A prime minister is the most senior minister of cabinet in the executive branch of government, often in a parliamentary or semi-presidential system. In many systems, the prime minister selects and may dismiss other members of the cabinet, and allocates posts to members within the government. In most systems, the prime minister is the presiding member and chairman of the cabinet. In a minority of systems, notably in semi-presidential systems of government, a prime minister is the official who is appointed to manage the civil service and execute the directives of the head of state.
In parliamentary systems fashioned after the Westminster system, the prime minister is the presiding and actual head of government and head of the executive branch. In such systems, the head of state or the head of state's official representative (i.e. the monarch, president, or governor-general) usually holds a largely ceremonial position, although often with reserve powers.
The prime minister is often, but not always, a member of parliament and is expected with other ministers to ensure the passage of bills through the legislature. In some monarchies the monarch may also exercise executive powers (known as the royal prerogative) that are constitutionally vested in the crown and may be exercised without the approval of parliament.
The President of the Government of Spain (Spanish:Presidente del Gobierno), formally known by English-speaking nations and formally translated by the European Commission Directorate-General in English as Prime Minister is the head of Government of Spain. The current office is established under the Constitution of 1978.
The King of Spain nominates a candidate for the presidency who stands before the Congress of Deputies of Spain, the lower house of the Cortes Generales (parliament), for a vote of confidence in a process known as a parliamentarian investiture, effectively an indirect election of the head of government by the elected Congress of Deputies. In practice, the Prime Minister is almost always the leader of the largest party in the Congress. Since current constitutional practice in Spain calls for the King to act on the advice of his ministers, the Prime Minister is effectively the country's chief executive.

Romania is one of the world's largest wine producers and sixth largest among European countries – in 2015 it produced around 4.069 million hectolitres of wine. In recent years, Romania has attracted many European business people and wine buyers, due to the affordable prices of both vineyards and wines compared to other wine producing nations such as France, Germany, and Italy.
Romania has one of the oldest wine making traditions in the world, its viticulture dating back more than 6,000 years. Due to the hot dry summers, the location proved to be successful and the grape vineyards thrived. Since the medieval times, wine has been the traditional alcoholic beverage of the Romanians.

French President Emmanuel Macron pledged Thursday that he would name a new prime minister within days, railed against the far-right and left factions that brought down the government and ruled out resigning early himself. The president promised to tap a candidate “in the coming days,” after Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government became the first to be toppled by a no-confidence vote in six decades. It will be tricky to find a candidate who could command enough support from lawmakers in a bitterly polarized landscape.

The head of government is either the highest or second highest official in the executive branch of a sovereign state, a federated state, or a self-governing colony, autonomous region, or other government who often presides over a cabinet, a group of ministers or secretaries who lead executive departments. "Head of government" is often differentiated from "head of state" (as in article 7 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, article 1 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents and the United Nations protocol list),[1][2][3] as they may be separate positions, individuals, or roles depending on the country.
The authority of a head of government, such as a president, chancellor, or prime minister and the relationship between that position and other state institutions, such as the relation between the head of state and of the legislature, varies greatly among sovereign states, depending largely on the particular system of the government that has been chosen, won, or evolved over time.
In most parliamentary systems, including constitutional monarchies, the head of government is the de facto political leader of the government, and is answerable to at least one chamber of the legislature. Although there is often a formal reporting relationship to a head of state, the latter usually acts as a figurehead who may take the role of chief executive on limited occasions, either when receiving constitutional advice from the head of government or under specific provisions in a constitution.

Benjamin Netanyahu has become Israel’s first sitting prime minister to testify as a criminal defendant – having taken to the witness stand in his long-running corruption trial.
Claiming that he has been “waiting eight years for this moment” the 75-year-old prime minister started what will be a number of appearances in the courtroom in the coming weeks. He will answer to charges of fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three separate cases.
He is testifying as Israel is engaged in a war in Gaza and facing possible new threats posed by regional turmoil, including in Syria.

Donald Trump mocked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over his top minister’s surprise resignation — after the pair clashed on how to handle the president-elect’s looming tariffs.
Trump jumped on Trudeau’s waning popularity and troubles after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland quit Monday night, with the president-elect labeling his Canadian counterpart “Governor,” referencing a previous joke about the US annexing its northern neighbor.
“The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau,” Trump posted on Truth Social Monday night.
“Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed!!!”

Liechtenstein, the world's fifth least populated democracy, is a country whose citizenship is sought after yet very exclusive. All of its adult citizens must vote, some of its citizens pass laws, and only one has the power to change it all. What makes Liechtenstein and its Liechtensteiners so different?

Media reports have for the first time named 18 Indians who allegedly have stashed away almost 40 crore rupees between 2002 and 2004 in Liechtenstein bank. In fact, the list also mentions the money that they currently owe the government. Sources say that attempts have already begun to get 17 of these 18 to pay up. This comes on the day the panel on black money set up by the finance minister met for the first time. Download the Times Now India's Election HQ app and get all the election info at one go.
In this series I will try to shine light to the political development in some of the countries not as prominently covered in the media outside the region. In this fourth clip I focus on the nations of Southern Europe (Cyprus, Greece, San Marino, Italy, Vatican City, Malta, Monaco, Andorra, Spain and Portugal) and their prime ministers, governments and political parties.
