He was part of the team who lined out in the 2006 Tommy Murphy Cup and for National League Div 3 where he scored the game's only goal.
Dr. Ronan Carroll, a pioneer in the fields of infectious illnesses and microbiology! 🧫🦠 He is a great leader in his area, serving as Associate Director at the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Institute in addition to his positions as Associate Professor and Graduate Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences.
He explores novel regulatory pathways that control the expression of the virulence gene during growth in human serum in his lab, delving deeply into the mysterious world of S. aureus. A crucial component of how this bacterium causes disease is the release of toxins and virulence factors, which are the subject of most of his study.

Prof Ronan O'Carroll: Coping with covid-19 lockdown, keeping active & staying socially connected
"I very much miss sport/competition. In order to deal with this we have set up the CCC (coronavirus chipping competition)! Every lunchtime, my 79 year-old neighbour and I have a competition, 3 games of 10 shots each, chipping plastic golf balls over our adjoining wall. A lot rests on the result of this daily joust. So far it has been keeping my spirits up. This activity shows how I’ve been keeping up physical activity, maintained social connection, adhered to guidelines on physical distancing, AND introduced a way for some stress relief!" - Ronan

The Health Psychology team at the University of Stirling are a thriving, internationally recognised research group. We study factors influencing health behaviours and attitudes to health.
In the current pandemic, Health Psychology can help us to understand, for example, why people might behave in a certain way, beliefs about the virus and infection risk, people's perceptions of others' behaviours, and levels of trust in official messages. We can also help people keep up new behaviours like hand washing by using evidence-based behaviour change techniques, such as action planning, changing our home environment, and setting prompts and reminders. We can also offer guidance on how to cope with the challenges of living, working and parenting in lockdown.
