By the early 20th century, several types of the Russian romance had emerged. An elite type of the Italianate opera-influenced song known as the "salon romance" is contrasted to the lower-class genre of "cruel romance" which features "senitimental courtship, illicit love, pained rejection, and often suicide". The latter is supposed to have given birth to the Russian chanson.

12 RUSSIAN HABITS YOU SHOULD ADOPT
There are certain things that Russians do that I feel people all over the world should do :) I just moved to the States and I miss a couple of these things. Learn Russian in Saint-Petersburg (https://goo.gl/HgakzE), and stay in my apartment!
Whether you'll be visiting Moscow or Saint- Petersburg (maybe for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia (Россия)?) I think it's very nice to learn some Russian habits.
We actually never say 'NA ZDOROVIE' when we drink, but we tend to say long speeches. We also wash hands first thing when we come home and we would never visit our friends empty-handed. So get a chocolate next time you visit a Russian, and don't forget to take your shoes off when you enter the apartment :)

The film shows intimate scenes from their homes and their workplaces, as well as glimpses of their political views, their standards of living, and their customs. The protagonists’ personal situations are presented in relation to official Russian studies on the particular generation to which they belong.
In Part 1 we go to a city halfway between Moscow and Novosibirsk to meet Jelena, who works as a surrogate mother in a children’s home. Then we travel to the boreal forest in western Siberia to meet 16-year-old Veronika, who spends most of the year in a boarding school. Her parents are reindeer herders and members of the indigenous Khanty people. The generation of young adults in Russia is represented by Kirill, who holds down a normal job, but spends his free time practicing a dangerous hobby: no holds barred boxing.

A very private trip through Russia - a world power with a shrinking population, a myriad of ethnic minorities, and vast distances, a country between tradtion and future.
Encounters with Russians from six different generations help us get to know a Russia beyond Moscow and the Kremlin. Away from the 75th Victory Day parade and displays of military might, we meet the people of Russia. They tell us of a nation poised between tradition and the future. Filmmaker Juri Rescheto travelled through the giant country, meeting with ordinary Russians who share their everyday lives with him. They talk about their joys and sorrows, their hopes and needs, and their experiences - good and bad.

Russia is arguably one of the most controversial countries on the planet. Much is said about them one way or the other (primarily due to Vladimir Putin), and very few countries have as many stereotypes (especially negative ones) floating around about them.
