Khmer Empire
The Khmer Empire (Khmer: ចក្រភពខ្មែរ), the predecessor state to modern Cambodia ("Kampuchea" or "Srok Khmer" to the Khmer people), was a powerful Khmer Hindu-Buddhist empire in Southeast Asia. The empire, which grew out of the former kingdoms of Funan and Chenla, at times ruled over and/or vassalised most of mainland Southeast Asia, parts of modern-day Laos, Thailand, and southern Vietnam.
Its greatest legacy is Angkor, in present-day Cambodia, which was the site of the capital city during the empire's zenith. The majestic monuments of Angkor – such as Angkor Wat and Bayon – bear testimony to the Khmer Empire's immense power and wealth, impressive art and culture, architectural technique and aesthetics achievements, as well as the variety of belief systems that it patronised over time. Satellite imaging has revealed that Angkor, during it peak in the 11th to 13th centuries, was the largest pre-industrial urban centre in the world.
The beginning of the era of the Khmer Empire is conventionally dated to 802 AD. In this year, King Jayavarman II had himself declared chakravartin ("king of the world", or "king of kings") on Phnom Kulen. The empire ended with the fall of Angkor in the 15th century.

Rises and falls
Rises and falls is a category of the ballroom dance technique that refers to rises and falls of the body of a dancer achieved through actions of knees and feet (ankles).
This technique is primarily recognized in International Standard and American Smooth dance categories. Rises and falls are important in Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, and Viennese Waltz. Tango is described the "level" or "flat" dance, and its basic technique specifically eliminates rises/falls in the overall motion, with the exception of certain advanced figures and styles.
The expression "rises and falls of the body" is a rather vague one, and in attempts to be more precise some texts refer to center of gravity, rather than body. This may also be misleading if taken out of context: the center of gravity may be lowered, e.g., by bends and sways. In addition, a certain amount of body rise and fall may be achieved by hip action, used in Latin dance, but absolutely proscribed in Standard and Smooth.
Rises and falls of the body is a natural phenomenon during casual walking: when feet are apart the body is closer to the ground than when the feet are together. Some dances, e.g., Charleston, exaggerate this natural "bobbing", while in many others bobbing at each step is considered to be bad style or lack of proper technique.

Rise & Fall (song)
"Rise & Fall" is a song by British R&B artist Craig David and the third single taken from his second studio album, Slicker Than Your Average (2002). The song, a collaboration with British musician Sting, returned David to the UK top five, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart. It was the biggest hit from the album.
The song is based on a sample of the 1993 song "Shape of My Heart" from Sting's album Ten Summoner's Tales. Girl group Sugababes released their song, "Shape", which also sampled the Sting song within weeks of "Rise & Fall". The song also returned David to the top ten of the Australian Singles Chart, outpeaking both "What's Your Flava?" and "Hidden Agenda". It also marked the first DVD single release from David.
Chart performance
"Rise & Fall" charted at number two on the UK Singles Chart, spending ten weeks inside the UK Top 75. It also charted at number six in the ARIA Charts.
Music video
The music video was directed by Max & Dania, who have directed a number of Craig David's videos.

i/kæmˈboʊdiə/;Khmer: កម្ពុជា, Kampuchea, IPA: [kɑmpuˈciə]), officially known as the Kingdom of Cambodia (Khmer: ព្រះរាជាណាចក្រកម្ពុជា, Preăh Réachéanachâk Kâmpŭchéa, IPA: [ˈprĕəh riəciənaːˈcɑk kɑmpuˈciə]) and once known as the Khmer Empire, is a country located in the southern portion of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Its total landmass is 181,035 square kilometres (69,898 sq mi), bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest.
With a population of over 15 million, Cambodia is the 70th most populous country in the world. The official religion is Theravada Buddhism, practised by approximately 95 percent of the population. The country's minority groups include Vietnamese, Chinese, Chams, and 30 hill tribes. The capital and largest city is Phnom Penh, the political, economic, and cultural centre of Cambodia. The kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with Norodom Sihamoni, a monarch chosen by the Royal Throne Council, as head of state. The head of government is Hun Sen, who is currently the longest serving non-royal leader in South East Asia and has ruled Cambodia for over 25 years.

Cambodia (song)
"Cambodia" is the fourth single by British singer Kim Wilde. It was released at the end of 1981; a year in which Wilde had already scored three highly successful hit singles and a best-selling debut album.
The single was another international success, topping the charts in France, Sweden and Switzerland and hitting the Top 10 in several other nations. In France alone it sold one million copies. It was released on the 7" format but also as a 12" single in Germany, although not in a remixed or extended version. The B-side of both releases was an exclusive non-album track called "Watching For Shapes".
"Cambodia" was later included on Wilde's second original album, Select and was followed by a more uptempo, instrumental version of the song with the title "Reprise".
Musically and lyrically, "Cambodia" showed a change in direction for Wilde from the new wave feel of her debut album. The song was mainly synth-driven, with oriental-sounding percussion.

Cham invasions of Angkor (1170, 1177–1181) Under Suryavarman II (reigned 1113–1150) the Kambuja (Khmer) kingdom united internally and Angkor Wat, the largest Vaishnavites temple in the capital of Yaśōdharapura (Angkor) was built in a period of 37 years. Cham invasions of Angkor (1170, 1177–1181)
Under Suryavarman II (reigned 1113–1150) the Kambuja (Khmer) kingdom united internally and Angkor Wat, the largest Vaishnavites temple in the capital of Yaśōdharapura (Angkor) was built in a period of 37 years. Khmer forces though he did sack Champa capital, Vijaya in 1145 and depose Jaya Indravarman III. The Khmers occupied Vijaya until 1149, when they were driven out by Jaya Harivarman I. Suryavarman II sent a mission to the Chola dynasty of south India and presented a precious stone to the Chola Emperor Kulothunga Chola I in 1114.
After Suryavarman II died, Kambuja (Khmer) empire was weakened by succession crisis, while Champa was united by King Jaya Indravarman IV. Finally in 1177 CE the Kambuja capital Yaśōdharapura (Angkor) was raided and looted after victorious naval battle on the Tonlé Sap lake by a Cham fleet under Jaya Indravarman IV king of Champa. During the sack, usurper Tribhuvanadityavarman king of Kambuja (khmer) was killed. Nevertheless exiled khmer Jayavarman VII manage to save the Kambuja Empire from its demise and repel the cham forces.

The Khmer Empire was renowned for its grand temple complexes, its water management systems, and its unique architecture, which blended elements of Indian, Chinese, and local cultures. The Khmer Empire was founded in the early 9th century by Jayavarman II, who established an independent Khmer kingdom that would eventually grow into an empire. The Khmer Empire was a predominantly Theravada Buddhist kingdom, although it was tolerant of other religions. During its peak, the Khmer Empire was one of the most powerful empires in Southeast Asia, controlling much of present-day Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. The Khmer Empire was renowned for its grand temple complexes, such as Angkor Wat, Preah Vihear, and Banteay Srei. Development woes affected all three entries as well, often driving a wedge between members of the creative team. That series creator Ken Levine was supposedly difficult to work with only exacerbated the tension. Internal and public-facing issues aside, many would argue BioShock never shied away from challenging the status quo, all while raising the bar. But for Irrational’s publisher, a contingent of fans, and even some developers, that bar could never quite reach high enough.

Cham invasions of Angkor (1170, 1177–1181)
Under Suryavarman II (reigned 1113–1150) the Kambuja (Khmer) kingdom united internally and Angkor Wat, the largest Vaishnavites temple in the capital of Yaśōdharapura (Angkor) was built in a period of 37 years. Khmer forces though he did sack Champa capital, Vijaya in 1145 and depose Jaya Indravarman III. The Khmers occupied Vijaya until 1149, when they were driven out by Jaya Harivarman I. Suryavarman II sent a mission to the Chola dynasty of south India and presented a precious stone to the Chola Emperor Kulothunga Chola I in 1114.
After Suryavarman II died, Kambuja (Khmer) empire was weakened by succession crisis, while Champa was united by King Jaya Indravarman IV. Finally in 1177 CE the Kambuja capital Yaśōdharapura (Angkor) was raided and looted after victorious naval battle on the Tonlé Sap lake by a Cham fleet under Jaya Indravarman IV king of Champa. During the sack, usurper Tribhuvanadityavarman king of Kambuja (khmer) was killed. Nevertheless exiled khmer Jayavarman VII manage to save the Kambuja Empire from its demise and repel the cham forces.

The Khmer Empire was one of the most powerful and influential empires in Southeast Asia's history. From the 9th to the 15th century, this great civilization was based in what is now Cambodia, controlling much of the region for centuries. The Khmer Empire was renowned for its grand temple complexes, its water management systems, and its unique architecture, which blended elements of Indian, Chinese, and local cultures. The Khmer Empire was founded in the early 9th century by Jayavarman II, who established an independent Khmer kingdom that would eventually grow into an empire. The Khmer Empire was a predominantly Theravada Buddhist kingdom, although it was tolerant of other religions. During its peak, the Khmer Empire was one of the most powerful empires in Southeast Asia, controlling much of present-day Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. The Khmer Empire was renowned for its grand temple complexes, such as Angkor Wat, Preah Vihear, and Banteay Srei. These temple complexes were constructed in the unique Khmer style, blending elements of Indian, Chinese, and local cultures. The Khmer Empire was also known for its impressive engineering achievements, such as its sophisticated water management systems and its massive irrigation networks. The Khmer Empire reached its peak in the 12th and 13th centuries, but it slowly declined in the 15th century, eventually being replaced by the Siamese kingdom. Khmer Empire
The Khmer Empire (Khmer: ចក្រភពខ្មែរ), the predecessor state to modern Cambodia ("Kampuchea" or "Srok Khmer" to the Khmer people), was a powerful Khmer Hindu-Buddhist empire in Southeast Asia. The empire, which grew out of the former kingdoms of Funan and Chenla, at times ruled over and/or vassalised most of mainland Southeast Asia, parts of modern-day Laos, Thailand, and southern Vietnam.
Its greatest legacy is Angkor, in present-day Cambodia, which was the site of the capital city during the empire's zenith. The majestic monuments of Angkor – such as Angkor Wat and Bayon – bear testimony to the Khmer Empire's immense power and wealth, impressive art and culture, architectural technique and aesthetics achievements, as well as the variety of belief systems that it patronised over time. Satellite imaging has revealed that Angkor, during it peak in the 11th to 13th centuries, was the largest pre-industrial urban centre in the world.
The beginning of the era of the Khmer Empire is conventionally dated to 802 AD. In this year, King Jayavarman II had himself declared chakravartin ("king of the world", or "king of kings") on Phnom Kulen. The empire ended with the fall of Angkor in the 15th century.

Akin to the great musical artists and films of our time, certain video game releases have instituted a culture shift, establishing a clear demarcation line dividing the art created before its existence and after. Wolfenstein 3D earned its place among such a prestigious list, having fathered the modern first-person shooter in 1992. The 2001 launch of Grand Theft Auto 3 similarly shifted popular culture, birthing the open-world genre whose potential knows no limits. BioShock from Boston-based developer Irrational Games drew yet another indelible line in August 2007, its immersive gameplay, gripping atmosphere, and pioneering use of inventive storytelling devices elevating first-person shooters on countless fronts.
The original BioShock constituted Irrational’s attempt at bringing the hallmarks of the critically acclaimed yet commercially unimpressive System Shock to mainstream audiences. It accomplished as much by coloring outside the lines of market expectations. Over the course of the series, however, adapting to said expectations deeply affected the core of the brand.
Development woes affected all three entries as well, often driving a wedge between members of the creative team. That series creator Ken Levine was supposedly difficult to work with only exacerbated the tension. Internal and public-facing issues aside, many would argue BioShock never shied away from challenging the status quo, all while raising the bar. But for Irrational’s publisher, a contingent of fans, and even some developers, that bar could never quite reach high enough.
This is the rise and fall of BioShock.
