The Jagiellonian dynasty was a royal dynasty, founded by Jogaila, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, who in 1386 was baptized as Władysław, married Queen (strictly King)Jadwiga of Poland, and was crowned King of Poland as Władysław II Jagiełło. The dynasty reigned in several Central European countries between the 14th and 16th centuries. Members of the dynasty were Kings of Poland (1386–1572), Grand Dukes of Lithuania (1377–1392 and 1440–1572), Kings of Hungary (1440–1444 and 1490–1526), and Kings of Bohemia (1471–1526).
The personal union between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (converted in 1569 with the Treaty of Lublin into the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth) is the reason for the common appellation "Poland–Lithuania" in discussions about the area from the Late Middle Ages onward. One Jagiellonian briefly ruled both Poland and Hungary (1440–44), and two others ruled both Bohemia and Hungary (1490–1526) and then continued in the distaff line as a branch of the House of Habsburg.
Poland is a historical novel written by James A. Michener and published in 1983 detailing the times and tribulations of three Polish families (the Lubonski family, the Bukowski family, and the Buk family) across eight centuries, ending in the then-present day (1981).
Overview
Michener was hired by a television company to travel to a foreign country to shoot a documentary. He was offered support to go anywhere in the world and Michener decided to make the trip to Poland. Following this, Michener made several trips back to Poland and conducted extensive study of Poland's history and culture. He began writing the book in 1979 and it was published four years later.
Like Michener's other works, he includes an acknowledgments section at the beginning of the book; however due to the political turmoil in Poland at the time, Michener decided not to include the names of the people he traveled with for fear of persecutions against them. He writes: "Normally, as I have done in my other novels, I would list their names, their impressive occupations, their achievements in research and scholarship, but I cannot ascertain whether in the present climate this would hurt or help them."

We should Restore the Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth (Yes, Seriously)
The War in Ukraine is, among other things, a question of identity - is there such a thing as a 'pan-slavic nation?' Meanwhile, relations between Poland, the Baltic countries and Ukraine is at an all time high as they band together to meet the common danger.
The Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth was arguably the most successful political union of all time. At its height it captured Moscow, drove back the Golden Horde and stopped Ottoman expansion at the gates of Vienna.
While it seems absolutely crazy to contemplate, could the Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth be ressurected? Crispin puts forth a radical argument as to why it must be considered.

Anna instead spent a majority of her time in Warsaw. After her husband’s death, Anna had the chance to claim the throne for herself but did not even attempt at doing so – and instead promoted her nephew Sigismund III of the House of Vasa to the throne of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth.
How did this notable noble woman live her life, and what good did her reign bring to the lands of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth?
Bona Sforza was a member of the powerful House of Sforza which ruled over the Duchy of Milan since 1447. In the late 1510s she became the second wife of King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, Sigismund I the Old. Their marriage lasted for 30 years, until her husband’s death in 1548. Bona was heavily involved in the politics of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, implementing numerous economic and agricultural reforms to increase the state’s revenue – including the Volok Reform which established a strict three-field system for crop rotation, and along with the Third Statute of Lithuania fully established serfdom until the emancipation under Tsarist Russia in 1861. While reducing social mobility and drawing a fine line between peasants and the nobility, Bona’s reforms made her the richest land owner in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
So how did this all start, and how did this great, influential and powerful Queen of Poland lead her life, until its brutal end in 1557 – with King of Spain, Phillip the Second’s involvement in the matter.
