The Royal Agricultural Society of England promotes the scientific development of agriculture. It was established in the United Kingdom in 1838 with the motto "Practice with Science" and received its Royal Charter from Queen Victoria in 1840.
From its early days the society has held regular exhibitions around the country (called the Royal Show). The show was held in Stoneleigh Park (previously known as the National Agricultural Centre or NAC) near Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, England. An early venue for the show was at Park Royal, in northwest London.
The last Royal Show took place in 2009. Since then, the Society has concentrated on transfer of scientific knowledge to agricultural practitioners.
Awards
The society makes a number of regular awards.
Bledisloe Gold Medal
The Bledisloe Gold Medal for Landowners, instituted in 1958 by Viscount Bledisloe, is awarded to a landowner who has shown outstanding achievement in the successful land management and development of an English agricultural estate.
The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania (RAST) is a TasmanianAgricultural society based at the Hobart Showgrounds. The RAST organises many of the agricultural shows around Tasmania including the Royal Hobart Show. Originally called the “Van Diemen's Land Agricultural Society” the society was the first agricultural society formed in Australia. The society started in Hobart Town on 1 January 1822. The first show was conducted in January 1822, in the Old Market Place, just in front of the present State Parliament House. In 1922 His Majesty King George V approved the granting of the prefix ‘Royal’ to the Society and which in turn became known as the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania.
Society was an 1865 comedy drama by Thomas William Robertson regarded as a milestone in Victorian drama because of its realism in sets, costume, acting and dialogue. Unusually for that time, Robertson both wrote and directed the play, and his innovative writing and stage direction inspired George Bernard Shaw and W. S. Gilbert.
Origins
The play originally ran at the Prince of Wales's Theatre, Liverpool, under the management of Mr A. Henderson, opening on 8 May 1865. It was recommended to Effie Wilton, the manager of the Prince of Wales's Theatre in London's West End, by H. J. Byron, where it ran from 11 November 1865 to 4 May 1866 Robertson found fame with his new comedy, which included a scene that fictionalized the Fun gang, who frequented the Arundel Club, the Savage Club, and especially Evans's café, where they had a table in competition with the Punch 'Round table'. The play marked the London debut of Squire Bancroft, who went on to marry Effie Wilton in 1867 and become her co-manager.
Full Circle is the fourth full-length album by the punk band Pennywise. It was released on April 22, 1997 (see 1997 in music) and was digitally remastered on March 8, 2005 on the original label. This is the first Pennywise studio album to feature Randy Bradbury, who replaced bassist Jason Thirsk, who had committed suicide on July 29, 1996. The entire album was dedicated to the memory of Thirsk, who had been a key song writer for Pennywise until his death, and a close friend of all of those in the band.
Writing and production
There had been a delay between 1995's About Time and the recording of this album, which occurred in the fall of 1996. During the About Time tour, founding member Jason Thirsk took a hiatus from Pennywise to try to control his then-growing alcoholism. One Hit Wonder bassist Randy Bradbury, who had contributed on the band's 1993 album Unknown Road, stepped in. When Thirsk returned briefly on bass in 1996, Bradbury was supposed to switch to rhythm guitar; unfortunately, Thirsk died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 29th of that year at the age of 28. His death nearly delayed the production of the fourth Pennywise album.
The Seven and Five Society was an art group of seven painters and five sculptors created in 1919 and based in London.
The group was originally intended to encompass traditional, conservative artistic sensibilities. The first exhibition catalogue said, "[we] feel that there has of late been too much pioneering along too many lines in altogether too much of a hurry." Abstract artist Ben Nicholson joined in 1924, followed by others such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, and changed the society into a modernistic one and expelled the non-modernist artists. In 1935, the group was renamed the Seven and Five Abstract Group. At the Zwemmer Gallery in Charing Cross Road, London they staged the first exhibition of entirely abstract works in Britain.
Great Britain and Ireland was a set of special commemorativepostage stamps issued by the Royal Mail in 2006. The stamps were the final part of the British Journey series, which had previously featured Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. It was available as mint stamps, as a presentation pack, stamps cards, and a first day cover.
British Journey series
These stamps are the final issue in the British Journey series; which started in 2003 with Scotland, followed in 2004 with Northern Ireland and Wales, and South West England in 2005. The series was brought to a premature end with this issue due to a lack of popularity amongst collectors.
Stamp details
The stamps were issued as a block of stamps, five wide by two deep. The photographs selected for this issue show no sky but are intended to demonstrate the colours and textures of the United Kingdom. All values are first class.

200 years of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW
It began in 1822, in the early days of European settlement. The emphasis at that time was on agriculture and food provision for the new colony. The European settlers were struggling to adapt to the new environment and the problems they were facing with crops and farming. They needed to band together and help each other. And so a group of interested agriculturalists met on 5 July 1822 and formed the Agricultural Society of NSW.
The following year the Society held a Show, with livestock and produce categories. It was an opportunity to educate and inform the people of the colony, and to come together to transact business and exchange ideas. Competitions were held in order to ‘excite in proprietors an ambition to excel each other’, prizes were offered and judging took place in front of the pu...
