DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf – to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

VALIS by Philip K. Dick [AudioBook]
Valis (stylized as VALIS) is a philosophical science-fiction novel written by Philip K. Dick and published in 1981. The title is an acronym for Vast Active Living Intelligence System, Dick's gnostic vision of one aspect of God.
The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick
Valis has been described as one node of an artificial satellite network originating from the star Sirius in the Canis Major constellation. According to Dick, the Earth satellite used "pink laser beams" to transfer information and project holograms on Earth and to facilitate communication between an extraterrestrial species and humanity. Dick claimed that valis used "disinhibiting stimuli" to communicate, using symbols to trigger recollection of intrinsic knowledge through the loss of amnesia, achieving gnosis.
Drawing directly from Platonism and Gnosticism, Dick wrote in his Exegesis: "We appear to be memory coils (DNA carriers capable of experience) in a computer-like thinking system which, although we have correctly recorded and stored thousands of years of experiential information, and each of us possesses somewhat different deposits from all the other life forms, there is a malfunction—a failure—of memory retrieval."
At one point, Dick claimed to be in a state of enthousiasmos with valis, where he was informed his infant son was in danger of perishing from an unnamed malady. Routine checkups on the child had shown no trouble or illness; however, Dick insisted that thorough tests be run to ensure his son's health. The doctor eventually complied, despite the fact that there were no apparent symptoms. During the examination doctors discovered an inguinal hernia, which would have killed the child if an operation was not quickly performed. His son survived thanks to the operation, which Dick attributed to the "intervention" of valis.
Another event was an episode of supposed xenoglossia. Supposedly, Dick's wife transcribed the sounds she heard him speak, and discovered that he was speaking Koine Greek—the common Greek dialect during the Hellenistic years (3rd century BC–4th century AD) and direct "father" of today's modern Greek language—which he had never studied. As Dick was to later discover, Koine Greek was originally used to write the New Testament and the Septuagint. However, this was not the first time Dick had claimed xenoglossia: a decade earlier, Dick insisted he was able to think, speak, and read fluent Koine Greek under the influence of Sandoz LSD-25.
The UK edition of VALIS also included "Cosmology and Cosmogony", a chapbook containing selections from Dick's Exegesis.
Philosophical and cultural references
Theology and philosophy, especially metaphysical philosophy, play an important role in VALIS, presenting not just Dick's (and/or Horselover Fat's) own views on these subjects but also his interpretation of numerous religions and philosophies of the past. The most prominent religious references are to Valentinian Gnosticism, the Rose Cross Brotherhood, Zoroastrianism and Buddhism, as well as Biblical writings including the Book of Daniel and the New Testament epistles. Many ancient Greek philosophers are discussed, including several Pre-Socratics (Pythagoras, Xenophanes, Heraclitus, Empedocles, and Parmenides) as well as Plato and
Aristotle. More recent thinkers that are mentioned include the philosophers Pascal and Schopenhauer, the Christian mystic Jakob Böhme, the alchemist Paracelsus, Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, the Romanian historian of religion Mircea Eliade, and the author and psychologist Robert Anton Wilson. In Wilson's autobiographical Cosmic Trigger (released shortly before Dick commenced work on VALIS), Wilson describes similar musings concerning the 'Sirius Connection', contemplating the idea that alien entities are sending out waves of information that we can tune in on. VALIS specifically mentions the Dogon people, saying that they had encountered three-eyed people who had descended from Ikhnaton. References are also made to numerous deities, including Yurugu (who it associates with Yin) and Nommo (who it associates with Yang); it also suggests a blind, mad creator deity called Yaldaboath or Samael. The novel frequently references the 1945 discovery at Nag Hammadi.
The action of VALIS is set firmly in the American popular culture of its time, with references to the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, and Linda Ronstadt, as well as the fictional rock musicians Eric Lampton and Brent Mini. However, the novel also contains a number of high culture references such as the poets Vaughan, Wordsworth, and Goethe, and the classical composers Handel and Wagner. In particular, the novel contains several extended discussions about Wagner's metaphysical opera Parsifal.

"We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" is a short story by Philip K. Dick first published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in April 1966. It features a melding of reality, false memory, and real memory. The story has been the subject of two film adaptations, 1990's Total Recall, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the story's protagonist; and 2012's same-titled with Colin Farrell in a similar role.
Douglas Quail, a simple and ordinary clerk, wishes to visit Mars. Unable to afford it, he visits a company, REKAL (pronounced "recall") Incorporated, which promises to implant an "extra-factual memory" of a trip to Mars as a secret agent. The procedure involves administration of narkidrine, a sedative and truth drug, which causes Quail to remember and reveal that he actually did go to Mars as a secret government agent. His conscious memories of the trip have been erased, but his initial desire to sign up for the trip cannot be removed. The REKAL staff quickly get Quail out of their office without implanting anything, but his real memories are now returning slowly. At home, he finds physical evidence to support his trip but also remembers that he attended REKAL. This conflict causes him to angrily return for a refund, which he is given.
When two police officers show up to kill him, Quail discovers that his former handlers have been reading his thoughts by means of an implanted device that was used to communicate with him during his mission on Mars. As more memories return, he realizes that he was an assassin for the government, but also remembers how to disarm the cops and escape. Since he can be tracked by the device, this cannot last for long. He thus makes a deal for the memory of his Mars mission to be replaced by a false memory of his deepest fantasy as analyzed by psychiatrists, in order to prevent any further desires to visit REKAL. He is sent back to REKAL for the procedure, but under the narkidrine, he reveals that the memories they are about to implant are real -- that aliens visited him when he was nine and were so touched by his kindness and compassion that they decided to postpone their invasion until his death. By simply remaining alive, he is the most important person on Earth, and the government is now unable to kill him.

Galactic Pot-Healer is a science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick, first published in 1969. The novel deals with a number of philosophical and political issues such as repressive societies, fatalism, and the search for meaning in life.
The novel takes place in a dismal future America, the "Communal North American Citizen's Republic." The United States government has become extremely intrusive and repressive, monitoring the actions, speech and even thoughts of its citizens.
The protagonist, Joe Fernwright, is a pot-healer, one who can perfectly restore pottery to brand new condition. Joe finds himself constantly depressed and idle at the opening of the novel. He is unemployed and on a war veteran's social security benefit, given that ceramic pottery has been replaced by plastics, and his profession is not in great demand. He longs for purpose and meaning in life. His one entertainment is to call various friends on the worldwide telephone network and swap puzzles. These puzzles are based on imperfect translations of sayings and book titles obtained by using language translation computers available to anyone. The object of the game is to guess the original from the translation.
Joe finds meaning when he is summoned to "Plowman's Planet"/Sirius Five by a mysterious highly evolved alien, Glimmung, with seemingly godlike powers. Along with other similarly talented but depressed and alienated people and creatures from all over the galaxy they are employed by Glimmung, in a grand endeavor to raise an ancient sunken cathedral from the ocean floor.
Glimmung is also in a struggle with the Kalends, a species gifted with precognition who are constantly writing a book that supposedly foretells the future, one which inevitably is proven right. Glimmung is determined to continue with his struggle, even when the book predicts certain failure.
At the conclusion of the book, Fernwright and his companions are offered the opportunity to join a gestalt or hive mind that also encompasses Glimmung. Fernwright and an unnamed octopoid companion alone refuse the offer. Fernwright is then given various options, such as going back to earth, going with the octopoid to its planet, going to Mali's planet ( a young humanoid female he had become romantically involved with and who chose to become a part of the collective conscious ) or stay back on Sirius Five. The octopoid also suggests to him that he should start creating pots with the tools Glimmung has given him instead of just healing them. The story ends by saying the first pot he created was 'awful.'

SECOND VARIETY by Philip K. Dick - FULL AudioBook | GreatestAudioBooks | Science Fiction / Fantasy - Early victories by the USSR in a global nuclear war cause the United Nations government to retreat to the moon leaving behind troops and fierce autonomous robots called “Claws”, which reproduce and redesign themselves in unmanned subterranean factories. After six bloody years of conflict the Soviets call for an urgent conference and UN Major Joseph Hendricks sets out to meet them. Along the way he will discover what the Claws have been up to, and it isn’t good… - Second Variety was first published in the May 1953 edition of Space Science Fiction Magazine. (Summary by Gregg Margarite)
About the Author, Philip K. Dick:
Philip Kindred Dick (December 16, 1928 – March 2, 1982) was an American writer notable for publishing works of science fiction. Dick explored philosophical, social, and political themes in novels with plots dominated by monopolistic corporations, authoritarian governments, alternate universes, and altered states of consciousness. His work reflected his personal interest in metaphysics and theology, and often drew upon his life experiences in addressing the nature of reality, identity, drug abuse, schizophrenia, and transcendental experiences.
Born in Illinois before moving to California, Dick began publishing science fiction stories in the 1950s, initially finding little commercial success. His 1962 alternate history novel The Man in the High Castle earned Dick early acclaim, including a Hugo Award for Best Novel. He followed with science fiction novels such as Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968) and Ubik (1969). His 1974 novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for best novel. Following a series of religious experiences in February–March 1974, Dick's work engaged more explicitly with issues of theology, philosophy, and the nature of reality, as in such novels as A Scanner Darkly (1977) and VALIS (1981). A collection of his non-fiction writing on these themes was published posthumously as The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick (2011). He died in 1982 of a stroke, aged 53.
In addition to 44 published novels, Dick wrote approximately 121 short stories, most of which appeared in science fiction magazines during his lifetime. A variety of popular films based on his works have been produced, including Blade Runner (1982), Total Recall (1990), Minority Report (2002), A Scanner Darkly (2006), Paycheck (2003), Next (2007), and The Adjustment Bureau (2011). In 2005, Time magazine named Ubik one of the hundred greatest English-language novels published since 1923.[6] In 2007, Dick became the first science fiction writer to be included in The Library of America series.

Flow My Tears The Policeman Said Summary Philip K. Dick
Flow My Tears The Policeman Said Summary Philip K. Dick, I recently read this book, I'm a huge fan of PKD so I've read a few of his books. This was an enjoyable story about a police state and a TV star who loses his identity. PKD does a great job of asking us to think about reality, and how we can all live in different worlds.

Flow My Tears the Policeman Said
I found a huge anthology of sheet music in an Oxfam shop, including John Dowland's "Flow My Tears" and some background music from an Inspector Morse episode. So I had a go at combining the two, as a homage to Philip K. Dick's novel Flow My Tears the Policeman Said. For added interest, I've inserted brief snippets from three other songs in the book (Waterloo Sunset, Don't Look Back in Anger and A Day in the Life).

Philip K Dick - Fascinating Rare Interview
This essential interview with Philip K. Dick, was conducted by Charles Platt and recorded in 1979 in Santa Ana, California. An interview sure to be immensely important for any true PKD scholars. This interview was recorded for Platt’s book "Dream Makers: The Uncommon People Who Write Science Fiction."
Various topics touched upon:
-PKD’s real acid trip (he tried it only one time).
-Platt: “Do you recognize the possibility that you were talking to yourself?” PKD: “Yes.”
-Quakers were about the only group in the world PKD didn’t have some sort of grievance against
-PKD read The World Of Null-A by A.E. van Vogt and found in it great inspiration for his ideas about the perception of reality and reality itself
-PKD perceived his high school geometry teacher as a mechanism
-PKD’s fiction can b...

Hello DickHeads. We've got a long one for you. Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said is not only a classic PKD novel often counted amongst his very best but, in his own words, was "the first really new thing I've done since EYE IN THE SKY." We hope you enjoy this deep dive that includes some of David's most intense writing and publication history to date. Plus: Betty Ballantine rejects. Non-vanilla sex causes rage. And your mom did what on mescaline?

I found a huge anthology of sheet music in an Oxfam shop, including John Dowland's "Flow My Tears" and some background music from an Inspector Morse episode. So I had a go at combining the two, as a homage to Philip K. Dick's novel Flow My Tears the Policeman Said. For added interest, I've inserted brief snippets from three other songs in the book (Waterloo Sunset, Don't Look Back in Anger and A Day in the Life).

-PKD’s fiction can be incomprehensible if you do not accept his premise (namely that “each of us lives in a unique world.”)
–Martian Time Slip.
-multiple personalities
-When PKD went to a psychotherapist he was told he was an alcoholic (despite his being a teetotaler)
-Why PKD writes about anti-heroes
-Paranoia
-“I am inevitably persuaded by every argument that is brought to bare”
-Private worlds
–The Three Stigmata Of Palmer Eldritch
–Time Out Of Joint
-Artificial memories / false memories
-The influence of drugs on PKD’s writing was only in the output (using amphetamines he was completing 60 finished pages per day)
–A Scanner Darkly
-The Curiosity of Cats
-Carl Jung and “the collective unconscious”
-“the god of this world is evil”
–Maze Of Death
–Ubik
–Eye In The Sky
-Something is terrible is wrong (when everyone cheers a burning man)
-Empathy for animals (human and rodent)
-The killing of a rat (haunted Dick)
-Buddha
–Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said
-lambs and sheep
–Valis (his then latest novel)
-Standing on the shoulders of giants
-Disorder (evil) order (benign)
-PKD claims to have been eccentric but not insane
-“It fired my agent, it fired my publisher” it being the spirit that was possessing him

My review of Phlip K Dick's 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. This novel was famously the basis for the movie Blade Runner that was itself inspirational for in the Cyperpunk movement. The novel is very different to the film and has a cult following of its own.

Chapter two is a break from Deckard, as we meet John Isidore. Isidore has been mentally and physically corrupted by the radioactive dust, and struggles to live a normal life.
This chapter is very exposition heavy and spends much of its time world building. Thank you again for listening! As always, we truly hope you enjoy!

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is a science fiction novel by American writer Philip K. Dick. First published in 1968, the book served as the primary basis for the 1982 film Blade Runner. The novel is set in a post-apocalyptic near future, where Earth and its populations have been damaged greatly by nuclear war during World War Terminus. Most types of animals are endangered or extinct due to extreme radiation poisoning from the war. To own an animal is a sign of status, but what is emphasized more is the empathic emotions humans experience towards an animal.
The main plot follows Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter who is faced with "retiring" six escaped Nexus-6 brain model androids, the latest and most advanced model, while a secondary plot follows John Isidore, a man of sub-normal intelligence who aids the fugitive androids. In connection with Deckard's mission, the novel explores the issue of what it is to be human. Unlike humans, the androids possess no empathic sense. In essence, Deckard probes the existence of defining qualities that separate humans from androids.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Filmed as: Blade Runner) by Philip K. Dick Audiobook Chapter One. With cast and corresponding animated imagery.
World War Terminus had left Earth devastated. Through its ruins, bounty hunter Rick Deckard stalked, in search of renegade replicants who were his prey. When he wasn't "retiring" them with his laser weapon, he dreamed of owning a live animal - the ultimate status symbol in a world all but bereft of animal life. Then Rick got his chance: the assignment to kill six Nexus-6 targets, for a huge reward. But in Deckard's world things were never that simple, and his assignment quickly turned into a nightmare kaleidoscope of subterfuge and deceit - and the threat of death for hunter rather than prey.
In chapter one we meet Rick, his wife Iran, and their neighbor Bill. Thank you again for listening! As always, we truly hope you enjoy!
This chapter is voiced by Matthew Silas Sedgwick and Makyla Meyer.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Filmed as: Blade Runner) by Philip K. Dick Audiobook Chapter Two. With cast and corresponding visual imagery.
This chapter is voiced entirely by Matthew Silas Sedgwick.

Philip K. Dick speech in Metz, France, 1977
If You Find This World Bad, You Should See Some of the Others (The "Metz Speech") .
Dick goes on to describe the visionary, mystical experiences he had in 1974 after dental surgery, which he chronicled in his extensive journal entries (published in abridged form as The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick) and in works like VALIS and The Divine Invasion. As a result of his visions, Dick came to believe that “some of my fictional works were in a literal sense true,” citing in particular The Man in the High Castle and Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said, a 1974 novel about the U.S. as a police state—both novels written, he says, “based on fragmentary, residual memories of such a horrid slave state world.” He claims to remember not past lives but a “different, very different, present life.”

What if we are living in a simulation, and the world as we know it is not real? To tackle this mind-bending idea, acclaimed filmmaker Rodney Ascher (ROOM 237, THE NIGHTMARE) uses a noted speech from Philip K. Leaving no stone unturned in exploring the unprovable, the film uses contemporary cultural touchstones like THE MATRIX, interviews with real people shrouded in digital avatars, and a wide array of voices, expert and amateur alike. A Closer Look At SIMULATION THEORY of PKD Philip K Dick Matrix Mandela Effect Quantum Retrocausality
Philip K. Dick is inarguably one of the most thought-provoking writers of all time, and what's more, MOST OF WHAT HE WROTE CAME TRUE. Here, we take a closer look at his now famous speech of 1977, in which he proclaims our world to be a Computer Simulation. In my humble opinion, this statement was his interpretation of what he was experiencing, and it isn't a bad guess. But it is my contingency that this "Dickian" claim is inaccurately received by us, the people living in the 21st century. However, that does not change the fact that Philip K. Dick gave us a profound message in that speech, and others, as well as his novels & short stories.... It is left to us to interpret what in fact that message was.

-Why PKD writes about anti-heroes
-Paranoia
-“I am inevitably persuaded by every argument that is brought to bare”
-Private worlds
–The Three Stigmata Of Palmer Eldritch

This is Philip K Dick's famous Metz speech given in Metz, France in 1977. Philip gave the speech with a French interpreter beside him for the audience, but for English speakers it can be distracting. I took care of that for you in addition to very subtly improving the video quality and doing modest touch-ups to the audio, making it clearer and reducing the humming without too heavy a hand. In the speech he explores some of his ideas of parallel realities (lateral realities/lateral dimensions), his experience in 1974 (2-3-74), and how they both relate to his novels. A very exciting way to get introduced to the enigmatic, fascinating Philip K. Dick!

If you've seen TEDGLOBAL speaker Jason Silva, Rich Doyle will blow you away. He's one of Jason's biggest inspirations, and this talk will take you out of your comfort zone and force you to THINK.
Professor Doyle is the Liberal Arts Research Professor at Penn State University, where he taught since 1994. Since reading the work of futurist Alvin Toffler at age 12, Doyle has been on a scholarly and personal quest to understand the effects of information technologies on the evolution of human culture. After completing a PhD at UC Berkeley and a post doctoral fellowship at MIT, he has received grants from the National Science Foundation and written a trilogy of scholarly books on the effects of information technologies on human evolution and the effects of language on consciousness. His latest, Darwin's Pharmacy: Sex, Plants & The Evolution of the Noosphere, focuses on the co-evolution of humans with psychedelic plants such as psilocybin, cannabis, and ayahuasca as humans explored the space of all possible states of consciousness with the same fervor as they explored the external world.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
