"Being Alive" is a song from the musical Company by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The song appears at the end of Act II and is sung by the main character, Robert, a 35-year-old bachelor who at the show's end “. . . realizes being a lone wolf isn't all it's cracked up to be . . . he declares that he wants to take the chance, be afraid, get his heart broken - or whatever happens when you decide to love and be loved."
“Being Alive” replaced the song “Happily Ever After”, which was cut from Company because it was considered too dark to serve as a closing number. According to cultural critic Jeremy McCarter, Sondheim has never been happy with “Being Alive” as the finale for Company, calling it “a cop-out”.
Angie and Nick start questioning Danny on where he went after the wedding and he tells them he went out drinking. Lynette is keeping her pregnancy secret from the kids. Katherine tells Orson that Mike and Susan's marriage will not last because Mike only feels sorry for Susan, and that he will come back to her. Bree and Karl have sex.
Mrs. McCluskey has acquired a boyfriend, Roy. One day they are strolling on the sidewalk and she tells him she loves him. Just as he is about to respond, he sees Julie Mayer lying in a bunch of bushes.
Everyone tries to figure out who would attack Julie. Karen and Carlos both turn to look at Danny, who is watching from his door step. Carlos thinks it is odd that the Bolens are not outside like the rest of them, Orson then says that they were outside but only for a minute. Carlos reveals that he saw Danny and Julie coming out of a movie theater so they think it is best to get to know them better. Angie and Nick confront Danny about where he was when Julie was strangled, Danny says he has nothing to do with that and he likes Julie. He said he maybe was in the park, he doesn't really remember because he drank a lot and it was very fuzzy, Nick tells Danny that he couldn't have been there because he drove by the park and he didn't see him there. Angie decides that they need to start making friends with the neighbors. Karen is debating on whether she should tell the police that she saw Julie and Danny fighting. Tom, Orson, and Carlos tell Nick they are going to start up a neighborhood watch then question him on Danny's relationship with Julie.

Theater Gone Wrong: Oh, What a Disaster for Raúl Esparza in Evita
…And then he fell.
The major hope of every actor when they get onstage is to sing well and not fall. Unfortunately for Raúl Esparza, the latter half of that sentiment came true in Wisconsin. Back in 1999, the future ''Law & Order: SVU'' star was on tour with the musical ''Evita'', taking on the leading role of Che. Within the first 10 minutes of the show one night, during "Oh, What a Circus," disaster struck while singing as he toppled backwards. Here, he tells us how he managed to crawl his way back to the spotlight.

Verse 1 What is being alive ? To know what we can not To see, what we should not have seen To penetrate the deepest depths And live to tell, the tale Verse 2 What path then should we take ? A long and winding road through paths of bumpy rock and stone or gentle roads of light bereft that pacify, only the blind Interlude Am I worthy of bliss To be wrapped in your wings like this My soul begins to shine Our mind, what is it for if not to ponder, to explore to seek what is beyond the other side Guitar Solo Bridge The pain of wisdom becons us all the price of ignorance lurks in it's call Chorus Being Alive is an Ocean of questions Being Alive is divine intervention Being Alive is the Mother of Mysteries Synth Solo Being Alive is a natural progression Being Alive is our path to redemption
