The word "West" is a Germanic word passed into some Romance languages (ouest in French, oest in Catalan, ovest in Italian, oeste in Spanish and Portuguese). As is apparent in the Gothic term vasi (Visigoths), it stems from the same Indo-European root that gave the Sanskrit vas-ati (night) and vesper (evening) in Latin.
West is the direction opposite that of the Earth's rotation on its axis, and is therefore the general direction towards which the Sun appears to constantly progress and eventually set.
The city is located in the north-central part of Texas, approximately 70 miles south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, 20 miles north of Waco and 120 miles north of Austin, Texas, the state's capital.
History
The first settlers of northern McLennan County arrived in the 1840s. They were farm and ranch families drawn from the east by the rich lands made available by the government sale of land to build schools in Texas. The area farmers cultivated the land and grew cotton, wheat, and grain sorghum, and raised cattle. The farming community centered around a freshwater spring that became known as Bold Springs. In 1860, Bold Springs had a population of about 300 and provided services such as a blacksmith, churches, and a post office.
The Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad was laid between Hillsboro and Waco in the fall of 1881. The path of the railroad passed through land owned by Thomas West, who had moved to the area in 1859. He farmed land that he had purchased and served as postmaster of Bold Springs. A train depot was built on the land he sold to the railroad company and the land running beside the tracks was divided into small sections and sold to people wanting to start businesses. The new depot included a post office, and from that time forward it was known as the West Post Office. Mr. West served as postmaster and opened the first general store. He became a successful businessman and later owned a hotel, a furniture store, and a bank.
West (also known by its original name, West Publishing) is a American business owned by Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts that publishes legal, business, and regulatory information in print, and on electronic services such as Westlaw. Since the late 19th century, West has been one of the most prominent publishers of legal materials in the United States. Its headquarters is in Eagan, Minnesota; it also has an office in Rochester, New York and had an office in Cleveland, Ohio until 2010 when it was closed. Organizationally, West is part of the global legal division of Thomson Reuters.
West Publishing was founded by John B. West and his brother Horatio in 1872 in St. Paul, Minnesota. It is best known for establishing the National Reporter System, a system of regional reporters, each of which became known for reporting state court appellate decisions within its region. West also reports decisions of the federal Courts of Appeals in the Federal Reporter and of the federal district courts in the Federal Supplement, and retroactively republished the decisions of all lower federal courts predating the NRS in Federal Cases. All these reporters are also part of the NRS, meaning that all cases published therein are annotated with headnotes by West attorney-editors, and all those headnotes are then indexed in the West American Digest System (and its electronic version, KeyCite) for easy cross-referencing.
Amanda was an American television series starring Amanda Randolph which debuted on the DuMont Television Network on November 1, 1948. The ending date for the show is unclear, but it still appears in a TV schedule from October 1949.
Broadcast history
Aired in New York City at 9:45am ET on the DuMont Television Network's flagship station WABD (some sources say the show aired 12noon to 12;15pm ET). The show was a 15-minute daytime music series starring Amanda Randolph, who hosted the program and sang.
The program is significant as one of the first regularly scheduled series to feature an African-American woman as host. On her series she sang songs ranging from spirituals to boogie woogie. According to the book The Forgotten Network (2004), DuMont began offering 4.5 hours of morning and afternoon programming to affiliates in January 1949, but it is not clear which series these were. The series and several other WABD daytime series seem to appear in Pittsburgh schedules (on station WDTV) during 1949, so it may have been shown on a network level.
Amanda Collins (formerly Helen Collins) is one of the main characters of Nikita, portrayed by Melinda Clarke. She is the main antagonist of the third and fourth seasons of Nikita, but more specifically on a personal level with Nikita Mears and Alexandra "Alex" Udinov.
Character
Amanda is the resident psychologist and official manipulator (as well as torturer) of Division. Percy is rumored to have built his entire operation around Amanda's methods and relies on her to get inside people's heads, both during torture and to break them down to believe in Division unconditionally. As an expert manipulator, she can usually tell when people are lying to her and enjoys getting to know the recruits and their secrets. Only two recruits are known to have been able to resist being completely broken by her: Nikita and Alex. Because of this Amanda found herself both fascinated by, and frustrated with the two women.

* The Four Lights * a Winter Song by Amanda West

STORY:
This song was inspired by the Waldorf/Steiner tradition of the 4 weeks of Advent, with each week celebrating/honoring one of the "four kingdoms" ~ mineral, plant, animal, human. Parts of the verses are pulled from quotes attributed to Rudolf Steiner I have found circulating in Waldorf communities during the winter time. In searching for new ways to connect with and honor the winter solstice season that do not include rituals tied to capitalism, I have been deeply moved by this practice. It allows for a different, and more spiritually fulfilling focal point. The song felt like it came from the other realms and is a welcome meditation each time I sing or listen to it. May it brig to you the same peace it brings to me.

INVITATION:
Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can be undisturbed for 10 minutes. Put on a pair of headphones to catch the full spectrum of sound, close your eyes, and listen. With each verse, allow yourself to give thanks for that aspect of our world. Feel those qualities resonate within your deepest Self. Feel your wholeness as you remember your connection to each of these realms. Allow yourself to experience the spiral inward, in which you find at your center, your inner light, returning like the sun of the Winter Solstice.
