Richard Ramirez - The Killer Who Prayed To Satan | True Lives
By the age of 10, heavy metal fan Richard Ramirez was sleeping in cemeteries. He would go on to spread terror throughout Los Angeles, preying on ordinary citizens as they slept in their homes. The drug-fuelled burglar would rape, murder, and mutilate, taking pleasure in making his victims pray to Satan before him. Men, women, children and the elderly all fell victim as the police raced to catch the killer who defied all known theories about serial murder. So, was Richard Ramirez born to kill? Was he warped by drugs? Or, was 'The Night Stalker' schooled in murder during his poor childhood in the tough Texan border town of El Paso?

Episode 1
Two-part documentary about Broadmoor Hospital. Originally built in the Victorian era, it is now a high-security psychiatric hospital and home to the country's most violent offenders. Many of these men have committed appalling crimes and are considered too dangerous to be treated anywhere else. Over the years, they have included Ronnie Kray, Peter Sutcliffe, Charles Bronson, Robert Napper and Kenneth Erskine. All of Broadmoor's inmates suffer from mental disorders, now those that have the capacity to give consent are allowed to tell their stories for the very first time. We meet the men starting their Broadmoor journey, others who are responding well to treatment and some whose lack of cooperation keeps them from moving on. There are also interviews with the staff who have to deal with the hospital's most volatile patients and run a daily risk of assault
Episode 2
Second part of the documentary about Broadmoor, one of the world's most infamous high-security psychiatric hospitals. Founded in 1863, some of the country's most violent offenders are incarcerated here. Many people still think that Broadmoor is the dumping ground for society's most infamous criminals, a final destination which leaves them with no hope of return. Unlike prisoners, they have not been given any fixed sentence and can be held for as long as the hospital and the Ministry of Justice think necessary. In this episode, we meet the men who are preparing to move out of Broadmoor and into medium secure units. This will be their first step on a road which will hopefully lead them back into the community. Their route out is through the hospital's programme of medication and therapy - but can they demonstrate that they are sufficiently recovered and no longer a risk to the public?

In the winter of 2006 the town of Ipswich became home to one of Britain's most infamous Spree Killings. With a reputation for being quiet, reserved and straight laced, no-one suspected 50 year old Steven Wright to be responsible for the murder of five women. Behind closed doors the forklift driver had a history of gambling, various suicide attempts and was harbouring a habit for prostitution use. What he was about to do would shock Britain and see him labelled as the 'Suffolk Strangler.' Moving into the heart of Ipswich's red light district was the perfect opportunity for Wright to lead a double life. Whilst his wife was working night shifts, Wright slipped in to old familiar habits, curb crawling the streets and picking up a string of prostitutes. He built up a relationship with many of the women, becoming a regular customer and gaining their trust. These intimate bonds would lead to fatal consequences. The spree began in October 2006 when the first victim disappeared from the red light district in Ipswich. Within a matter of weeks five women would be reported missing and Suffolk constabulary would be at the centre of a major manhunt. However, it was only a matter of time before Steven Wright became too bold and confident - a single mistake would see DNA evidence link him to the crimes. With insight from those who lived through the crimes, investigated the case and knew him best, this episode explores the story of Steven Wright, and what caused him to embark on his killing spree.

Moving into the heart of Ipswich's red light district was the perfect opportunity for Wright to lead a double life.
