these people in the public eye not be afraid of me, but my whole town was?"
"Entertainers, athletes, and stars started giving me support."
"I believe in myself as I look forward to graduating from Hamilton Heights High School in 1991."
"Twice a week I would receive injections or IV's of Factor VIII which clotted the blood and then broke it down."
"Financial hardships were rough on us, even though Mom had a good job at G.M."

In today’s video, we learn of a person who was born with hemophilia in 1971 and contracted age in 1984. During those days there was little known about the aids virus. They originally had given Ryan White 3 to 6 months to live, but he ended up beating the odds and to the age of 18.
He was born in Kokomo, Indiana and he was diagnosed with aids during the seventh grade. Ryan started to feel better instead of passing away in 3 to 6 months. so much so that he wanted to return to school but the stigma and bad information surrounding the aids virus, the school did not want to let him return and Ryan’s mom would have to be in court fighting for his return for a year and a half. Kids would call him names and say that he was gay because he contracted aids and also they were afraid to be around him or even give him a hug because they thought that he would infect them. They would also said that he must’ve done something against God or he would not have gotten aids.
Ryan’s mom decided to move to Cicero, Indiana for a new start. This President of the student body was very educated with the new disease aids and knew that he presented no danger to the students by attending school. Eventually, at the age of 16 he was able to get a job and be proud of it and to also go to school dances and proms. But unfortunately, he would pass away two months before graduating high school.
Ryan open the doors for people who had contracted aids and tried to eliminate the bad stigma and ignorance that came along with it when people treat people badly for having the disease. They even passed laws and legislation with Ryan’s name so that a foundation would be laid out so that future kids will not have to suffer or endure or go through bad treatment like Ryan had done. Ryan will always be remembered as a pioneer and as a very positive person who is brave and never gave up hope or faith through his journey here on earth with all of the lives, he touched and the people he educated about a new disease. And he would also set a standard of how human beings should treat other human beings.
If you or you know a person who has aids and needs help medically or even emotionally then reach out to the Ryan White foundation that was created in his memory to provide treatment for this disease to people who can’t afford treatment:
