The Republican Party (Jumhooree party) is a political party in the Maldives. The party was founded by a group of MPs on May 26, 2008, and grew quickly, rapidly overtaking the Maldivian Democratic Party to become the largest opposition party in the Majlis for that year.
The party's leader and Its presidential candidate is businessman and former finance minister Qasim Ibrahim.
Founded by anti-slavery activists, modernists, ex-Whigs, and ex-Free Soilers in 1854, the Republicans dominated politics nationally and in the majority of northern States for most of the period between 1860 and 1932. There have been 18 Republican presidents, the first being Abraham Lincoln, who served from 1861 until his assassination in 1865, and the most recent being George W. Bush, who served from 2001 to 2009. The most recent Republican presidential nominee is former MassachusettsGovernorMitt Romney, who lost in 2012 to Democratic incumbent Barack Obama.
Although it is named after republicanism, that concept is no longer widely used. Instead republican ideals have been incorporated into the concept of conservatism, which serves as the ideological core of the party. This conservatism contrasts with the modern liberalism of the Democrats. The Republican Party's conservatism involves support for free marketcapitalism, free enterprise, business, a strong national defense, deregulation, restrictions on labor unions, social-conservative policies (particularly opposition to abortion), and traditional values, usually with a Christian foundation. The party is deeply split on the issue of how to deal with illegal immigration.
Republican Party (Turkish:Cumhuriyetçi Parti, CP) was a former political party in Turkey
Republican People’s party (CHP) which is usually credited as the founder of Turkish republic in 1923 was the oldest party in Turkey. But after the party adopted the policy of so-called left of center in 1960s, two groups of MPs broke away from the party. The first group in 1967 founded the Reliance Party. Republican Party was founded by the second group in 1972.
The party was founded on 4 September 1972.
The chairman of the Party was Kemal Satır, an ex vice prime minister. But it was a short lived party . On 28 February 1973 it was merged to Nationalistic Reliance Party (aka Reliance Party), which was renamed Republican Reliance Party.
The Republican Party contested the 1992 general elections alone, receiving 1.6% of the Chamber vote and failing to win a seat. Its votes share fell to 0.14% (Chamber) and 0.16% (Senate) in the 1996 elections, leaving the party seatless. The 2000 elections saw its votes share fall again to 0.10% and 0.11%.
Encompassing a territory spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometres (35,000sqmi), Maldives is one of the world's most geographically dispersed countries. It is the smallest Asian country in both land area and in population. The archipelago is located atop the Chagos-Maldives-Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range in the Indian Ocean, which also forms a terrestrial ecoregion, together with the Chagos and the Lakshadweep. With an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 metres (4ft 11in) above sea level, it is the planet's lowest country. It is also the country with the lowest natural highest point in the world, at 2.4 metres (7ft 10in). The government has pledged to make Maldives a carbon-neutral country by 2019 amid concerns about rising sea-levels.

Republican Party leadership has so thoroughly debased itself to stand up for Donald Trump in the midst of his criminal prosecutions that any previous claims of principled positions have lost credibility. While Trump may survive his legal battles, the Republican Party has already lost.

What's the future of the US Republican party? | Inside Story
The Conservative Political Action Conference is usually an indicator of where the U.S. Republican party is headed.
But at this year's gathering in Florida, there was only one man who stole the spotlight: former president Donald Trump.
In his first major speech since leaving the White House - he criticised president Joe Biden and hinted at a possible run in four years.
Those who've spoken against him in the past, were largely absent from the stage..
For many, his appearance on Sunday is an indication of just how much influence he still has within his base.

Republicans claim to love law and order, but when they break the law, incite a riot and actually kill cops, they call any demand for accountability “cancel culture!” Say what? With Trump’s second impeachment, the Democrats’ stunning victory in Georgia and the GOP’s very real attempts to overturn the results of a democratic election, the real question is: Does our democracy even need Republicans at all? And if being canceled is what they’re more afraid of than white supremacist violence, then sure, let’s go ahead and cancel the Republican Party. Ironically, it was a party that began by stopping insurrectionists in the 1860s. And in 2021, thanks to Donald Trump, it will end with supporting them. Funny.

Republican Party leadership has so thoroughly debased itself to stand up for Donald Trump in the midst of his criminal prosecutions that any previous claims of principled positions have lost credibility. While Trump may survive his legal battles, the Republican Party has already lost.

Funny.
