"Poor Boy" was a song written by Tim Finn and recorded by Split Enz for their 1980 True Colours album. It was released as a single in the UK only.
The song
The lyrics concerned a young man who had fallen in love with a girl on another planet, who he had only discovered existed when tuning his radio, and his regret that they will never meet face to face. In place of a sung chorus, the song made use of an ethereal keyboard solo by Eddie Rayner.
Cultural references
In 2009 a Melbourne Theatre Company production of the same name redeveloped the song's themes, with the other-worldly character presented as the ghost of a car accident.
"Poor Boy" is a song by Enzso, released as the first single from their album Enzso. With the B-sides "I See Red", which is available on the album, and "Albert of India".
The song is track number 5 from their 1974 album Eldorado and tells the story of the Dreamer on the hill fantasising he is one of Robin Hood's merry men, this forms the fourth dream.
"A Robin Hood type character who actually maid Marion."Jeff Lynne (2001 - Eldorado Remaster)
It was released as the second single A-side from Eldorado in The Netherlands, but failed to chart.
The song was used as the B-side for "Telephone Line" in the US, and in the UK the song was joined with "King of the Universe" on the flip side.
The version performed on their concert film, "Fusion – Live in London" uses the last couple of seconds, 2:27 - 2:57, reprise of "Eldorado Overture", as used for the ending of side 1 of the album.
The Nashville Teens are an English rock band, formed in Surrey in 1962. They are best known for their 1964 hit single 'Tobacco Road', a top 10 UK hit and a top 20 hit in the United States.
History
Art Sharp (born Arthur Sharp, 26 May 1941, Woking, Surrey), began his career in music as the manager of Aerco Records in Woking, Surrey. The group's line-up eventually comprised singers Sharp and Ray Phillips (born Ramon John Philips, 16 January 1939, Tiger Bay, Cardiff, South Wales), with former Cruisers Rock Combo members John Hawken (piano), Mick Dunford (lead guitar) (born Michael Dunford, 8 July 1944, Addlestone, Surrey died November 20, 2012, Surrey), Pete Shannon (born Peter Shannon Harris, August 23, 1941, Antrim, County Antrim, Northern Ireland) (bass) and Dave Maine (drums). Roger Groome replaced Maine shortly afterwards but was in turn replaced by Barry Jenkins in 1963, in which year a third vocalist, Terry Crowe (born Terence Crowe, 1941, Woking, Surrey), joined briefly and Dunford left, to be replaced by John Allen (born John Samuel Allen, 23 April 1945, St Albans, Hertfordshire). (Crowe and Dunford formed 'The Plebs' with Danny McCulloch and were re-united with Hawken in Renaissance in 1970). There was also another member, Derek Gentle (vocals), who was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 1962 and had to leave the band. He subsequently died in June 1963.

It won't work, poor boy, don't you try again Fate took away your love and you can't win You can sing the blues all to yourself But while you're singing She's with someone else, poor boy While you're singing she's with someone else Poor boy, I'm sorry you're so blue But don't forget there's more than one of you Poor boy, I'm sorry, you're so sad Time will heal the pain won't be so bad, poor boy Time will heal the pain won't be so bad Let's forget it, poor boy and let's ride alright Bad luck can be good luck in disguise Someday new love may come to call Poor boy, we'll be rich men after all, poor boy
