“A Dictatorial Government!” Labour To ‘Take Brakes Off Britain’ With First King’s Speech
Labour will “take the brakes off Britain” when it unveils its first King’s Speech on Wednesday, Sir Keir Starmer has said.
The new Government is set to present a “packed” legislative agenda focused on improving living standards by driving economic growth, the first of the Prime Minister’s five “missions for national renewal”.
The address – the first Speech from the Throne under a Labour government for 14 years – is expected to contain more than 35 Bills and draft Bills with an emphasis on improving transport, creating jobs and accelerating the building of houses and infrastructure as Labour seeks to escape Britain’s recent cycle of low growth.
Talk’s Dr David Bull is joined by political commentator Trevor Kavanagh.

History of Radio: How Lee De Forest, a Con Artist, Created Radio
Who created radio? Well, Lee de Forest would argue that he did, and he had a point: he created the idea of broadcast radio, some of the first broadcasts, and the vacuum tube! However, it all had to do with his willingness to take other's ideas. This is a crazy story.
The music is by the fabulous Kim Nalley

Lee de Forest Documentary - Hollywood Walk of Fame
Lee de Forest was an American inventor and early pioneer in radio and in the development of sound-on-film recording used for motion pictures. He had over 300 patents worldwide, but also a tumultuous career—he boasted that he made, then lost, four fortunes. He was also involved in several major patent lawsuits, spent a substantial part of his income on legal bills, and was even tried for mail fraud. His most famous invention, in 1906, was the three-element "Audion" vacuum tube, the first practical amplification device. Although de Forest had only a limited understanding of how it worked, it was the foundation of the field of electronics, making possible radio broadcasting, long distance telephone lines, and talking motion pictures, among countless other applications.

Radio Commentator Jean Shepherd Meets Lee De Forest During WW2
While a 17 year old in the Army during World War II, Jean Shepherd who was attending a radio training school, was introduced to Lee De Forest, often described as the inventor of the vacuum tube. Shepherd and a buddy did not know who De Forest was, however. Shepherd describes this episode in a radio broadcast of 5-17-1968, one of his many broadcasts in a career on New York radio that began in the 1950s.
