Specialty house collection tours take a more personal approach, allowing you more time to enjoy the space, relax on certain furniture and even dine within the house, Additionally the daily house collection tours also educate you on the history of Polymath Park and Wright's principles behind the architecture. Every tour goes above and beyond to ensure our guests enjoy a noteworthy experience. We enjoyed our tour and loved the great service and special treatment we were given at this site. Everyone was very friendly and we would like to the Polymath team for the special permission to film the location! They rarely give this permission and we appreciated the time and effort of the staff!

History of Polymath Park & The Homes
's-The Balter and Blum families from Pittsburgh, both entrepreneurs, retained Peter Berndston to design two summer houses for them in the mountains in the early 60’s. They purchased 130 acres of farm land in Westmoreland County, with views of the Chestnut Ridge Mountain and untouched forest. Peter had a vision to create a Usonian style community development plan with shared common areas and 5 acre lots for each homeowner. He presented this idea which he named, “TreeTops and Mountain Circles” to Mr. Balter and Mr. Blum, they chose to keep their co-owned land private. The Balter house was built in 1963 and the Blum house in 1965. The houses both have different settings although there are several similarities. The use of the stone harvested from the property for the fireplaces. The “Cherokee Red” dyed concrete used for the floors, large windows, compress and release of space and galley style kitchens.
-Mr. Papinchak, founder, a visionary and entrepreneur, with his wife Heather purchased a modern style house in the mountains as a retreat. The house is now known as TREETOPS restaurant. They lived in the home from 2000-2008 when they decided to repurpose their house to serve as an on-site restaurant for their overnight guests.
-They had the opportunity to purchase the Balter and Blum houses and the 130 acres, known as Polymath Park. The sole purpose was to preserve the Peter Berndston designed homes and the land from potential development.
_ Polymath Park became involved with the relocation of Frank Lloyd Wright's Duncan house, originally located in Lisle, IL. The house was designed for Donald and Elizabeth Duncan as a full time residence.
_ Polymath Park consisting of the Duncan, Balter and Blum houses opened for overnight lodging and tours. Tours educate the visitors and guests on Mr. Wright's concept of the Usonian Houses and the influence Mr. Wright had on his apprentice, Peter Berndston regarding the Usonian designs. The example of Mr. Wright and his apprentice rarely exist on any other public property for visitors to embrace and experience experientially.
- Polymath Park was approved by the FLW Building Conservancy and McKinney(Lindholm) family for the relocation and preservation of Frank Lloyd Wright's Lindholm "Mäntylä" house, originally built in Cloquet, MN. The addition of this house will further our dedication and persistence to continue Mr Wright's legacy for future generations.
- Polymath Park breaks ground for the addition of the Mäntylä House....
- Wright's Mäntylä house, designed for the Lindholm family Grand Opening!
