Pierre Brasseur (22 December 1905 – 16 August 1972), born Pierre-Albert Espinasse, was a French actor.
He was the son of actors Georges Espinasse and Germaine Brasseur, while the latter was married to Albert Brasseur. His grandfather, Jules Brasseur, was an actor as well. The family tradition of using the name Brasseur was continued by his son Claude and his grandson Alexandre.
Renowned for playing outsized characters, Brasseur is probably best known in the anglophone world for his (semi-fictionalised) portrayal of the actor Frédérick Lemaître in Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise, 1945) and as Docteur Génessier (more subdued) in the horror film Eyes Without a Face (Les Yeux sans visage, 1960) co-starring Alida Valli. On 30 May 1927, he performed the spoken role of the Narrator in the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's opera-oratorioOedipus Rex.
Pierre Brasseur (21 June 1832 – 7 February 1918) was a Luxembourgian entrepreneur, businessman, and mining magnate, being involved in founding a number of industrial concerns in southern Luxembourg. Amongst them was one of the steel companies that would become ARBED, and, after many mergers and consolidations, Arcelor Mittal.
Pierre was a member of the Brasseur family, born the eleventh son of Alexis Brasseur in Esch-sur-Alzette. Along with a number of other associates, Pierre founded the Society for the Extraction of Minerals of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (French:Société pour l'Exploitation des Minières du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg). in 1861. The following year, he was awarded a concession to mine an area of 77 hectares (0.30sqmi) near Rumelange, in Luxembourg's Red Lands. He was appointed notary in Esch-sur-Alzette in 1864.
His success allowed him to establish in 1870 the Society of Blast Furnaces of Luxembourg (French:S.A. des Hauts Fourneaux Luxembourgeois), along with twenty-six other subscribers. He was one of the members of the first administrative council of the company, which directed the company until 1874. The company opened two blast furnaces in Esch in 1872 and 1873. In about 1874, he left the administrative council. However, his name would forever be attached to the furnaces in Esch. After mergers with German operations, and expansion in Esch-sur-Alzette and into Alsace-Lorraine, the company would become the second-largest industrial business in the Zollverein (after Krupp). In 1920, the firm would become ARBED, which would form a major part of Arcelor Mittal, the world's largest steel-maker.
Luxembourgi/ˈlʌksəmbɜːrɡ/ (Luxembourgish:Lëtzebuerg; German:Luxemburg), officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is a landlocked country in western Europe. It is bordered by Belgium to the west and north, Germany to the east, and France to the south. It comprises two principal regions: the Oesling in the north as part of the Ardennesmassif, and the Gutland ("good country") in the south. With an area of 2,586 square kilometres (998sqmi), it is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe (about the same size as the English county of Northamptonshire). Luxembourg had a population of 524,853 in October 2012, ranking it the 8th least-populous country in Europe.
Luxembourg (Dutch: Luxemburg; same in German but with a slightly different pronunciation; Luxembourgish:Lëtzebuerg; Walloon: Lussimbork) is the southernmost province of Wallonia and of Belgium. It borders on (clockwise from the east) the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, France, and the Belgian provinces of Namur and Liège. Its capital is Arlon (Luxembourgish: Arel, Dutch: Aarlen), in the south-east of the province.
It has an area of 4,443km², making it the largest Belgian province. At around a quarter of a million residents, it is also the province with the smallest population, making it the most sparsely populated province in an otherwise very densely populated country.
It is significantly larger (70%) and much less populous than the neighbouring Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
About eighty percent of the province is part of the densely wooded Ardennes region.
The southernmost region of the province is called Gaume or Belgian Lorraine (main city: Virton).
The Arelerland or Arlon region (in red on the following map of the province) alongside the border with the neighbouring Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg has the particularity that many residents speak Luxembourgish instead of the Walloon (French) dialect(s) spoken elsewhere in the province.

Why do people purposefully steer clear of Luxembourg?
The country ranks pretty high when talking about the standards of living. The quality of life is great, and a lot of the locals live there comfortably.
But, surprisingly, there are several reasons why many people simply don’t move to Luxembourg, and today, we’ll look at ten reasons why this happens.

With an area of 2,586 square kilometers (998 sq mi), Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in all of Europe. But in spite of its size, this country has deep historical roots and offers a lot of diversity. From the rocky gorges in the east to the river valleys in the north and medieval towns with castles perched in between. We’ll now dive into our top 7 interesting places to visit and things to do in the country of Luxembourg.

Luxembourg is seen as an oasis of luxury in Europe, but poverty and homelessness are on the rise. While the government has done little to respond here, NGOs are doing what they can to combat the most extreme levels of hardship.
Luxembourg is a financial hub and home to the European Court of Justice as well as countless shell companies. And with the highest per capita GDP anywhere in the world, the country is also known for its wealth and luxury. But there's a different, lesser-known side to the grand duchy. Alexandra Oxacelay is with "Stëmm vun der Strooss,” an NGO dedicated to taking care of people who are homeless and socially vulnerable. The soup kitchen run by this charity is seeing a growing number of people searching for shelter, a hot meal and support. One of them is Stephan from Hungary, who's spent the last seven years living in a tent - even during winter. Alexandra has also noticed an increase in the number of "working poor,” or people struggling to make ends meet despite having a job. Serge Kappel suffers from chronic inflammatory back pain and has been unable to find an apartment he can afford due to a dramatic increase in rental costs. Researcher Antoine Paccoud attributes this to rampant speculation on the real estate market and insufficient funding for social housing. Alexandra can at least provide affordable housing for some people in need. But that help is limited when compared to the growing number of Luxembourgers and refugees who have become dependent on the NGO while living in the shadows of high-profile office buildings.
Poverty in Luxembourg has become an increasingly divisive issue. Yannick Wirtz, who is out of work, feels let down by the government and says there should be greater restrictions on immigration. Whereas NGO director Alexandra Oxacelay refuses to discriminate when it comes to the disadvantaged - insisting that in the wealthiest country in Europe, everyone deserves to be helped.

In Luxembourg, they speak German, French, and Luxembourgish – luckily, we're up for it language-wise 🤓.

#primecoin #xpm $XPM
