Radford is an inner-city area of Nottingham, located just outside the city centre itself. It is bounded on the south by Lenton and Nottingham City Centre, and comprises around 600 acres (2.4Â km2) of land.
History
St. Peter's Church, Radford was given by William Peveril to Lenton Priory. The church was rebuilt in 1812 at a cost of £2,000. The Wesleyan chapel, was built in 1805, and enlarged in 1828. In September 1878 a chapel was built on St Peter's Street by the United Methodist Free Churches at a cost of £1,900. It was closed due to declining membership and income in June 1947 and purchased by the Evangelical Free Church.
Radford Registration District (RD) was created on 1 July 1837 on the introduction of Statutary registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths (bmd) - and was abolished, and absorbed into Nottingham RD, on 1 July 1880.
Population by year
1811 - 5,704
1821 - 7,348
1831 - 16,568
1841 - 22,473
1851 - 12,635
1901 - 34,354
Background
The area has a large ethnic minority population (mainly West Indian, African, Asian and increasingly Polish), and accordingly, there is a large number of specialist food and retail shops catering to specific cultures. Due to the relatively cheap nature of housing in the area (and the large number of old Victorian properties converted into flats and bedsits).
Nottingham (i/ˈnɒtɪŋəm/NOT-ing-əm) is a city in Nottinghamshire, England, 30 miles (48 km) south of Sheffield and 30 miles (48 km) north of Leicester.
Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle (notably Raleigh bikes) and tobacco industries. It was granted its city charter in 1897 as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a tourist destination; in 2011, visitors spent over £1.5 billion - the thirteenth highest amount in England's 111 statistical territories.
The Britishspace rock group Hawkwind have been active since 1969, but their earliest video release is Night Of The Hawk from their Earth Ritual Tour recorded at Ipswich on 9 March 1984. Since then, there have been numerous video releases covering the evolution of the band; some are professional broadcast shoots, others commercial, and a few are amateur.
There have also been some live video shoots of the band during the 1970s, although none have seen a commercial release. These include an early 12 April 1970 The Roundhouse, London performance and a Hawklords performance at Brunel University, Uxbridge on 24 November 1978.
The Hawkestra event, a reunion featuring appearances from all past and present members on 21 October 2000 at the Brixton Academy, was professionally filmed but disputes between band members would indicate any forthcoming release unlikely.
Nottingham was a parliamentary borough in Nottinghamshire, which elected two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons from 1295. In 1885 the constituency was abolished and the city of Nottingham divided into three single-member constituencies.
History
Nottingham sent two representatives to Parliament from 1283 onwards.
The constituency was abolished in 1885 and replaced by Nottingham East, Nottingham South and Nottingham West.

1295–1640
1640–1885

Poorest Cities in the UK – Nottingham
Why is Nottingham so poor? Oh, my Nottingham! So we wish to exclaim. Alas! Salvos being fired from both sides of the divide hasn’t given us a cause for exultation in Nottingham. Can you count the number of times Nottingham has been named the poorest city in the UK within 7 years? There is definitely some requiring attention in and about this city. Oh you who dislike Nottingham, please know that you haven’t found support in this video. And you enthusiastic admirers of this city, we’re not out here now to increase your fan base. As usual, we would look at the available facts regardless of fervent rebuffs of figures by the city officials, and serve you nothing but the truth.
Figures in Public Domain
Let's peep into what available data reveals about Nottingham's situation. We start with figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Nottingham’s gross disposable household income (GDHI) is the lowest in the UK. According to the last available figures, the average yearly after-tax earnings in the city is 12,445 pounds. With that amount, residents of Nottingham resident's earnings are over 7,000 pounds less than the national average. Those who consider this alone will be justified in their assertion that Nottingham is one of the poorest cities.
The employment rate also doesn’t bode well for the city. According to the last available figures, only 57 percent of all Nottingham’s 16 to 64-year-olds are at work. This is the lowest employment rate of all major cities in the United Kingdom. This is one of the reasons the city is the poorest of 179 areas across the country. But when you look at the overall scores, Nottingham isn’t just at the bottom, it’s so far behind the rest.
As expected, this breeds crime, the rate of which has increased across the region. We all know that there’s a close link between deprivation and poverty and crime. While explaining his decision to establish the Nottingham School of Boxing in the city, Marcellus Baz, of Sneinton, a repentant gang member said that he saw there were many areas of deprivation in the city and he wanted to get the youth there to work.
Council’s Rejection
This appears to be a kind of indictment of the city council. We, therefore, understand it keeps rejecting the ranking giving a lot of reasons. Well, this is not an isolated response. This has always been the position of Nottingham’s council. One of the reasons given by the council is that it has many affluent suburbs that aren’t captured in the figures as part of the city's official boundaries. For that reason, the results, they said, have been skewed by geography. The council further states that based on its own calculation, the figure that would truly represent the city’s situation is 16,000 pounds per person once affluent suburbs like West Bridgford and Beeston have been included.
The council believes that Nottingham would move up to the 56th position of the UK districts if the places where people have more disposable income are included in the city figures. It claims that more than half of the people employed in Nottingham City live in surrounding districts.
Also, the city council always blamed the unusually high student in the city for the low ranking. As usual, the council says the city’s apparent poor economic performance is a result of 46,000 students who are less likely to be in full-time or well-paid forms of employment. According to the council, the figures of these people have diluted those of the individuals in well-paid and highly-skilled jobs who live in more prosperous adjoining boroughs.

Recorded live at the Gaumont Theatre, Ipswich in spring 1984 this superb film of the 'Hawks' features their most eccentric of front men Nik Turner in fine form. Resembling a creation from one of Dr.Who's least convincing episodes, Turner wanders around the stage like a maniac, motormouthing his way through what is a truly impressive set of some of Hawkwind's best material. The additional lasergraphics and wild editing could not have been more suitable. Prepare yourself for an audio/visual Brainstorm.

The story goes that, according to British law, any festival that runs successfully for 13 consecutive years enters the statute books under an ancient charter and becomes a public festival for all time. The Summer Solstice of 1984 marked the twelfth anniversary of the Stonehenge free festival. Headlining the show were space rockers Hawkwind. As usual the festival was a peaceful affair, attracting thousands of freedom loving folk in search of loud music, good fun and mind-altering substances. Fast-forward twelve months and it was an entirely different story. The authorities launched a massive operation, moving in with force to prevent the festival from happening, resulting in the fencing off of Britain's most famous ancient ...

Fortune would have it that home-video pioneers Jetisoundz had arranged to record the events of the 21st June 1984. The film features Hawkwind's improvised performance of 'Ritual of Light and Dark' on the eve of the Solstice which continued after dawn, following the celebrated invasion of the Stones. In spite of the laid back party ambience this remains one of the bands most poignant sets in their thirty odd year career.
The classic line up of Dave Brock, Nik Turner, Harvey Bainbridge, Huw Lloyd-Langton, Alan Davy and Danny Thompson makes this recording all the more important. 'The Solstice at Stonehenge' is by far the most historically significant of Hawkwind's audio/visual output and should be cherished by fans, collectors and the curious alike. Love and peace!!!

Hawkwind's classic stage production of 'The Chronicle of the Black Sword' as performed at London's Hammersmith Odeon 1985. Based on the 'Elric' stories by Michael Moorcock

Hawkwind launch a Sonic Attack on the singles chart with a little help from Brian Blessed!
It’s the musical collaboration we never knew we needed, until now! Legendary space rockers HAWKWIND have teamed up with kingly thespian Brian Blessed for a brand new single version of ‘Sonic Attack!’
When Hawkwind decided to recreate their classic Space Ritual show of 1972, for one night only, at the London’s Shepherds Bush Empire in February 2014, the venerable group donated all proceeds to animal charities including Team Badger – of which Brian Blessed is a patron. It was a gig that set the wheels in motion for a storming new partnership.
The accompanying video was created by long time Hawkwind artist Martin McGuiness.
This powerful addition to the Hawkwind canon is available from 1st September 2014. Pre-order the single now to help Brian and Hawkwind break the Top 40!

HAWKWIND hawks

Recorded live at the Gaumont Theatre, Ipswich in spring 1984 this superb film of the 'Hawks' features their most eccentric of front men Nik Turner in fine form. Resembling a creation from one of Dr.Who's least convincing episodes, Turner wanders around the stage like a maniac, motormouthing his way through what is a truly impressive set of some of Hawkwind's best material. The additional lasergraphics and wild editing could not have been more suitable. Prepare yourself for an audio/visual Brainstorm.

HAWKWIND 1984 Solstice at stonehenge
04 watching the grass grow
The story goes that, according to British law, any festival that runs successfully for 13 consecutive years enters the statute books under an ancient charter and becomes a public festival for all time. The Summer Solstice of 1984 marked the twelfth anniversary of the Stonehenge free festival. Headlining the show were space rockers Hawkwind. As usual the festival was a peaceful affair, attracting thousands of freedom loving folk in search of loud music, good fun and mind-altering substances. Fast-forward twelve months and it was an entirely different story. The authorities launched a massive operation, moving in with force to prevent the festival from happening, resulting in the fencing off of Britain's most famous ancient monument and an end to the free festival.
