Robert II Curthose, Duke of Normandy - Crusades History
Robert II, byname Robert Curthose, French Robert Courteheuse, (born c. 1054—died February 1134, Cardiff, Wales), duke of Normandy (1087–1106), a weak-willed and incompetent ruler whose poor record as an administrator of his domain was partly redeemed by his contribution to the First Crusade (1096–99).
The eldest son of William I the Conqueror, Robert was recognized in boyhood as his father’s successor in Normandy. Nevertheless, he twice rebelled against his father (1077/78 and c. 1082–83) and was in exile in Italy until he returned as duke on his father’s death in 1087. He was totally unable to control his rebellious vassals or to establish a central authority in Normandy.
In 1091 Robert’s younger brother, King William II of England, invaded Normandy and compelled Robert to yield two cou...

William the Conqueror’s son Robert’s Tomb and His Quest for the Crown- Gloucester Cathedral England
Robert Il Duke of Normandy had a complicated relationship with his father, William the Conqueror, and his brothers. William the Conqueor was Duke of Normandy before he conquered England and became king. When he died he split his lands and titles giving the Dukedom to Robert and the throne of England to his second son William Rufus. William Rufus and Robert made a pact, after extensive squabbling and a rebellion, that if either of them died without and heir that they would unite Normandy and England again- it it would go to whoever had survived.
So Robert thought he would become king when William Rufus died in a hunting accident, but his youngest brother Henry I took the throne while Robert was away on a Crusade. Henry not only took the throne of England but also took Normandy as well and i...

ROBERT II of SCOTLAND - WikiVidi Documentary
Robert II reigned as King of Scots from 1371 to his death as the first monarch of the House of Stewart. He was the son of Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland and of Marjorie Bruce, daughter of the Scottish king Robert the Bruce by his first wife Isabella of Mar. Edward Bruce, younger brother of Robert the Bruce, was named heir to the throne, but he died without legitimate children on 3 December 1318 in a battle near Dundalk in Ireland. Marjorie by this time had died in a riding accident – probably in 1317. Parliament decreed her infant son, Robert Stewart, as heir presumptive,, but this lapsed on 5 March 1324 on the birth of a son, David, to King Robert and his second wife, Elizabeth de Burgh. Robert Stewart inherited the title of High Steward of Scotland on his father's deat...

An American War Hero: The Epic Sacrifice of Robert D. Booker in North Africa #war #army#facts #ww2
On April 9, 1943, despite hostile enemy fire, Booker crossed an open field near Fondouk, Tunisia, carrying a machine gun and a box of ammunition. Once he reached his intended location, nearly 200 yards away, Booker set up his machine gun and began firing on enemy targets. After being shot and injured, he continued firing his weapon and eventually destroyed an enemy machine gun. As he turned to fire on a second enemy machine gun, Booker was shot again, this time fatally. Before he died, however, Booker remained restrained and unfazed as he continued to encourage his squad and help direct their fire.

Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As one of Scotland history tour guides people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So from April 2020 I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

In 1091 Robert’s younger brother, King William II of England, invaded Normandy and compelled Robert to yield two counties. William attacked again in 1094, and when a peace was made that gave him control of Normandy in return for money, Robert joined the First Crusade. He fought at Dorylaeum (1097) and was at the capture of Jerusalem (1099). His courageous leadership contributed to the victory at Ascalon (1099).
When Robert’s youngest brother, Henry I, succeeded William as king of England (1100), Robert was in Italy. He hastened back to invade England, with ignominious results, and Henry in turn invaded Normandy (1105 and 1106). Captured in the Battle of Tinchebrai (September 28, 1106), Robert spent the rest of his life as a prisoner, dying in Cardiff castle.

Henry not only took the throne of England but also took Normandy as well and imprisoned Robert for twenty years. Robert died when he was 83 and was buried Gloucester Cathedral.

Robert Stewart inherited the title of High Steward of Scotland on his father's death on 9 April 1326, and a Parliament held in July 1326 confirmed the young Steward as heir should Prince David die without a successor. In 1329 King Robert I died and the six-year-old David succeeded t...
