Luxembourg City
Luxembourg City is a nice and interesting town in the small country that borders to Belgium, France and Germany. The city got lots of history that can be experienced around town, especially in the old quarters of Grund and around Place d'Armes. The lively market Marchés et brocantes by the Luxembourg City Hall is a nice visit. After a dinner at the Place d'Armes square head towards Grand Ducal Palace where you’ll find a lot of nice options for nightlife with bars and clubs.

10 Things To Do In Luxembourg City | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Well, welcome to Luxembourg! The only Grand Duchy in the world. Over the next few days we're going to be exploring the capital of Luxembourg City and this is going to be a little city guide to show you some of the highlights.
Located smack dab in between Germany, France, and Belgium, the little Grand Duchy of Luxembourg can be easy to miss if you're not looking carefully, however, we're of the opinion that this is a beautiful destination that you'll definitely want to make time for. From picturesque neighbourhoods with cream coloured walls, to dazzling views of blue rooftops in the Old Town below, Luxembourg City is a charming destination that you'll want to add to your European itinerary.
So this hear is the Corniche and it is a pedestrian promenade which has been called the most beautiful balcony in all of Europe because it gets some spectacular views of the old town.
So we are now entering the Bock Casemates and apparently this was the old fortification of Luxemborg and it was known as the Gibraltar of the north.
This was once one of the most envied fortresses in all of Europe.
Right now we're visiting the Three Towers which are remnants of an old fortress.
We've been walking around a neighborhood called the Grund which is directly below the city center. And it is really picturesque and without tourists.
So behind me we have Saint Michael's church which is the oldest church in Luxembourg. The first church to be built on this spot dates back to the year 987, however, the church was destroyed, rebuilt, and renovated many times over the centuries.
The Palace houses the Grand Duke's office and during the summer months.
There is no shortage of museums in Luxembourg City, so we took some time to visit the National Museum of Art and History.
We are now looking at the Passerelle which is Luxembourg's very own viaduct.
So we are now standing in William Square which is a really popular spot on Sundays and Wednesdays because local vendors setup shop and they sell all kinds of things from fresh produce, to flowers, street snacks.
So final thoughts of Luxembourg. Alright, to wrap things up here it was a really cool city. It is the type of city that you can explore in just one or two days. A weekend type of destination because a lot of the attractions are nearby one another. And we just found it a very easy city to get around in on foot.
So as a little travel tip if you're planning on being in the city for a few days we really recommend the Luxembourg Card. This is what we used while we were here and it is really good for public transportation across the city. Across the country actually and you also get access to seventy different galleries, museums, historic attractions and it is not that expensive. I mean it depends on whether you get a family or an individual card but we really recommend it because we made a lot of use of it.
Our visit to Luxembourg City was short and sweet, but we hope this video gave you a little taste of what it's like. Now it's your turn: have you ever been to Luxembourg? If so, feel free to share some of your tips in the comments below.

This is part of our Travel in Luxembourg series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Luxembourg culture, Luxembourg foods & Luxembourg cuisine.

Last but no least a summary from this website:
"An international and multicultural labour market"
To get a sense of what a global society looks like, just visit Luxembourg, one of the most cosmopolitan countries in the world. Almost 50% of Luxembourg’s population is made up of foreigners originating from more than 170 nationalities, and speaking no less than 80 languages.
Like its population, Luxembourg’s labour market is highly international and multilingual.
Around 70% of the country’s workforce is composed of foreigners. Luxembourg’s large multinational community with like-minded people makes singles and families feel welcome and enables them to make new friends quickly and easily. While the country has three officially recognised languages (Luxembourgish, French and German), English is widely spoken.
Numerous multinational companies have decided to install their worldwide or European headquarters in Luxembourg alongside local well-known companies. The University of Luxembourg ranks among the most international universities in the world.
"A thriving economy attracting talents from all over the world"
On top of being a vibrant financial centre and home to several European institutions, Luxembourg relies on highly skilled talents to fuel a data driven, circular and sustainable economy.
Key business sectors also include Space Technologies, Life Sciences, Automotive, Clean Technologies, Fintech and Logistics, all highly connected to and dependent on ongoing best-in-class ICT developments. Add to this a flourishing start-up community, a booming construction industry as well as a highly developed service sector and you start to understand why Luxembourg is such an attractive location for companies and employees alike.
Due to the size of the country, Luxembourg has a long tradition of attracting talents from abroad. Luxembourg is ranked second in the world for attraction of talents and is a world leader in highly skilled employment.
"A stable and safe environment for working and living"
The Luxembourg economy has been growing steadily, continuously outperforming the EU average with an employment increase of over 50% during the past 15 years. Luxembourg also enjoys one of the highest GDP per capita in the world.
Consistently ranking among the safest places, Luxembourg has a strong social cohesion, a first-rate healthcare system, attractive social benefits and a favourable tax regime for highly skilled profiles. Moreover, nearly 90% of current jobs are covered by permanent contracts.
"A great Work Life balance"
Luxembourg is also a wonderful country for leisure and sporting activities. Scenic landscapes make hiking, cycling and enjoying the outdoors fun and a great way to unwind. Enjoy the vibrant nightlife, visit a concert at the “Philharmonie” with its internationally renowned performances. Not forgetting the various world famous bands who come and perform in concert. Luxembourg is also a great place to raise children. The country has a large network of international schools and day-care facilities. It is normal for children to learn 3 + languages at school enabling them to develop in a truly international setting.
"A short look at the most important statistics on the Luxembourg labour market."
The Luxembourg labour market is characterized by an international and multicultural working environment, an exceptional rate of foreign and multilingual labour force, a predominance of the tertiary sector and an unemployment rate below the European average.
"Residence and work permits for EU citizens"
All EU citizens, as well as members of their family (in case they are also EU citizens) enjoy freedom of movement within the EU, which gives them the right to work, study and reside in any EU Member State, subject to certain conditions.
EU citizens wishing to stay for more than 90 days must declare their arrival and register at their local municipality. They must also complete a registration form in the same commune within three months of their arrival in Luxembourg.
"Residence and work permits for third-country nationals"
Every third-country national (i.e. a national from a country which is not an EU Member State or a country treated as such - Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) requires an authorisation to stay in the form of a residence and work permit.
A third-country national who wishes to come to Luxembourg to work for a period of more than 3 months, must follow a two-steps procedure:

Luxembourg Capital City Walking Tour (with Subtitles) / History & Culture [HD]

Luxembourg City, the capital of the only Grand Duchy in the world, will surprise you with its myriad delights. Rarely will you find a country in Europe where so many cultures, mentalities and languages act in accordance and perfect harmony. With its stunning blend of theatre and museums, UNESCO World Heritage sites, architectural jewels and Michelin-rated gastronomy, the capital city of Luxembourg is one of the most unique experiments in harmonious diversity.
Founded in the year 963, the Old City of Luxembourg turned a rock into a legendary fortress among the most powerful in Europe of the 16th century. The 17th century saw the creation of the famous casemates, subterranean vaulted spaces for refuge during military attacks. Despite the dismantling of this spectacular defence complex in the 19th century, the most visually arresting parts of the fortress have survived and can be visited during your travel to Luxembourg City. The fortress and the Old City are listed as World Heritage by UNESCO since 1994.
Whilst the Luxembourg fortress was a true textbook example of European military architecture, it has changed hands many times over its existence. Italian, Spanish, Belgian, French, Austrian, Dutch and Prussian engineers have been involved in progressively extending the fortifications of this stronghold. Traces of their work remain, and what traces! An extraordinary network of 23km of underground galleries, the famous casemates, which were carved from the city’s rocks constitute the city’s main attraction. The Grand-Duke’s residence, the Grand-Ducal palace, has an exceptionally beautiful facade in Flemish Renaissance style (16th century), and a majestic interior and ceremonial rooms open to the public during the summer only. In the Notre-Dame Cathedral, 17th century rood screen contrasts with the 20th century windows. The medieval houses in the outlying areas harmoniously blend with the avant-garde architecture of the Kirchberg plateau, the European institution area.
European capital - The cradle of Europe
Luxembourg has always held a privileged position in the process of European integration. Since the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in 1952, several European institutions have set up in the capital. The birthplace of one of the fathers of Europe, Robert Schuman, Luxembourg has the vocation of playing the role of one of the European capitals not only due to its geographical situation right in the heart of Europe, but also due to its multilingualism. Cosmopolitan and welcoming, with a population made up of almost 170 different nationalities, the city is a real economic, social and cultural melting-pot.
Besides Brussels and Strasbourg, the capital city of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of the three European cities hosting the most important European institutions. Luxembourg houses the General Secretariat of the European Parliament, the European Investment Bank, as well as the Court of Justice and the European Court of Auditors.
Flourishing setting for culture
In Luxembourg, the museums appear in ceremonial garb. The Luxembourg City History Museum retraces the high points of the over one thousand years of history of a European city with human dimensions whilst the National Museum of History and Art hosts one of the most beautiful Roman mosaics north of the Alps. The permanent and temporary exhibitions of the National Museum of Natural History natur musée fascinate adults and children whilst modern art-lovers should head to the Casino Luxembourg Forum of Contemporary Art. The Museum of Modern Art Grand-Duc Jean MUDAM is one of the most ambitious architectural and cultural projects ever undertaken in the Grand Duchy. The Chinese American architect Ieoh Ming Pei came up with, designed then transformed the Thüngen fort, a highly strategic military location at the time in a strategic location for artistic creation. Close to the MUDAM is the Philharmonie, another architectural gem on the Kirchberg plateau which hosts some of the most prestigious musical groups. The city’s Grand Théâtre hosts and coproduces operas, musical, dance shows and plays in French, German and English. Throughout the seasons, the city of Luxembourg offers a range of colourful concerts and festivals, from Printemps musical (music in the springtime), via the festival for unity Summer in the City and the Indian summer Live at Vauban to Winterlights, whilst Schueberfouer, one of the biggest funfairs in Europe attracts over 2 million visitors every year.

Luxembourg: Poverty in Europe's wealthiest country | DW Documentary
Luxembourg is seen as an oasis of luxury in Europe, but poverty and homelessness are on the rise. While the government has done little to respond here, NGOs are doing what they can to combat the most extreme levels of hardship.
Luxembourg is a financial hub and home to the European Court of Justice as well as countless shell companies. And with the highest per capita GDP anywhere in the world, the country is also known for its wealth and luxury. But there's a different, lesser-known side to the grand duchy. Alexandra Oxacelay is with "Stëmm vun der Strooss,” an NGO dedicated to taking care of people who are homeless and socially vulnerable. The soup kitchen run by this charity is seeing a growing number of people searching for shelter, a hot meal and support. One of them is Stephan from H...

Did you know that people looking for a Luxembourg work visa are based on a good gross domestic product? In terms of population, they are less than other European countries. Both their finances and economy are thriving which has attracted many foreigners for Luxembourg work visas. Without this visa, no foreigner may be able to work in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg is a multilingual country that offers benefits to both nationals and foreign workers. As the total population is not high, the process of getting a good paying job comes easily. Applicants or candidates seeking a work visa are advised to a...

Why do people purposefully steer clear of Luxembourg?
The country ranks pretty high when talking about the standards of living. The quality of life is great, and a lot of the locals live there comfortably.
But, surprisingly, there are several reasons why many people simply don’t move to Luxembourg, and today, we’ll look at ten reasons why this happens.

One of them is Stephan from Hungary, who's spent the last seven years living in a tent - even during winter. Alexandra has also noticed an increase in the number of "working poor,” or people struggling to make ends meet despite having a job. Serge Kappel suffers from chronic inflammatory back pain and has been unable to find an apartment he can afford due to a dramatic increase in rental costs. Researcher Antoine Paccoud attributes this to rampant speculation on the real estate market and insufficient funding for social housing. Alexandra can at least provide affordable housing for some people in need. But that help is limited when compared to the growing number of Luxembourgers and refugees who have become dependent on the NGO while living in the shadows of high-profile office buildings.
Poverty in Luxembourg has become an increasingly divisive issue. Yannick Wirtz, who is out of work, feels let down by the government and says there should be greater restrictions on immigration. Whereas NGO director Alexandra Oxacelay refuses to discriminate when it comes to the disadvantaged - insisting that in the wealthiest country in Europe, everyone deserves to be helped.

Let us take you on a trip to Luxembourg, a tiny little country that borders Germany, Belgium and France. In the capital, which is also called Luxembourg, we asked locals for their top travel tips.
In Luxembourg, they speak German, French, and Luxembourgish – luckily, we're up for it language-wise 🤓.

Applicants or candidates seeking a work visa are advised to apply for a work permit before traveling to Luxembourg. Be careful while submitting the work permit application to avoid fraud.
