Quartermaster

Quartermaster is a military or naval term, the meaning of which depends on the country and service.

In land armies, a quartermaster is generally a relatively senior soldier who supervises stores and distributes supplies and provisions.

In many navies, quartermaster is a non-commissioned officer (petty officer) rank. In some navies, it is not a rank but a role related to navigation.

The term appears to derive from the title of a German royal official, the Quartiermeister. This term meant "master of quarters" (where "quarters" means lodging/accommodation). The term was then adopted by some European armies and navies. The first use in English was as a naval term, entering English via the equivalent French and Dutch naval titles quartier-maître and kwartier-meester in the fifteenth century. The term began to refer to army officers in English around 1600.

Land armies

For land armies, the term was first coined in Germany as Quartiermeister and initially denoted a court official with the duty of preparing the monarch's sleeping quarters. In the 17th century, it started to be used in various militaries in the sense of organizing supplies.

Quartermaster Award (Boy Scouts of America)

The Quartermaster Award is the highest rank attainable in the Sea Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.

Award

The award consists of a medal suspended from a blue ribbon; the ribbon is suspended from a silver colored bar bearing the design of a double carrick bend knot. The medal is a silver ship's wheel with a compass inscribed inside the wheel and bearing the Sea Scouting emblem consisting of the universal BSA insignia superimposed on an anchor.

The blue stands for the loyalty to country; the compass suggests the importance of a carefully chosen direction in life; the wheel reminds Sea Scouts that they are the guides of their own future; the anchor reminds the Sea Scout that a truly worthy life must be anchored in duty to God.

The badge is a cloth patch bearing the wheel and compass emblem on a red background with a white border. Recipients may wear the corresponding square knot insignia, with a blue knot on a white background on the BSA uniform.

Captain Jack Sparrow

Captain Jack Sparrow is one of the main protagonists of the series, portrayed by Johnny Depp. First introduced in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), he later appears in the sequels Dead Man's Chest (2006), At World's End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). Originally conceived as a supporting character, Jack Sparrow was brought to life by actor Johnny Depp, who based his characterization on The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and cartoon character Pepé Le Pew. He insists on being introduced as "Captain" Jack Sparrow.

Sparrow is one of the Brethren Court, the Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas, acting as Pirate Lord of the Caribbean. He can be treacherous and survives mostly by using wit and negotiation rather than weapons or force, preferring to flee most dangerous situations and fight only when necessary. Sparrow is introduced seeking to regain his ship, the Black Pearl, from his mutinous first mate, Hector Barbossa, and attempts to escape his blood debt to the legendary Davy Jones while battling the East India Trading Company. He is attracted to four women throughout the series, Elizabeth Swann, Angelica, Scarlet, and Giselle. During Dead Man's Chest, Elizabeth realized she was attracted to Jack. Fearing that she would betray Will, she literally "drowned" her guilt by a single kiss. She is currently the only character to kill Jack Sparrow.

Quartermaster

Quartermaster is a military or naval term, the meaning of which depends on the country and service.

In land armies, a quartermaster is generally a relatively senior soldier who supervises stores and distributes supplies and provisions.

In many navies, quartermaster is a non-commissioned officer (petty officer) rank. In some navies, it is not a rank but a role related to navigation.

The term appears to derive from the title of a German royal official, the Quartiermeister. This term meant "master of quarters" (where "quarters" means lodging/accommodation). The term was then adopted by some European armies and navies. The first use in English was as a naval term, entering English via the equivalent French and Dutch naval titles quartier-maître and kwartier-meester in the fifteenth century. The term began to refer to army officers in English around 1600.

Land armies

For land armies, the term was first coined in Germany as Quartiermeister and initially denoted a court official with the duty of preparing the monarch's sleeping quarters. In the 17th century, it started to be used in various militaries in the sense of organizing supplies.
