Robbery is the crime of taking or attempting to take anything of value by force, threat of force, or by putting the victim in fear. According to common law, robbery is defined as taking the property of another, with the intent to permanently deprive the person of that property, by means of force or fear; that is, it is a larceny or theft accomplished by an assault.[1] Precise definitions of the offence may vary between jurisdictions. Robbery is differentiated from other forms of theft (such as burglary, shoplifting, pickpocketing, or car theft) by its inherently violent nature (a violent crime); whereas many lesser forms of theft are punished as misdemeanors, robbery is always a felony in jurisdictions that distinguish between the two. Under English law, most forms of theft are triable either way, whereas robbery is triable only on indictment. The word "rob" came via French from Late Latin words (e.g., deraubare) of Germanic origin, from Common Germanic raub "theft".

Weil Algorithmen schneller und effizienter sind als Menschen. Aber treffen Algorithmen immer bessere Entscheidungen? Und wie sieht eine Gesellschaft aus, in der Big Data und Computercodes die Vorherrschaft übernehmen?
Unternehmen und zunehmend auch Regierungen nutzen Algorithmen, um bürokratische Prozesse zu automatisieren. Diese Algorithmen, welche Anweisungen und Regeln aus Big Data entnehmen, bestimmen immer mehr unser Leben. Der Algorithmus steuert sie - vom Antragsverfahren bis zur Kündigungsanfrage. Wo sollen sie sich beschweren, wenn etwas nicht so läuft, wie es sein sollte?
Auch im Justizwesen macht der Algorithmus nicht Halt. Zum Beispiel musste ein amerikanischer Gefangener länger seine Strafe absitzen als vergleichbare Gefangene, weil der Algorithmus, der einen Risiko-Score festlegt, ein unerklärliches Ergebnis erzielte. Im Gegensatz zu den Entscheidungen eines Richters ist es praktisch unmöglich, die Beurteilung eines Algorithmus in Frage zu stellen. Vor kurzem schien das britische Unternehmen Cambridge Analytica Modelle entwickelt zu haben, die auf großen Facebook-Daten basieren, die das Wahlverhalten der Wähler beeinflussen konnten. Diese Psychographien zeigen, dass Algorithmen nicht nur das individuelle Leben, sondern auch die Demokratie steuern können.
Die Mathematiker und Programmierer beginnen zu erkennen, dass die Algorithmen unter all diesen automatisierten Entscheidungssystemen nicht neutral sind und Fehler enthalten können. Da der Code dann möglicherweise schneller als der Mensch entscheidet, können Ergebnisse nicht nur fehlerhaft, sondern manchmal sogar gefährlich ausfallen.
