Hakob Melik Hakobian (Armenian: Յակոբ Մելիք-Յակոբեան (classical); Հակոբ Մելիք-Հակոբյան (reformed); 1835 - 1888), better known by his pen name Raffi (Armenian: Րաֆֆի; Persian: رافی), was an Armenian author, a prominent figure of 19th century Armenian literature.
Biography
Raffi was the eldest son in a family of hereditary Persian-Armenian gentry and was born in 1835 in Payajuk, a village of northwestern Iran. His father was a wealthy farmer, merchant and the highest civil authority of the village. Thus, Raffi’s economic background and special status within the family eventually made it possible for him to acquire a privileged education, one in which he was exposed to the full spectrum of classical, Russian and Western European masterpieces of literature.
His education began in the home of the village priest, Father Mser. There, in a small room adjacent to the barn, boys of all ages and levels of learning were taught under pressure of corporal punishment for failing in their lessons. In his novel called Kaytser ("Sparks"), Raffi gives a vivid description of these punishments and denounces them. At the age of 12 his father sent him to Tiflis [Tbilisi], at that time a major center of Armenian intellectual life, to continue his secondary education at a boarding school run by a distinguished Armenian teacher.

Danny Chan Kwok-kwan
Danny Chan Kwok-kwan (born 1 August 1975) is a Hong Kong actor, dance choreographer, and lead singer of the rock band, Poet. He is known for resembling Bruce Lee in appearance, and has portrayed Lee in the 2008 television series, The Legend of Bruce Lee, and in the 2015 film, Ip Man 3. Chan is also a practitioner of Jeet Kune Do, the martial art created by Bruce Lee.
Career
Chan started his career as a lead singer for rock band named "Poet". And thereafter Chan played subsequently minor roles in Hong Kong films. Chan first came to prominence for acting in two Hong Kong films directed by Stephen Chow - as the goalkeeper "Empty Hand" in Shaolin Soccer (2001), and as the Axe Gang boss Brother Sum in Kung Fu Hustle (2004). In 2008, due to his resemblance to Bruce Lee in appearance, he was chosen to portray Lee in the biographical television series The Legend of Bruce Lee. Chan reprises his role as Lee in the 2015 film, Ip Man 3, which is loosely based on the life of Lee's mentor.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, to Armenian parents, he spent his early years in Egypt before immigrating with his family to Canada in 1958, eventually settling in Toronto, Ontario. His mother named him after the Armenian poet Raffi. His father Arto Cavoukian was a well-known portrait photographer with a studio on Bloor Street in Toronto. His older brother Onnig Cavoukian, known as "Cavouk", is also a famous portrait photographer. His younger sister is Ann Cavoukian, Ontario's former Information and Privacy Commissioner. His parents died within 12 hours of each other, his mother dying first, of abdominal cancer.

By fan request, we have Raffi's first recordings. These were done as part of the CBC LM-400 series, known for compiling up and coming Canadian artists of the 1970's. This edition (#402) featured: Raffi, Ron Hynes, Roddy Elias Trio and Ray Sikora. Enjoy!
Tracks are earlier, alternate versions of the one's that would turn up on Raffi's debut album "Good Luck Boy" The following year, in 1975.

Raffi Cavoukian, known professionally by the mononym Raffi, is a Canadian singer-lyricist and author. Raffi was born in Cairo, Egypt, on July 4th, 1948 to Armenian parents who fled Turkey during the Armenian genocide. In 1958, his family immigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Toronto, Ontario. His mother named him after the Armenian novelist Raffi. His father, Arto Cavoukian, was a well-known portrait photographer with a studio on Bloor Street in Toronto. His older brother, Onnig Cavoukian, known as Cavouk, is also a famous portrait photographer. His younger sister is Ann Cavoukian, Ontario's former Information and Privacy Commissioner.
Raffi is best known for his children's music but prior to this, did a multi-year stint in Toronto's coffeehouse scene playing folk music. Here, he rubbed elbows with some of Canada's finest folk musicians and rising stars.
He developed his career as a "global troubadour" to become a music producer, author, entrepreneur, and founder of the Raffi Foundation for Child Honoring, a vision for global restoration.

Raffi (novelist)
Hakob Melik Hakobian (Armenian: Յակոբ Մելիք-Յակոբեան (classical); Հակոբ Մելիք-Հակոբյան (reformed); 1835 - 1888), better known by his pen name Raffi (Armenian: Րաֆֆի; Persian: رافی), was an Armenian author, a prominent figure of 19th century Armenian literature.
Biography
Raffi was the eldest son in a family of hereditary Persian-Armenian gentry and was born in 1835 in Payajuk, a village of northwestern Iran. His father was a wealthy farmer, merchant and the highest civil authority of the village. Thus, Raffi’s economic background and special status within the family eventually made it possible for him to acquire a privileged education, one in which he was exposed to the full spectrum of classical, Russian and Western European masterpieces of literature.
His education began in the home of the village priest, Father Mser. There, in a small room adjacent to the barn, boys of all ages and levels of learning were taught under pressure of corporal punishment for failing in their lessons. In his novel called Kaytser ("Sparks"), Raffi gives a vivid description of these punishments and denounces them. At the age of 12 his father sent him to Tiflis [Tbilisi], at that time a major center of Armenian intellectual life, to continue his secondary education at a boarding school run by a distinguished Armenian teacher.
