Ian Samuel White (born 20 December 1935) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a half-back for Leicester City and Southampton in the 1950s and 1960s. His career started in his home city of Glasgow with Celtic, where he failed to break through into the first team, before moving to England to join Leicester City in 1958, followed by five years at Southampton, before dropping down to non-league football.
Football career
White was born in Glasgow and played his youth football with Port Glasgow Hibs before joining Scottish Junior club St Anthony's in 1954, followed by a move to fellow Junior club Petershill in 1955. Having played as a junior international for Scotland, he signed for Celtic in April 1956.
He failed to make Celtic's first team in his two years at Celtic Park and in May 1958, he moved to England to join Leicester City of the Football League First Division. He had to wait until 7 November 1959 before he made his first-team debut when he took the place of Johnny Newman at right-half for the match against Sheffield Wednesday, which was won 2–0. White retained his place until mid-February, when he was replaced by Frank McLintock. Over the next few seasons, White was in-and-out of the side, with few opportunities to establish himself in the side resulting in a move to the south coast in the summer of 1962, having made a total of 54 appearances for the "Foxes".
BBC Look North is the BBC's regional television news service for West, South and NorthYorkshire and the North Midlands. The service is produced and broadcast from the BBC Broadcasting Centre at St. Peter's Square in Leeds with district newsrooms based in Bradford, Sheffield and York.
Look North can be watched in any part of the UK (and Europe) from Astra 2E on Freesat channel 966 and Sky channel 956. The latest edition of Look North is also available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
Many homes in southern areas of North Yorkshire such as Selby and York have their aerials directed at Emley Moor, meaning they receive the Leeds edition of Look North. In addition, central and southern parts of the Yorkshire Dales receive the Leeds edition of Look North through various relay transmitters. The western Dales, around Settle and Ribblesdale, receive BBC North West from the Winter Hill transmitter in Lancashire. The West Craven area of Lancashire, including Barnoldswick and Earby (historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire), receive the Leeds edition of Look North from the Skipton relay transmitter. Areas further north such as Wensleydale and some parts of the North York Moors can get a better signal from the Bilsdale transmitter meaning they receive the Newcastle edition of Look North. Most viewers in Scarborough and Filey receive the Leeds edition from a relay transmitter at Oliver's Mount and in some cases, the Hull edition for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Set in the aftermath of a nuclear war between the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States, the book chronicles the investigations of Carl Landry, a reporter for the Boston Globe. As the story unravels, Carl attempts to uncover the events leading up to the war, while at the same time running from those who would have the truth buried.
The story begins in 1972, ten years after a nuclear war between the US and USSR, which was precipitated by the Cuban Missile Crisis. Washington, D.C., New York, Omaha, San Diego, Miami, and other American cities, principally those surrounding military bases, have either been destroyed, damaged, or rendered uninhabitable by Soviet nuclear attacks. Philadelphia is now the capital of the United States, and although the civilian PresidentGeorge W. Romney is nominally in office, the US is effectively under martial law. The USSR has been utterly devastated by US nuclear strikes. Cuba is an atomic ruin, with Spain responsible for relief efforts aiding what is left of the island's population.

We're sliding out of time All these years are turning into dreams Wonderful and distant it all seems Could it be I found my way? When all my heroes lost in mystery It gave me reason to dream it up again And you’re wondering why You can’t let go You’re wondering why These resurrection days We are crawling from the underground When we break be sure to make a sound That’ll blow’em all away They should have killed me when they had a chance Before we get to make our great reveal And you’re wondering why You can’t let go And you’re wondering why Wide awake And here we are You’ll be the best by far And we embrace it all And when the worlds do collide See you on the other side And we embrace it all And you’re wondering why You can’t let go And you’re wondering why You can’t let go Change is not a welcomed word It’s fought against Seldom learned But we embrace it all Wide awake And here we are You’ll be the best by far And we embrace it all And when the worlds do collide See you on the other side And we embrace it all And you’re wondering why You can’t let go
