Oswalt was selected by the Astros in the 1996 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the club in 2001 and finished with a win–loss record of 14–3. He was back-to-back 20-game winner in both 2004 and 2005. He helped the Astros to their first World Series appearance in 2005. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2005 National League Championship Series (NLCS). When he left the Astros in 2010 his wins (143) and strikeout total (1,593) was second in franchise history to Joe Niekro (144) and Nolan Ryan (1,866). He is a three-time All-Star, selected from 2005 to 2007. As of the 2012 season his career strikeout total was in the top 100 all-time.
"It's probably the worst game I ever threw, that I could remember. It was a bad game all the way around - walking people, not throwing the ball where I wanted to, getting behind guys - it was one of those days. I was like a high school kid out there."
"I've been trying to get my legs under me, and I feel good now."
"I think we corrected two of them, ... Two of them were borderline."
"It's just those last three outs. Hitters are going to bear down a little more on those last three outs."
"The way the game is now you can't take care of business on the mound,"
"I don't like seeing guys who've never done anything in this game acting like they've been around and been All-Stars. I'm talking about guys with 30 career home runs who go pimping around the bases when they hit a home run like they're Barry Bonds or something. I don't like seeing that."
"My back foot slipped off the back of the rubber, and once my feet gave way, I started to throw the pitch anyway, and my mind said, change real quick, don't lob one up there and let the guy hit it out, ... I went ahead and took that one on the chin."
"Where I come from is not very big, so everywhere I go is someplace bigger."
"I thought it was a key situation of the game, especially 2-1, ... That, and two innings before, when they had guys on, could have blew it wide open with a base hit and I was able to make a quality pitch at the time needed."

Roy Oswalt: The Underappreciated Ace of the 2000s
Roy Oswalt was one of the best pitchers of his era, but rarely gets the recognition he deserves. A workhorse, he placed in the top 5 of the Cy Young voting five times in his career, and helped lead the Houston Astros to their first ever World Series appearance.

Ryan Howard Gets Ejected, Roy Oswalt Comes in to Play Left Field
In a 2010 regular season extra innings game, Ryan Howard was ejected by the 3rd base umpire Scott Barry. The Phillies had already used all of their bench players, so they had to play a pitcher in the field. Left fielder Raul Ibanez switched to first base, and the Phillies brought in pitcher Roy Oswalt to play left field. This was all against Oswalt's former team, the Astros, who had traded him to the Phillies less than a month before. I do not own this clip.

At 81-56, they own the second-best record in Major League Baseball... They would have four aces in their rotation, which would evoke memories of the early 2010s when they had Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels in the same rotation ... .

“I was an honorary batboy when I was 5 years old ... But, what was crazy was after the first game in Houston, Roy Oswalt came off the mound ― an all-star pitcher for the Astros ― and said it was louder than any World Series game he’s been a part of.
