Roger "Rog" Bennett is a British-American journalist, author, radio presenter and film maker. He has written about sports, music, and culture for the New York Times, ESPN: The Magazine, and Time, among others.
He is the co-host, with Michael Davies, of the Men in Blazers. The duo records a weekly podcast (formerly on the Grantland network) and a show on NBCSN. The weekly half-hour NBCSN television show "The Men in Blazers Show" covers the English Premier League. It debuted Monday, September 15, 2014 and is filmed in a studio in the SoHo area of New York City. They formerly had a show on Sirius XM.
In 2010, he created the architectural design competition Sukkah City with journalist Joshua Foer.
In 2014, he announced he would be becoming a naturalized American citizen based upon the United States men's national soccer team's progress in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Bennett is a longtime supporter of the Everton Football Club that plays in the English Premier League.
Bennett is also co-founder of a record label, Idelsohn Society for Musical Preservation, that has tracked down lost music from the 1950s and 60s and reissued it including BAGELS AND BONGOS and BLACK SABBATH.
Roger Bennett (March 10, 1959 – March 17, 2007) was an American Southern gospel pianist, singer, songwriter, and co-founder of the award winning gospelquartetLegacy Five. Prior to forming Legacy Five, he served nearly 20 years as pianist for The Cathedrals.
Early life
Born March 10, 1959, grew up in Strawberry, Arkansas. He was raised in a Missionary Baptist home. In November 1979, Roger fulfilled his lifelong dream of being a part of professional southern gospel music when he was invited by Glen Payne and George Younce to join the legendary Cathedral Quartet. Though he would leave the group for two years (1987–1989) to serve as the president of Journey Records, Roger was the group's pianist at the time of the quartet's retirement in 1999. Roger also served as the Cathedrals' lead singer for the final three months of the group's farewell tour in 1999, following the passing of long-time lead Glen Payne.
Further career
Following the retirement of The Cathedrals, Roger and fellow Cathedrals member Scott Fowler launched Legacy Five. In 2004, Roger fulfilled another dream (having his own successful quartet) when readers of Singing News voted Legacy Five as the Favorite Traditional Male Quartet.
Roger Bennett (1948–1997) was an Arrernte man from Central Australia, an actor, and a playwright. His best known works are Up the Ladder and Funerals and Circuses.
His works dealt with his life experiences, particularly the travelling boxing tents, where his father, Elley Bennett was a boxing champion during the 1940s and 1950s. Roger himself had also fought in the travelling tents.
Up the Ladder takes the audience right inside the spangled, sweaty, tatty and deceptive world of the travelling sideshow carnival, from tawdry fake snake charmers to the sawdust of the boxing ring. [co-director] Enoch says the Aboriginal culture comes through in the play's physicality, mocking humour and the sparse nature of the dialogue.
