While Sherman was a "terse, ineloquent speaker leaving few memorable quotes",Thomas Jefferson said this of him: "That is Mr. Sherman, of Connecticut, a man who never said a foolish thing in his life."
Early life
Sherman was born into a farm family located at Newton, Massachusetts near Boston, his family later moved to Stoughton (a town located seventeen miles, or 27km, south of Boston) when he was two. The part of Stoughton where Sherman grew up became part of Canton in 1797. Sherman's education did not extend beyond his father's library and grammar school, and his early career was spent as a shoe-maker. However, he had an aptitude for learning, and access to a good library owned by his father, as well as a Harvard-educated parish minister, Rev. Samuel Dunbar, who took him under his wing.
Roger M. Sherman (born June 26, 1951) is an American filmmaker – a cinematographer, director, producer, still photographer, and author best known for his work in documentary cinema. He is a founder of Florentine Films. His most widely recognized documentaries are Alexander Calder (1998), Richard Rogers: The Sweetest Sounds (2001), Don't Divorce the Children (1989), Medal of Honor (2008), The Restaurateur (2010), Zapruder and Stolley: Witness to an Assassination (2011), his upcoming two-hour PBS special, The Search for Israeli Cuisine, The Rhythm of My Soul (2006), and The American Brew (2007).
Sherman was born at the Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City on June 26, 1951 to mother, Ray Morris Sherman and father, Lee Sherman (both deceased). He is the second of three sons. Ray founded a day camp for learning disabled children in Westchester that she ran as a volunteer for over a decade, and Lee was in the women's all-weather coat business. Roger attended Hunter College Elementary school until age seven when his family moved to Scarsdale, New York.
Roger L. Sherman is an American politician, farmer and schoolteacher from Maine. Sherman is a Republican member of the Maine House of Representatives from the 144th District in Aroostook County Sherman has served in the Maine Legislature since being elected to the House in 1998. Unable to seek re-election to the House in 2006, he was first elected to the Maine Senate in 2006. Unable to seek re-election to the Senate in 2014 because of term-limits again, Sherman was elected to the House instead.
He served as vice-chair of the rural caucus as a state representative. As a state senator, Sherman served on the Criminal Justice and Public Safety; Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; and Judiciary committees, as well as the sub-committees on Elections, and Children and Families.
Sherman was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1872 and attended Chicago's Hyde Park High School. He played two years of football for Hyde Park in the Cook County High School League. He was captain of a Hyde Park team that "was never defeated and won the pennant."
Michigan
Sherman enrolled at the University of Michigan, where he played at the quarterback and end positions for the Michigan Wolverines football team in 1890, 1891 and 1893. At 5 feet, 7inches, he was the shortest player on the Michigan team. In November 1891, the Chicago Daily Tribune wrote: "Sherman at quarter back, although not a swift passer, is cool-headed and is nearly always to be found near the ball."
"I believe that there is one only living and true God, existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. That the Scriptures of the old and new testaments are a revelation from God and a complete rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him."
"Let us live no more to ourselves, but to Him who loved us, and gave Himself to die for us."
"All civil rights and the right to hold office were to be extended to persons of any Christian denomination."
"We were driven off like rats in five minutes."
"We seemed to be in a little worse shape last week than some of the other areas around the state, but that seems to have taken care of itself now."
"I've been telling people there are seven islands in Island County. And people were telling me, 'No, there's six."
"Well, darn her anyway. I wonder why she left Baby Island off?"
"It's a trivia-type thing, but the RCW is wrong, and it should be changed."
"Real estate growth and real estate boom seem to be happening all over the country and [property-tax revolt] is an inevitable consequence."
"I wonder how unique people realize that it is. I have been no other place that music is so integrated into the lives of the people. Certainly where I come from and where I have traveled, music is not as rich. Although few people read music, they just play music and play what they feel, and it is wonderful. It was just one of the most fun projects I have ever made. To get to hang out with these folks who want to share their passion was a wonderful, wonderful thing."

SUMMARY

Roger Sherman (April 19, 1721 – July 23, 1793) was an early American statesman and lawyer, as well as a Founding Father of the United States. He is the only person to have signed all four great state papers of the United States: the Continental Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Sherman established a legal career in Litchfield County, Connecticut despite a lack of formal education. After a period in the Connecticut House of Representatives, he served as a Justice of the Superior Court of Connecticut from 1766 to 1789. He represented Connecticut at the Continental Congress and signed the Continental Association, which provided for a boycott against Britain following the imposition of the Intolerable Acts. He was also a member of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence. He later signed both the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. In 1784, he was elected as the first mayor of New Haven, Connecticut.
Sherman served as a delegate to the 1787 Philadelphia Convention, which produced the United States Constitution. After Benjamin Franklin, he was the oldest delegate present at the convention. Along with James Wilson, he proposed the Three-Fifths Compromise, which counted three-fifths of the slave population for the purposes of representation in the United States House of Representatives and the Electoral College. He favored granting the federal government power to raise revenue and regulate commerce, but initially opposed efforts to supplant the Articles of Confederation with a new constitution. He ultimately came to support the establishment of a new constitution, and proposed the Connecticut Compromise, which won the approval of both the larger states and the smaller states. After the ratification of the Constitution, Sherman represented Connecticut in the United States House of Representatives from 1789 to 1791. He served in the United States Senate from 1791 to his death in 1793.
