Modern Pirates | Menace On Africa Coast
They assail drilling platforms with high-speed boats, seizing foreign nationals for future ransom negotiations. In 2015, a total of 73 such attacks occurred, leading to the abduction of 62 individuals. They represent the contemporary era of piracy, redefining kidnapping as a profitable enterprise, and viewing themselves as modern-day Robin Hood figures. Their primary targets are oil companies, which they accuse of exploiting the nation's natural resources without reciprocation. In this documentary, we followed soldiers, sailors, and pirates over several months, joining them on their raids to unveil their operational methods.

Obviously IL stints, be them short and long, impacted some decisions here, but the Pirates did some good things and some that Ethan hesitates to say are good ideas, but he breaks down the entire Opening Day roster on today's episode of Locked On Pirates.

We are all fascinated by the pirates after watching Pirates of Caribbean, but guess what… in real-life pirates come on motor boats rather than black pearls like jack sparrow. So stick around till the end if you want to see what real pirate attacks look like.
Number 10:
Navy helicopter counters somali attack
As soon as the security of a cruise ship found out about an oncoming pirate attack, they prepared to retaliate and launched a counter attack to better defend the positions. They used a M60C Machine gun and rained the bullets down on the pirates. Not on them literally, near them to give warning but that had no effect on them so they shot another round of bullets, this time a little closer but to no use. Meanwhile the army boats rounded near the boat of those pirates and they were surrounded by the security forces.
The pirates had to surrender before the navy and thus the attack came to an end.
Number 9:
Close encounter with pirates
According to the sources of this video, a few warning shots were fired by the security of the ship when they saw an approaching vessel but the pirates retaliated by shooting back. What next?? It was a heavy cross fire between the two ships.. No offence but the pirates really messed with the wrong ship this time…
The video showed some pirates sitting on a vessel approaching this rather large ship in the Indian ocean. They were confronted by the guards of the ship defensively and then the firing began. Bullets were fired from both sides but eventually the guards won this small battle and forced the pirates to retreat back in the open sea. By the way, Somali pirates often cause problems for the ships crossing the Indian ocean so they really deserved what they got..
Number 8
Somali pirates mess with the navy
Sometimes, just sometimes … We see Somali pirates getting themselves whisked by the army..and this is one such entry..
Watch, how incredibly these pirates parked near a huge ship and climbed all the way up..
First pirate and then after him the second pirate and so on. The security over the ship learned of their invasion and immediately sealed all doors and retreated to the steering room where they devised a plan to catch all the invaders. After devising a plan, they captured all of them...
Then we see all the pirates lying facedown on the floor, armless and hands tied down..
Their ship was also gunned down by the devastating close defense guns of the army.. It's called tit for tat..
Number 7
Pirates retaliated with bullets
This video was recorded through a mobile phone when a ship came under the attack of pirates. One of the members started capturing while the others were busy retaliating to the Somali pirates.
Pirates have no other intention but to hijack the ship and then take anything and everything valuable they get their hands on. The same could have happened here but the guards on the ship are seen to be firing bullets at the pirates to not let them get on the ship. In the video a crew member of the ship can also be seen calling someone and discussing the situation that they are facing. The Gulf of Aden is a nightmare for ships as they are attacked by pirates every now and then. The pirates have formed different groups to attack the ships.
Number 6
Pirates mess with Navy war ship
There are times when pirates have messed up too bad, just like in this clip.
Attacking on oil ships seems quite okay but attacking on war ships.
Well, sir…
Do you know who you are trying to attack?
IT'S THE NAVY WAR SHIP…
In this clip the pirates must have thought that they would easily get on the ship but the guards on the ship were not any normal guards and the pirates ended up in jail.
Number 5
Pirates attack motor tanker ship
A video that went viral on the internet and stunned the whole world showed a motor tanker ship maneuvering fastly to save itself from the attack of pirates who were trying to get onboard and hijack the ship. The small boat attacked the tanker vessel on the port side and was using a ladder to get onboard. The captain tried to maneuver the ship to keep the pirates away. In the video the captain of the ship can be heard calling the higher authorities in distress.
The first attempt of the pirates failed but they tried to attack again.
On the second attempt the pirates succeeded in attaching the ladder with the ship and getting onboard.
The video clearly shows the pirates getting on the ship. Later on pictures showed how the boat was internally destroyed by the pirates. There were bullet holes everywhere and the equipment and luggage was scattered everywhere. They stole what they could and destroyed what they couldn't take.

Thank you Venus, TheStellarJay, and Leah for your advice!
The concept of the pirate life is one that has fascinated children and adults alike for generations. It's the idea of pure unadulterated freedom, living free from the shackles of responsibility, regulation, and reality. On a lone vessel dancing along the waves of a vast ocean, the world is truly your oyster, and the possibilities are endless! This swashbuckling fantasy has been fueled time and time again by classics like Pirates of the Caribbean in the early 2000s, Treasure Island in the late 1800s, and A General History of the Pyrates in the early 1700s. So considering how impactful the pirate genre has been on the greater populace, it might come as a shock to learn that our understanding of real pirate history is relatively meager. That last listed classic, A General History of the Pyrates by Captain Charles Johnson, remains one of our most primary sources for pirate history during the Golden Age, a novel which we know to have exaggerated and stretched the truth for sensational effect. While unfortunate, it does make sense that accurate recordings of the true history of piracy are scarce given the criminal and elusive nature of pirates themselves. One isn't really an efficient criminal by making their personal information as known as possible. Combine that with the fact that most pirates came from poverty and low social status, and the fact that many primary court documents have been lost to time, it makes sense that this history can be hard to accurately map and result in much speculation. In this video, much speculation must be made to connect the dots we have about Stede Bonnet's life for example. Naturally, this can lead to inaccurate assumptions, so with that in mind I tried my best to choose language carefully when telling this story. Take note of the numerous sentences initiated with, "It's believed" for some insight into when speculations are made.
The illusiveness of pirate history feeds into the fantasy. After all, these were criminals, and if we could go back in time and ask them, we'd find many of them wouldn't choose this way of life if given the choice. The story of piracy is the story of class struggle, with rare exceptions like Bonnet aside, the lowest rungs of society were the ones who populated the pirate ranks. Poor sailors who lost their livelihood, impressment victims seeking freedom, privateers losing their state-backed support, and those with nowhere to turn but the sea were the ones who became pirates. It's a position born out of struggle and poverty, the same struggle that can be seen with the Somali pirates in the modern day. In essence, they are no different than the glorified pirates of the Caribbean: disadvantaged victims of society merely doing what they can to survive.

When we think of pirates, we often picture those who active were in the Caribbean during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Flamboyantly dressed, armed with cutlasses and pistols, readily seeking out new treasures from aboard their sailing ships with the Jolly Roger flying from the top mast. Modern media depictions have certainly reinforced this stereotype but as we shall explore in this video, the historical truth is some what obscured by myth and fantasy. This is the history of the real pirates of the Caribbean
In this episode, we examine the beginnings and causes of piracy in the Caribbean, starting with the Spanish empire conquering the americas, whose plentiful treasures would prove tempting and easy targets for the passing English and French privateers of the 16th century.
It was not until the mid 1600's, that piracy really became established in the Caribbean. The Buccaneers operating out of Tortuga and Port Royal, with names such as Henry Morgan, Bartholomew Sharp and Henry Every, would plunder the settlements of the Spanish Main and capture their treasure ships making the return journey to Europe.
Later, in the 18th century, during what became known as the Golden Age of Piracy, the likes of Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Calico Jack, Stede Bonnet, Sam Bellamy, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, who were all part of the notorious Flying Gang operating out of Nassau's Republic of Pirates, began to establish a name for themselves which history would remember them by to this day.

Obviously IL stints, be them short and long, impacted some decisions here, but the Pirates did some good things and some that Ethan hesitates to say are good ideas, but he breaks down the entire Opening Day roster on today's episode of Locked On Pirates.
