T. Bag and the Rings of Olympus S7E9 (1991) - FULL EPISODE
Torture. (That's the name of the episode, not a review.) Polly finds herself in Blackadder the Second on the quest for the next gold ring, and has to deal with dastardly villains wielding gunpowder, axes, feather dusters, and a potato in order to try to persuade Queen Elizabeth to hand it over. This episode was first broadcast on Monday, 4th March, 1991.
This is a very enjoyable one, even if things get quite dark when it becomes clear just how far some people are willing to go to achieve their aims. And, for a heroine, Polly's remarkably slow on the uptake with regard to the regicidal ("reginacidal"?) plot unfolding before her very eyes. Still, she redeems herself to cleverly thwart it. I love the vaguely surreal end to the phone conversation around four minute in ("You take hold of the ...

Shackleton and the Endurance - Audio Installation by Owlstation
For the Drawn Chorus' exploration themed exhibition 'There and Back Again', I created four illustrations and an audio installation that explored key points of Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1914 Endurance expedition. This video features the full audio installation set to the artwork I created in preparation for the show. Please listen with headphones for the best experience.
The audio extracts are taken from 'South', Shackleton's personal account of the perilous journey and are read by actor Pip Donaghy. The atmospheric soundscapes were created by Composer Mikey Parsons. The audio and illustrations primarily focus on the loss of the Endurance and the ensuing march to find safety before Shackleton left the main party. I highly recommend reading 'South' to learn the full, incredible story.

Behind the scenes of Ibsen's Ghosts
This autumn Rose Theatre Kingston and English Touring Theatre are producing Stephen Unwin's new translation of Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts.
We spoke to Stephen Unwin who translated and directed Ghosts, and Pip Donaghy (Engstrand), Patrick Drury (Pastor Manders) and Kelly Hunter (Mrs Alving) from the cast.
This production of Ibsen's masterpiece is inspired by the artist Edvard Munch's extraordinary stage designs for the play previously only seen once, in Berlin in 1906.
Ghosts is co-produced with English Touring Theatre, which Stephen Unwin founded 20 years ago. It will also mark his swan song as Artistic Director of the Rose.
Stephen Unwin has directed six productions of Ibsen, to tremendous acclaim, including an award-winning Hedda Gabler seen at the Donmar in 1998, and The Lady from the Se...

I love the vaguely surreal end to the phone conversation around four minute in ("You take hold of the fat end and you hit it with a stick" - what?), and T-Shirt's blunder with the gift gave me a good giggle.
Anyway, Sarah Berger plays Elizabeth I in this, and despite the obvious comparisons to Miranda Richardson, does very well indeed. Sarah's most recent credits include things like Casualty and Doctors, but she's had regular parts in her career, and has done proper acting in the likes of An Inspector Calls and The Crucible. The role of Sir Walter Pistol (great name), meanwhile, is filled by Pip Donaghy, who seems to have done a fair bit of Dickens in his time, while also playing the eponymous hero in the 1984 version of The Invisible Man (though I don't remember seeing him in that). Pip, too, I gather is still going strong.
Look out for some nice Children's ITV continuity at the beginning and end featuring Jeanne Downs and Scally, with the latter introducing next week's episode by accident.
Huge thanks to Lee for providing this recording.

Stephen Unwin has directed six productions of Ibsen, to tremendous acclaim, including an award-winning Hedda Gabler seen at the Donmar in 1998, and The Lady from the Sea with Joely Richardson at the Rose in Spring 2012.
Rose Theatre Kingston is delighted to be co-producing Ghosts with English Touring Theatre, who will be taking the production on a UK Tour after the run in Kingston.
