The Unfair Matches of the Roman Colosseum
Let's delve into some of the most lopsided and controversial contests that took place in ancient Rome's most infamous arena. This video explores a variety of matchups, starting with the blindfolded fighters, known as Andabatae, who faced their foes without the advantage of sight. We'll then navigate the waters of the naval battles, staged for the thrill of spectators and the demise of combatants. The brutality of gladiator fights is contrasted with the ferocious spectacle of animal vs animal encounters, showcasing the cruel variety of entertainments devised by the Romans. Witness the unlikely duels of one gladiator versus two, and the curious clashes of women against dwarfs, a matchup staged for Emperor Domitian's twisted amusement. The video also covers wild animal hunts, man vs beast con...

A 1-minute public speaking lesson from the Colosseum in Rome
In June 2021, I had speaking engagements in Rome and Turin, Italy. While in Rome, I managed a bit of sightseeing, including a walk to the Colosseum. I imagined all the battles that the gladiators fought there centuries ago. It was a matter of life and death.
It’s not the same with public speaking. If you give enough speeches or presentations, there will be times when things go wrong. But you will live to “fight” another day. Remember that. Learn from your mistakes and get ready for the next time you enter the arena!
If you want more tips and insights on public speaking, please visit my website, Manner of Speaking: https://mannerofspeaking.org. There, you will find hundreds of posts on every aspect of public speaking and presentation skills.
