The Second Chapter - Bishop T.D. Jakes
Have you ever felt like the impending close of a season would be bleak? In Ruth 2, two women whose resources dissipated are forced to either succumb to their stagnant situation, or create a path out. Bishop T.D. Jakes shares how Ruth and Naomi begin their journey from where God was to where God is. God’s changes often arrive as disruptions and we must allow the disruption to move us, without distracting us. Will you have the courage to end your story’s first chapter for a fresh start? #TheSecondChapter begins once you turn the page.

2021 01 04 Climate Action Hub with Brenna Walsh and Ruth Bishop
The need to address climate change is becoming increasingly apparent and the longer we wait to take significant climate action the more difficult it will be to decarbonize. Every step we take to slow climate change will reduce the negative effects which will be felt all over the world, but particularly by the world's most vulnerable. When we think of climate leadership, we have typically thought of national scale commitments and action. However, it has become increasingly apparent that action at other, smaller scales - such as that of a city or municipality- can be extremely effective. Additionally, it can engage citizens, build support for action and allow for locally relevant action to be imagined and implemented. Municipalities have direct influence over several sectors key to addressin...

Educational Architecture
Within the Bio21 precinct, the Ruth Bishop Building provides a purpose-built home for the University of Melbourne’s Advanced Microscopy, housing ten electron-microscopes including one with the highest resolution in Australia.
As an extension of the disused Veterinary Research Institute dating from 1910, the new building provides state-of-the-art microscopy suites, sample preparation laboratories, offices and break-out areas. Vertical fins mediate between old and new fabric, provide solar shading and screen various functions behind. Inside, views between spaces showcase research activity, increasing safety and creating a collegiate feel in the building.
Tailored solutions – including the cross-laminated timber structure, structurally isolated footings, and fibreglass reinforced concrete – were adopted to reduce stray earth currents and vibration from disrupting the microscopes. Existing electromagnetic field levels were reduced by over 98% and vibration levels are 100 times more stable than an operating theatre, resulting in one of the world’s most stable facilities for electron microscopy.
2021 Presentation to Juries - Held at Melbourne School of Design on Saturday 27th March 2021.
Please note, not all presentations in the category are available to the public due to confidentiality issues or problems with recording on the day.
The Australian Institute of Architects Presentation to Juries offers contenders in the 2021 Victorian Architecture Awards an opportunity to address judges with their nominated projects. Judging will span 11 major categories, and address 8 specific criteria.
Featuring some of Australia’s most prominent architects, the Australian Institute of Architects Presentation to Juries is a rare opportunity for the general public to learn about the influences behind some of Victoria’s most innovative buildings and follow the architectural process from concept to construction.

Municipalities have direct influence over several sectors key to addressing climate change: City Planning, Transportation, Public Buildings, Waste Management and Zoning. Demanding more from our cities, supporting them when they are proposing ambitious action and collaborating to build solutions which work for our communities is key to addressing climate change.
Building support for local, grass-roots action will be an important way to push all levels of government to build more ambitious climate plans, and implement more inclusive climate solutions. By building collaborations with groups working to build sustainable societies, conserve our natural environments, and improve social wellbeing of vulnerable and marginalized citizens (etc.) we can push for more ambitious local climate action which also makes more vibrant and juste societies.
The Community Climate Hub initiative is looking to build community led Hubs in Canadian cities which bring together citizens from all parts of our communities to push for decarbonization in our cities. To learn more about the Community Climate Hub initiative, and to sign up to join the Halifax Hub, please visit climatehub.ca.
Brenna Walsh has been working on addressing climate action at the municipal scale since 2017. Much of the focus of her work has been to bring together stakeholders who have not typically worked together to address climate change together to build more effective solutions. Brenna has worked at the global scale, consulting stakeholders on what gaps in research and knowledge need to be addressed to be able to further municipal scale climate action. She is also the Regional Organiser for Atlantic Canada for the Community Climate Hub initiative, which is supported by the Climate Reality Project (Canadian branch) and a trained Climate Reality Leader and presenter. Brenna is also an active member of the Ecology Action Center's Urban Development Advocacy Team.
Ruth Bishop has a background in theology and has volunteered in a variety of local community campaigns, including the campaign to ban uranium mining in Nova Scotia. She has also participated in a number of protest movements and played a lead role in organizing protests to allow Syrian refugees to come to Canada. Ruth works primarily as an ESL teacher, but has also worked as a mediator and hospital chaplain.
