Regina is an opera in three acts by Albert Lortzing who also wrote the libretto. It was composed in 1848, the year of the revolutions in the German states and during Europe's "Springtime of the Peoples" (Völkerfrühling), but it was not premiered until 21 March 1899 when it was performed at the Berlin State Opera. It is a "Freiheitsoper" (liberation opera) and the first opera which takes place in a factory with workers who strike and chant freedom songs. The first production of the original opera was in 1998 at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.

Synopsis
Act 1
In the beginning of the opera, workers are on strike and demand higher wages and general changes in the society. The foreman Richard, who is betrothed with Regina, the daughter of the factory owner, is able to appease the irate mood of the crowd. Another foreman, Stephan, who is also in love with Regina, joins a free corps that consists of political insurgents and occupies the factory. Moderate and radical workers face each other. A battle begins during which the factory is set on fire and Regina kidnapped.
The Regina is a Swedish model of electric multiple unitpassenger train, manufactured by Bombardier Transportation (formerly ADtranz). It is used by the national passenger railway SJ along with numerous regional and private operators, in variants designated X50, X51, X52, X53, X54 and X55, and in two-, three-, and fourcarriage models. The Regina is wider than other Swedish trains; at 3 450mm, it allows five-across seating, increasing passenger capacity by 25%. The car body is built of stainless steel, with only bolsters and coupler pockets made of mild steel. The length is 54, 80 and 105 m, and the capacity 165-294 seats. A variant of the Regina is used in China as the CRH1.
Top speeds of various models range from 180km/h to 200km/h (112mph to 125mph). As part of the Gröna tåget (‘the green train’) project, a modified Regina set the Swedish rail-speed record of 303km/h (188mph) on 14 September 2008; the goal is to reach 250km/h (155mph) in regular service.
The existing Regina units are short trains built for local and regional service, but in late 2007 it was announced that SJ were ordering twenty units furnished for inter-city service. These trains, designated X55, were delivered during 2011 and 2012, and are used on the routes connecting Stockholm with destinations like Sundsvall, Värmland and Dalarna, allowing the displaced X 2000 units to be used instead to lengthen the busy trains running to Gothenburg and Malmö. These units are four-carriage trains with a first-class section and an on-board bistro; four-across seating. There is an option for another 20 units.
Gustav Albert Lortzing (October 23, 1801 -- January 21, 1851) was a German composer, actor and singer. He is considered to be the main representative of the German Spieloper, a form similar to the French opéra comique, which grew out of the Singspiel.
