Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, in recognition of his impact on songwriting and recording.
Early life
Pickett was born March 18, 1941 in Prattville, Alabama, and sang in Baptist church choirs. He was the fourth of 11 children and called his mother "the baddest woman in my book," telling historian Gerri Hirshey: "I get scared of her now. She used to hit me with anything, skillets, stove wood — (one time I ran away) and cried for a week. Stayed in the woods, me and my little dog." Pickett eventually left to live with his father in Detroit in 1955.
Right On is the tenth studio album release by R&B and soul singer Wilson Pickett released in 1970. The album is considered by many critics to be a valley in between the two peaks of the Hey Jude album in 1969 and the Gamble and Huff produced Wilson Pickett In Philadelphia album that came later in 1970. Hit covers of The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" (#16 R&B, #92 Pop) and The Archies' "Sugar Sugar" (#4 R&B, #25 Pop), as well as the Pickett original "She Said Yes" (#20 R&B, #68 Pop) came from these sessions. The album, however, had dismal sales. It stayed in the bottom parts of the Billboard 200.
The backing band was Cold Grits; consisting of Billy Carter, Harold Cowart, Jimmy O'Rourke and Ron Ziegler; and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.
Track listing
"Groovy Little Woman" (Ernest Smith, Pickett) 2:38
Right On! was an Americanteen magazine first published by the Laufer Company in 1972 with editor/creator Judy Wieder and art director William Cragun. It continued publishing to c. 2011 and focused on African-American celebrities. It was later published by Dorchester Media.
History and profile
The magazine was born in 1972, out of the desire to have a teen idol type magazine for African Americans. Like Tiger Beat did with White American and Hispanic celebrities, Right On! covered everything and everyone African-American and involved in the entertainment business. It also offered female readers make-up tips, and had a pen pals section as well.
During its early years, Right On! focused primarily on the lives and careers of The Jackson 5, featuring numerous interviews with each Jackson family member by editor Judy Wieder, as well as Motown labelmates The Temptations and Diana Ross. In the 1980s Right On! was instrumental in the popularity of R&B teen group New Edition.

Lyrics:
Let’s go for a ride, hej you turn me right on
Let’s get on the bike, hej you turn me right on
Ain’t nothing to hide and hej you turn me right on
The city at night, hej she turn me right on
The kids in the park, hej they turn me right on
The city at dark, hej it turn me right on
Rose on the back, hej she turn me right on
Ain’t nothing will last but hej she tell me, “Ride on”
Take your greedy hands, lay em on me
Take your greedy hands, honey, lay em on me
It’s not in the heart, but hej you turn me right on
We sit at the bar and hej you turn me right on
We lay in the dark, honey, hej you turn me right on
We wait for the part and hej you turn me right on
Take your greedy hands, lay em on me
Take your greedy hands, honey, lay em on me
Moving too fast, hej it turn me right on
Shifting to pass, hej it turn me right on
I know nothing can last, but hej you turn me right on
And Rose on the back, hej she tell me, “Ride on”
