In the 1920s she spent time in London, where she appeared in a regular slot at the "Midnight Follies" as one half of a successful cabaret comedy act ("Silly and Dotty") with the English socialite Lady Sylvia Ashley at the London Metropole.
Remind Me (Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood song)
"Remind Me" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music singer Brad Paisley, performed as a duet with Carrie Underwood. The song was released in May 2011 as the third single from Paisley's album This Is Country Music, released May 23, 2011. The music video for the song premiered on CMT on July 26, 2011. The song was also named Taste of Country's Song of The Year for 2011. Paisley wrote this song with Kelley Lovelace and Chris DuBois.
Background
In an interview at the Billboard Country Music Summit in June 2011, Underwood described the recording of the song as "the most unorganized thing [she] had ever been a part of" but added that it "all worked out so perfectly." She and Paisley had previously discussed recording a duet for This Is Country Music but couldn't coordinate their schedules before the album was due to be completed in December 2010. The album was pushed back and Paisley contacted Underwood in February 2011, sending her a work tape of "Remind Me" with "a lot of mumbling" and Sheryl Crow singing the female part. Underwood saw potential in the song and flew from Los Angeles to Nashville to meet with Paisley, where they recorded the song on February 11, 2011. Upon the album's release in May 2011, Paisley expressed his hope that "Remind Me" would be its third single and described the decision to ask Underwood to perform on the song with him as an easy one.
"Remind Me" is the fourth single by Norwegian duo Röyksopp. The single version of "Remind Me" is a remix and is substantially different from the album version. The vocals on the song are provided by Kings of Convenience singer Erlend Øye.
"Remind Me" was also released as a double A-side single with "So Easy" after the latter was used by telecommunications company T-Mobile in a 2002 television advertisement in the UK; the single reached #21 in the UK Singles Chart. "Remind Me" was used in a 2006 U.S. advertisement for GEICO insurance.
A native New Yorker, Kern created dozens of Broadway musicals and Hollywood films in a career that lasted for more than four decades. His musical innovations, such as 4/4 dance rhythms and the employment of syncopation and jazz progressions, built on, rather than rejected, earlier musical theatre tradition. He and his collaborators also employed his melodies to further the action or develop characterization to a greater extent than in the other musicals of his day, creating the model for later musicals. Although dozens of Kern's musicals and musical films were hits, only Show Boat is now regularly revived. Songs from his other shows, however, are still frequently performed and adapted. Although Kern detested jazz arrangements of his songs, many have been adopted by jazz musicians to become standard tunes.
Saint Jerome (/dʒəˈroʊm/; Latin:Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus; Greek: Εὐσέβιος Σωφρόνιος Ἱερώνυμος; c. 347 – 30 September 420) was a priest, confessor, theologian and historian, who also became a Doctor of the Church. He was the son of Eusebius, born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia, then part of northeastern Italy. He is best known for his translation of most of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate), and his commentaries on the Gospels. His list of writings is extensive. The protégé of Pope Damasus I, who died in December of 384, Jerome was known for his teachings on Christian moral life, especially to those living in cosmopolitan centers such as Rome. In many cases, he focused his attention to the lives of women and identified how a woman devoted to Jesus Christ should live her life. This focus stemmed from his close patron relationships with several prominent female ascetics who were members of affluent senatorial families.
In this episode of "Wild Women of Song" we begin talking about the life and outstanding career of Dorothy Fields!
When I mention Dorothy Fields' name on stage, I usually get a blank look from the patrons in the night club, perhaps a little polite applause. Then I start to bring up just a few of her over 400 titles: "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" "On the Sunny Side of the Street" "Pick Yourself Up", "The Way You Look Tonight" "Hey Big Spender" and I'm greeted by a powerful wave of applause and happy recognition.
