The Solomon Islands Liberal Party is a political party in the Solomon Islands, which was led by Bartholomew Ulufa'alu from its founding in 1988 until Ulufa’alu’s death in May 2007. Prior to the 1997 elections it formed the Solomon Islands Alliance for Change along with several other parties. The alliance won the 1997 elections with 26 out of 50 seats and Ulufa’alu became prime minister.
Tensions between the indigenous population of Guadalcanal and immigrants from Malaita led to the captivity of Ulufa'alu by Malaitese guerrillas of the Malaita Eagle Force in June 2000. After several days of captivity, he resigned .
At the legislativeelections, 5 December 2001, the alliance won 12 out of 50 seats.
At the legislativeelections on 5 April 2006, the parties of the Alliance for Change won about 12 seats and the Liberal Party itself won 5.0% and 2 seats.
The party was formed in 1927 by a group of MPs sitting under the Independence Party name. In 1923 the original Independence Party had allied with former members of the dissolved Home Rule Party to form the Citizens' Party. Most members formed the Conservative Party the following year, with the remainder remaining under the Independence Party name.
In 1929 the party merged with the Conservatives to establish the new Independence Party.
Gare du Palais (‘Palace Station’) is a train and bus station in Quebec City, Canada. Its name comes from its proximity to the Palace of the Intendant of New France. It is served by Via Rail, Canada’s national passenger railway, and by the private coach company Orléans Express.
The Quinebaug Mill was built by Amos D. Lockwood starting in 1851 on the Quinebaug River, near the site of an 1820 Tiffany Mill. The Quinebaug Mill became one of the largest and most complete cotton mills in Connecticut by the end of the 19th century. Most of the mill was destroyed by fire, but the weave shed and the houses for workers survived. The housing area, which dates back from 1881, was rebuilt as low-cost housing in 1984 and contains six brick row houses, each containing eight apartments, surrounding a green space.
The film was actually shot on location in Quebec, in the fashion typical of post-warHollywood. It captured therefore local sights like the Citadelle of Quebec City, Montmorency Falls and the Quebec countryside. It also cast local actors.Quebec also features Patsy Ruth Miller, a former silent-screen star making her first screen appearance since 1931.
The film tells the tale of Mme. Stephanie Durossac, also known as Lafleur (played by Corinne Calvet), a fiery pro-independence leader, and Mark Douglas (Barrymore), a young man who discovers that Lafleur is his long-lost mother he believed to be deceased. The actions of Lafleur create problems since she is also the wife of the British governor of the province. Lafleur ultimately sacrifices herself to prevent Douglas from being taken hostage. The climax of the movie depicts a military assault on the British fortress.
“It's not about finding a leader,” says Madwa-Nika Cadet, who helped put together a report by the Quebec Liberal Party with the goal of rebuilding their image. Swidda Rassy reports.
