The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (RTBG), which cover an area of approximately 14 hectares (34.6 acres), were established in Hobart in 1818 and are located within the Queens Domain. The Gardens hold historic plant collections and a large number of significant trees, many dating back to the nineteenth century. It also has an increasing number of important conservation collections of Tasmanian plants, of which the King's Lomatia is one of the most unusual, and the world's only Subantarctic Plant House. Here, plants from subantarctic islands in high southern latitudes are displayed in a climatically-controlled environment, where chilly fogs and mists mirror the wet, cold conditions of their island homes. The plants of the Subantarctic Plant House have been collected by Gardens staff and associated scientists on field trips to Macquarie Island.
The visitor centre houses a restaurant, souvenir shop, and a gallery with regularly changing displays by local artists, together with a display area containing the Gardens' own exhibitions.
A botanical garden or botanic garden is a garden dedicated to the collection, cultivation and display of a wide range of plants labelled with their botanical names. It may contain specialist plant collections such as cacti and succulent plants, herb gardens, plants from particular parts of the world, and so on; there may be greenhouses, shadehouses, again with special collections such as tropicalplants, alpine plants, or other exotic plants. Visitor services at a botanical garden might include tours, educational displays, art exhibitions, book rooms, open-air theatrical and musical performances, and other entertainment.
Botanical gardens are often run by universities or other scientific research organizations, and often have associated herbaria and research programmes in plant taxonomy or some other aspect of botanical science. In principle, their role is to maintain documented collections of living plants for the purposes of scientific research, conservation, display, and education, although this will depend on the resources available and the special interests pursued at each particular garden.
The Botanical Garden (also known as Botanical Garden – East 200th Street) Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of the Bedford Park section of the Bronx via the Harlem Line. It is 9.5 miles (15.3km) from Grand Central Terminal and is located just north of the intersection of Doctor Theodore Kazimiroff Boulevard (Southern Boulevard) and Bedford Park Boulevard (East 200th Street) adjacent to the site of the New York Botanical Garden. Service at Botanical Garden is hourly. This station is located in the Zone 2 Metro-North fare zone.
History
Prior to the establishment of the station, Botanical Gardens Station was the former site of Bedford Park Station, a railroad station that connected to a one-mile spur leading west to the Jerome Park Racetrack, which contained its own station of the same name. The racetrack was closed on October 4, 1894 to make way for the installation of the Jerome Park Reservoir, and the spur was used for construction of the reservoir until 1906.

TASMANIA - Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
We begin our travel adventure at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
Only a short walk from the City of Hobart
It's Australia's second oldest. Hard to imagine that a lot of the trees here are from the early 19th century.
Certainly not the biggest botanical garden in Australia but the most beautiful in my humble opinion.
Our favourite unique garden collections would have to be the
- Japanese Garden - With it's iconic shiny red bridge, feng shui plantations that represent water, wood and stone.
- Lily Pond with it's wooden decking area, built over the water overlooking a white bridge nestled between plants and huge leaves.
These gardens are an Instagrammers paradise.
The Botanical gardens also contain the only existing Subantartic Plant House in the world.

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens Hobart - Lets see whats in the garden today - Jan 2023
The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are the best in Australia. I can only compare them with 4 other major capitals in our country but I don't care, I love them. In our commitment to fit much more comfortably in our little Avan we are out and about walking and the Botanical Gardens make for a perfect quick walk or should I say meander.

Information provided by the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens explains that ancient, preserved pollen shows it dates it back more than 10,500 years ... The Wollemi was made available to home gardeners in Australia, and around the world, in 2005.
The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is urging customers who bought restricted poppy seeds from its gift shop to return them, after realising it was selling the prohibited product following recent raids on a Hobart flower farm ... .
