Route 322 begins at an intersection with Route 69 in Wolcott and curves east, southeast, and south to the southeast corner of the town, then turns east into Southington. In Southington, it continues east near the Southington-Cheshire town line, intersecting I-84, and then turns southeast, briefly crossing into Cheshire before crossing the Quinnipiac River and reentering southeastern Southington. It continues generally southeast, ending at an interchange with I-691 near the Southington-Meriden town line.
History
Route 322 was established in 1963, running from Route 69 to then US 6A (Meriden Road) in Wolcott. The year before becoming a signed route, Route 322 was taken over by the state and designated as unsigned SR 522 as part of the Route Reclassification Act. In 1967, with the decommissioning of US 6A, it was extended east along former US 6A to I-84 in Southington. In 1987, with the opening of I-691, the portion from I-84 to Exit 4 of I-691 was transferred from Route 66 (which was truncated to I-91) to Route 322.
MarylandRoute322 (MD322) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Easton Parkway, the highway runs 5.12 miles (8.24km) on the west side of Easton between two junctions with U.S.Route50 (US50). MD322 serves as a bypass of downtown Easton for traffic between US50 and highways to western Talbot County, including MD33 toward Saint Michaels and MD333 toward Oxford. Easton Parkway was constructed in the mid to late 1960s. The state highway was originally designated as part of MD33; MD322 became the sole designation on the bypass in 1978.
Route description
MD322 begins at a directional intersection with US50 (Ocean Gateway) south of Easton; there is no direct access from southbound MD322 to westbound US50. MD322 heads north as a four-lane divided highway to MD565 (Washington Street). Beyond this intersection, the state highway reduces to two lanes, curves to the northwest, and crosses Paper Mill Pond. MD332 parallels the pond through the highway's intersection with MD333, which heads southwest as Oxford Road and northeast as Peach Blossom Road. After the pond turns west, the state highway intersects Port Street, which heads east toward downtown Easton as MD334 and west as a county highway into the Easton Point industrial area.
The Connecticut River is the longest river in the New England region of the United States. Flowing roughly southward for 406.12 miles (653.59km) through four U.S. states, the Connecticut rises at the U.S. border with Quebec, Canada, and discharges at Long Island Sound. Its watershed encompasses five U.S. states and one Canadian province – 11,260 square miles (29,200km2) – via 148 tributaries, 38 of which are major rivers. Discharging at 19,600 cubic feet (560m3) per second, the Connecticut produces 70% of Long Island Sound's freshwater.
The Connecticut River Valley is home to some of the northeastern United States' most productive farmland, as well as a metropolitan region of approximately 2 million people surrounding Springfield, Massachusetts, and the state of Connecticut's capital, Hartford.
Etymology
The word "Connecticut" is a French corruption of the Mohegan word quinetucket, which means "beside the long, tidal river". The word "Connecticut" came into existence during the early 1600s, describing the river, which was also called simply "The Great River".

M&H Railroad-riding train across PA Route 322!
On May 13, 1995, I rode the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad on a railfan excursion ALL THE WAY into Hummelstown. We stopped short of the four lane road, manually activated the signals, AND had men on the ground to make sure all traffic was stopped. Listen to how the doubleheaded GE 65 tonners alternated blowing the Hancock Air Whistle and the 5 trumpet horns! Once in H-town, the train was split for the return trip.
